This sounds like a Party fundraiser and not a policy meeting.

More claptrap from the empty suit known as Mayor Mark. What does he actually DO all day?

And by the way, for the liberal foot-tapping, bold typist who posted above: Little Jeffre LOST! He was CRUSHED at the polls!! The voters rightly returned the honorable Jeff Berding, Chris Monzel, and Leslie Ghiz to council.
Congrats to all three.

"...No Hot air from Bold Endeevers! HAD ENOOUGH!..."

Does Endeevers = endeavors ?

Does ENOOUGH = ENOUGH ?

Looks like the third-grade school drop-out, use-less, ****ing idiot of the NAZI party (tnp) has resumed her HTML stalking !

She should submit her resume' to the whistle-blower. Seems well qualified, grammatically !

HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2008 !

There they go again! David Crowley is obviously unable to stick to the business of Cincinnnati! This council and this mayor campaigned on the issues of Crime/Public Saftey, Economic Development, and building the banks. Now Crowley and Mallory are attacking global warming?! If these two want to be in Congress let them run and stay away from the City which they are STILL neglecting!

AMEN TO THE ABOVE COMMENT (anon 7:36)

Anon 7:36:

Global Warming is a problem that affects everyone on a local, state, federal, and worldwide level. It is everyone's problem. Many steps to curb global warming include steps to reduce energy consuption, and to make it more effecient. Energy saving measures can save tax dollars and increase revenue for the city.

Let the silliness begin. How stupid were we to elect Crowley?

Typical Mallory.

Zero.

Hey Anon, 7:36 PM -- I wonder if you'd say the same thing if city leaders were talking about illegal immigrants. I doubt it.

Hey Anon 7:36.

What's wrong with global warming? Winters are less severe with the furnace working less (burning less fuel). Longer growing season for our vegetable gardens. Warmer days so we can play and excercise outside. Etc
But I think the mayor and his merry men should be more concerned about the shootings (I thought crime was down) the last few days and the dying economy of Cincinnati and it will get worse once Kentucky gambling comes alive.

Mallory has not a clue on local issues so he appoints this stupid task force which will do NOTHING.

We have a mayor with a bodyguard, nice cloths, and no brain!

Are you kidding me?!?!

Dear God! Are you people not aware that Cincinnati is ranked the 11th most polluted city year round, in the United States.

Aside from the fact that we all have the obligation to do our part to effectivly address this phenomena if not for ourselves, for future generations, this also happens to be an issue (global or not) that notably affects us in the present day!!!!

Librariangrrl,

According to the American Lung Association, Cincinnati is not in the top 25 American Cities for smog. Cincinnati is ranked 8 as far as airborne particulates that are made up of mold and pollen. The only way to change this would be to either put some really big fans on Costa Mesa (formaly known as "up yonder"), or blanket-spray the county with agent orange and eliminate the sources of the pollen and mold.

You have too many L Ron Algore novels in your Liebarry.

Everyone knows there is no such thing as global warming. Chuck Norris was just cold and he turned up the sun.

Usefulidiot--

I do not recall mentioning "smog". I believe I said that Cincinnati is ranked as the 11th most polluted city in U.S.

This information is what is reported on the American Lung Association's website. Since you apparently visited this site, you must know this.

Perhaps you should give up on your statistical analysis and work a little bit harder on your reading / comprehension skills. I can suggest a great refresher workshop if you'd like.

"Longer growing season for our vegetable gardens."
?
My vegetable garden got pretty much fried this past year.

Quim,
When you grow veggies in a garden, do not forget to water (if we have dry spells). The lack of rain, not longer growing season, zapped your plants. The long growing seasons as we see in Cal. and Florida are great for produce. Good luck next summer.

OK.. please define "polution" for me. I guess smog and airborn particulates are not to be "comprehended" as polution?

Usefulidot--

My understanding is that 'smog' is a manifestation of certain pollutants, reacting chemically, when they are exposed to sunlight.

Pollutants are liquids, chemicals, and gases which as particles may be invisible to the naked eye, however are still present in our environment, contaminating our air quality regardless of whether you can see them or not.

Smog is a possible, visible manifestation of pollution, however, smog is not necessarily an indicator of the level of particle matter and pollutants in the air on a daily basis, year-round.

However, I'm not too sure that any of that really matters.

The point, as I see it, is that we certainly DO have issues with air quality in this city. Cincinnati, more than the norm. Pollution can cause health problems for people of all ages, in particular children. Being that it is the charge of our public servants to make decisions that benefit the general interests and well-being of the citizens that they serve, i REALLY can not understand what all the criticism is about on this issue...

The establishment of this committee is a good thing... Unless of course breathing isn't something you value.

librariangrrl,
I have no problem with your spirit; modern society needs checks and balances. I am assuming that you might not be aware of the EPA. This is a government agency that was formed under the Nixon administration to combat the issues that you bring forth, but on a national level. This agency has a 7.2 billion dollar budget of yours and my money to accomplish our clean air/water goals for 2008.

Since 1970, quantum leaps have been made in the quality of our air and water. You may not be old enough to remember the scum along the edge of the river and the punjit, acrid smells wafting up from the industries along the mill creek. I do, and we have never had it better since the first half of the 19th century with one minor quid pro quo; the loss of middle-class manufacturing jobs to places that could give a fat rat’s butt about the children and the old like China and Mexico and other third world countries. They have exemptions under this Kyoto agreement.

I have no problem with all these people getting together for coffee and maybe even drafting some suggestions to pass along to the EPA, but without a nickel of TAXPAYER MONEY. NOT ONE DIME OF TAX GENERATED DOLLARS SHOULD BE SPENT ON THIS FEEL-GOOD, RESUME BUILDING GROUP HUG. If there are to be expenses, let all of these good community minded individuals and companies chip in for the doughnuts.

By the way, nothing turns me off more than when Libs invoke the “children” thing.
If you are so worried about the old and the children, then you would be anti- assisted suicide, and an advocate of the 40m murdered children since Roe v Wade.

Anonymous,

The heat did indeed fry many gardens this year, even those that were irrigated. A few plants, like tomatoes, like extreme heat, but fall crops were almost non-existent because it was too hot for them to germinate.

at 5:51 PM, November 20, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

The EPA is not a LOCAL agency it is federal. They set standards for us to follow--it is the charge of our LOCAL government to ensure that these guidelines are being met. I think that is what you meant by 'checks and balances'. And THAT, my dear, is what this committee seems to be doing.

The Roe Vs. Wade topic is a bit unrelated, wouldn't you say? I'm not going to even touch that one!!!! But I do feel compelled to point out that I find your dramatic language more than a bit (mis) leading. Scientifically, a 'fetus' is not a 'child' nor is terminating a pregnancy considered 'murder'.

It may be so in your mind, but let's stick to the facts, and the Bible, I'm afraid, is not considered an authoritive, non-biased reference resource in which one should base their educated opinion on.
