Mayor: Dohoney's Worth The Money

Mayor Mark Mallory this morning defended his proposal to give City Manager Milton Dohoney a 7% raise.

During Mallory's press conference about his budget recommendations, Channel 9 reporter Jenell Walton asked the mayor several times about the raise, which would mean $12,950 more onto Dohoney's current $185,000 paycheck. She said people might have questions about the raise, given that the city is talking about needing to cut its budget.

"I feel very strongly in paying people what they're worth," Mallory said.

If,as Mallory says, he believes in paying people what they are worth I assume he will donate his pay back to the city.

In a tight budget year the decision by Mallroy could not be more ill timed or ill advised.

MAYOR ZERO.

Stand up council.

This is the first time in a long time I have heard Mallory take a position on anything. Weird, bad choice Mark.

I hear Chip Gerhardt is working on an opponent for the Repubs.

This is the first time i have heard Mallory take a position on anything, except the creation of a task force for a grocery store.

Bad choice Mark.

You just gave ammo to Chippy Gerhardt's efforts to find someone to run against you! Word is the CBC is promising Chippy big bucks.

Anybody see the game?

Dohoney proposes a tight budget. Mallory adds back some politically attractive things.

Mallory thanks Dohoney for the softball by giving him a fat raise.

I don't know who Chippy Gerhardt is, but i hope he finds a good candidate. Mallory is a joke.

It is not about paying people what they are worth. If you have a tight budget, you must be judicious. If you are going to give the city manager this kind of raise, then every employee who does a great job should get a 7 percent raise. Doubtful that will happen.

Hell, county employees will get a zero percent raise this year. Does that mean they are all unworthy of an increase?

Mallory brought Dohoney in to be a hatchet man. He is doing a good job
at chopping the budget, retirement system, city employees. So with all these cuts I guess there some extra money around to give Dohoney
7%.
You should also add that council approved the raise.

Mallory is a joke. Chip, please help us. I am tired of Mallory cutting all of the ribbons and taking credit for things he didnt do. As a matter of fact, what has he done in two years? can some one give me an answer?

Mallory himself gets paid double the salary of a council member. Can someone please tell me what he does to deserve this grotesque amount?

I would never advocate for a 7% raise for an employee who rates only "good" and "satisfactory". A raise of that magnitude is for someone who consistently exceeds expectations, not just someone who is "satisfactory". Please get his evaluation posted, I would love to read Mark Mallory's fine prose.

Oh please, somebody tell me we're going to vote tomorrow for a new mayor who's going to do some work!! We've got to get rid of this do-nothing tag team of Mallory & Dohoney. (Gads, Mallory & Dohoney. Sounds like a baggy-pants comedy routine out of an old, smoky burlesque bump & grind theater!)

We've got to vote out these clown-hucksters! Please help, somebody!!!!

Typical government ... when a budget deficient is occurring, the top management expects a raise. This is utterly ridiculous! I am not saying Mr. Mahoney is/is not doing HIS job, he SHOULD NOT - along with Council Members, the Mayor, etc... - being getting any type of raise, bonus, or increase. Lord have Mercy, it would take me one-year salary to get his 7% increase. Plus, do the math, it would take a lot of hard working years for me to even add up to his current salary. Please consider us taxpayers who are trying to pay their bills. This is a selfish undertaking, if he accepts such a raise. We will see if he practices what he speeches about cutting back. He is earning a darn fine salary as is ... and ... it should be frozen until our taxes decrease and the budget is in better shape.

I agree that no taxpayer dollars should be funding the Freedom Center. We vote on this expediture and it was to be privately funded by donations and/or fundraisers.

I am also tired of paying out of my pocket for City-runned social services. This is double-taxation. The County already has problems!

REDUCE OUR TAXES!!!!!! And, sorry Mr. Mahoney, this is not the right time for you to receive extra taxpayer money in your pants' pocket either. Nothing personal, but I am having a hard time paying my utilities and for basic needs at present. Wake-up and smell the coffee. You are on the wealthy side of the street.

The city manager runs a $400 million operation with over 6,000 employees. He would make three times what he is current making in the private sector. The boys on 4th street will get bonuses bigger than the city manager entire annual salary. The city should be grateful to have Milton.

The city is not grateful. The city is being conned by Mayor Zero and that empty suit Milton Dohoney.

To the private sector he goes then. Serve with adequate compensation or get out!
