Mallory's Press Briefings Are Back

After a few weeks off, Mayor Mark Mallory held one of his weekly Tuesday news briefings today. Here's some of what he said:

His new Grocery Store Task Force met Friday and will keep meeting to figure out how to attract a grocery store to downtown. On the task force: Holly Childs; and representatives of the Downtown Residents Council, his Young Professional Kitchen Cabinet, Downtown Cincinnati Inc. and the Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC). "We'll have a series of these meetings to develop a strategy." There's no timetable or location chosen yet. The group will find a store first, he said.

Monday night, he spoke to the 17 graduates of the first Citizens Government Academy, which City Manager Milton Dohoney set up to teach people how City Hall works.

He's meeting with all City Council members, talking with them about committee assigments and possible reorganization of committees. "There've been no decisions made at this point," he said, but he expects to decide by this time next week. The official swearing-in, although the same nine are returning, is Dec. 1.

Speaking of that swearing-in, if you go, take some canned food for the Freestore/Foodbank. Mallory says it'll be a requirement to get in. Only the balcony of council chambers will be open to the public.

The Mallory family will do its holiday volunteering Dec. 8, from 1-3 p.m., at the Freestore. They'll be sorting food and bagging it into packages.

When is this Mayor's next international excursion scheduled to take place? What is the destination & what ecomonic benefit will it produce for this City?

Hopefully, in 2008, Mallory will discover the true definition of work & put it into practice. He's be in office almost 2 years now & I've yet to see any measurable results.

Who cares? He didn't care enough about this community to take a position on the safety plan - what he does matters nil

COMPLETELY off-topic, but today's news article about Tyrone Yates appointing Steve Reece to the NAACP convention panel compels me to ask:

When, oh when, will The Enquirer EVER investigate the shell game the Reeces have with their "bidnesses"?

There is NO SUCH business as the "Reece & Reece Group", certainly no corporation for Steve Reece to be President and (Board) Chairman of, in the State of Ohio!

The ONLY company the Reeces have registered is their non-profit Operation Step-Up.

No Integrity Hall, no Reece & Reece Business Suites, no Communiplex (and its various other names reported throughout the years), No Reece & Reece Apartments, nada!

For YEARS the Reeces have claimed to own and run over half a dozen businesses, but the ONLY one recognized as "active" by the State of Ohio has been the non-profit.

Is it just possible that revenues collected by these other "bidnesses" are funneled through the non-profit to minimize (avoid) tax liabilities?

Is it POSSIBLE for The Enquirer, which used to actually perform investigative journalism instead of reprinting press releases, to investigate this?

Alicia Reece used to funnel tens of thousands of campaign dollars to "Integrity Hall" and "Communiplex": how if these businesses didn't even exist?

AT A MINIMUM request Operation Step-Up's 990s (required of non-profits by federal law to be made available for public review).

Jeez Louise!

Jane,
The Mayor does not determine the committees. Article II, Section 5A of the Charter reads, "The council shall organize itself and conduct its business as it deems appropriate, including the formation of committees for the efficient conduct of the business of the council. At the first meeting in December following the regular municipal election, the council shall select from among its members a president pro tem........"

It would be a Charter violation for him to determine committee organization, jurisdiction and structure. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your POV, his authority is limited to setting the chairs and appointing the Vice Mayor. However, he can do that "without the advice or consent of Council".

Oh he's busy. He has appointed this task force (on groceries) and another (on global warming).

In both cases the concept of a task force is silly. But it makes it looks like Mayor Zero is doing SOMETHING.

While he's doing nothing (and Streicher is MIA):

(1) His cops are shooting deer;

(2) His cops are goofing off in Madisonville and their supervisors are not working;

(3) His cops are having sex in cruisers in Ault Park.

(4) His cops are lying about affidavits on tickets.

And this is what we KNOW about. Anybody else see a pattern here? Streicher is way overdue to leave, and Mallory is asleep.

He's too busy keeping his brother Dail out of jail to do any work for the taxpayers. Forget about investigating the Reese Crime Family; the Mallory Mafia is the family to investigate.

PLEASE LET US GET MALLORY OUT OF THE MAYOR'S OFFICE DURING THE NEXT TIME FOR ELECTING OUR CITY'S MAYOR. HE IS AWFUL! WHO CARES IF HE FORMED A COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS A GROCERY STORE ISSUE. WHO CARES REALLY WHAT HE OFFERS, HE DOES NOT RESPECT CINCINNATI VERY WELL. IF HE REALLY CARES ABOUT US, HE WOULD DUMP HIS BODY GUARD AND SAVE US TAX MONEY. HE SHOULD STOP TRAVELLING OVER SEAS AND WORRY ABOUT CINCINNATI. HE REALLY IS A HORRIBLE MAYOR OF CINCINNATI.

VOTE FOR A STRONG MAYOR WITH SOME BACKBONE! GET ALL OF THE MALLORY FAMILY OUT OF POLITICS!!!

No Grocery Taskforce is needed. No grocery store is needed. Where does all these "well to do" people who CHOSE to relocate downtown bought groceries to date? Have they got into their BMV's Cadillacs, etc., parked in the underground garages driven to Hyde Park or somewhere else for their groceries? For the past couple of years how have they purchased their Christmas gifts, etc. You can be sure they didn't patronize the downdown stores.

So if they're hungry, let them patronize the downtown restaurants. They can then get their booze for home parties when they "drive"for their groceries. GOSH, I feel so sorry for them. But it was their choice.
