A day for ceremony -- and getting started

A banner hangs from the Plum Street entrance to City Hall for today's inaugural ceremonies.

Mayor-elect Mark Mallory's public schedule for the day mixes ceremony with work in the mayor's office:
  • 9 a.m. -- Mallory arrives at City Hall, gets settled into mayor's office.
  • 11 a.m. -- Swearing-in Ceremony, Council chambers.
  • 12:30 p.m. -- Working lunch with staff.
  • 2 p.m. -- Back to City Hall, working in mayor's office.
  • 4:45 p.m. -- Mallory and family leave City Hall via motorcade to Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal (may make unannounced stops).
  • 5:15 p.m. -- Motorcade arrives Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal.
  • 5:30 p.m. -- Mallory gives Inaugural Address, Union Terminal.
  • 6:15 p.m. -- Reception following speech.
  • 7:15 p.m. -- Mallory exits Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal.
The day is a little shorter and a little more flexible than the one opponent David Pepper had proposed for his first day.

There's no word on Pepper's revised schedule.

That is the laziest, most pathetic day for a Mayor that I've ever seen. How much is he paid, per day? How much did the "motorcade" cost?? He's not President, he's Mayor of a city that's needs WORK. How much was his staff paid for a day of pomp? Is he actually going to do any work? I think he's lost in a fog of pomposity. Good god. A motorcade. This is CINCINNATI!

Kudos to Mallory and his motorcade.

It's about time the queen city stepped it up a notch in the class department.

Okay. Fine.

I'm neither a Mallory critic nor a defender, so let me say this: Cincinnati knew exactly what it would get on David Pepper's first day. They voted for Mallory.

Having said that, if he ever rides in a motorcade again on a day that the president or the pope isn't in town, it's probably a little excessive.

You're complaining about a motorcade? What a ridiculous comment. Any individual citizen can get a police escort for a funeral motorcade, so why should the mayor be criticized for wanting to keep his party (and I'm guessing he's got a lot of people going to his own swearing-in ceremony and speech) together?

I'd also like to know how much this motorcade business cost. Is this something the taxpayers are going to have to eat? Er, never mind. I'm sure the SEIU-PAC picked up the tab for the round of celebratory partying. After all, this is the group of unionized folks that bought the election for Mallory.

I hope the Police Department sends out that bill today for the escort service.

This isn't class; this is pomposity at its finest. We had people out in the cold & hungry last night. We have people in this City wondering how they're going to pay the utility bills.

Welcome to CinOrleans.
