Schmidt to miss her campaign party

Enquirer Washington Bureau reporter Malia Rulon reports:

It's still up in the air whether Rep. Jean Schmidt's campaign will be holding a victory party next week on election night - or a defeat party. She faces a difficult challenge in the May 2 GOP
primary from Bob McEwen, a former congressman from southern Ohio.

But one thing's already clear - Schmidt will miss either one.

That's because the Congress is scheduled to return to session on Tuesday, the same day as the primary. Actually, the House is out most of the day and only plans to meet at 6:30 p.m. for a series of non-controversial votes that should take about an hour.

Still, Schmidt plans to be there.

"She is a sitting member of Congress and she owes it to her constituents to go and vote," said Schmidt chief of staff Barry Bennett.

So Schmidt, who spends her weekends at home in Miami Township, plans to be up Tuesday morning before daybreak to get in her morning run - she's training for Cincinnati's Flying Pig marathon May 7 - and be the first person to cast her ballot at her Clermont County precinct at 6:30 a.m.

She'll then spend several hours greeting poll workers, attend Mass and do TV interviews at the airport before flying to Washington around 3 p.m.

Bennett said Schmidt plans to monitor the election results in between votes from her Washington office. She'll head over to the Republican National Committee office to talk to supporters once results are in via a satellite transmission to her campaign party at the Clermont County Republican Party offices.

Now the only thing we don't know is whether it'll be a victory speech - or a concession speech.

Jean Schmidt can schedule a victory party any old time. What's important is that Jean is committed to doing the people's business. Best of luck to Jean, her campaign staff, and all of her dedicated volunteers during this final lap. The finish line is in sight - let's keep going until victory is achieved on May 2nd! Go Jean go!

Schmidt is going negative...and what a surprise, it's a bunch of lies. Who would have thought she would stoop this low. This is going to backfire bigtime and prove to all that she got the name honestly - Mean Jean

Is the people's business continuing to lie? I guess so. She is going to Washington in case of defeat to avoid embarrassment. And like debating, it shows how she wants to avoid contact with her constituents. Show me a politician who does not want their picture taken at their victory party after the election. Isn't that right Stan Chesley. Lies, lies and more lies.

For a Catholic, I'll bet she is in the confessional at least once a day. That's why she is always going to church. She needs forgiveness big-time.

I guess its easier to hide from local tv cameras in D.C. when she loses?

Jean enjoys an illegal endorsement from her own county party, uses their assets and has an illegal slate card printed in violation of McCain feingold by her county party. Jean has received less than 50% of her party's vote in Clermont County the last two elections. if that happens this time either Bob McEwen or Debbie Kraus will win.

Poor little Jeanette. She won't get that ride in Air Force One she has always dreamed of. Georgie won't campaign just for her. The spotlight won't lovingly shine on her little farmgirl face as she bows to her adoring public. Poor little Jeanette Chesley.

Being at a party for a loser is no fun. I don't blame her, I wouldn't want to attend the party either as it will be a real bummer. McEwen's party should be a blast though with all the celebrating that will be going on. Let's all meet there!

Will Bob McEwen show there and thank Jean supporters for the lies and hate they have spewed at him and his supporters? You bett! Bob is a gracious man, win or lose. Last year he came to the next day meeting called by Tim Rudd and bowed to Jean. He is a decent man. Jean or no Jean, Bob is a class act!

Jean Schmidt will win by 4-6% on Tuesday. When that happens, will all of you Schmidt-haters come back to this blog to apologize? No, you'll just slink back to the gutter along with Bouncin' Bob. Only Bob's gutter is located in Virginia, where he lives and works and votes (sometimes).

Going back to DC because she needs to be there for a couple of votes on stuff that is not important. Trying to act like she is making a doing her job. She is always too busy to be with the voters. She was too busy to show up when she was ordered to in Columbus on Thursday. She says "I don't remember" or I don't know to over 50 questions. She will not face Bob in a debate. She will not face anything.
The really sad thing is that there are people who support her and have given up their time to work in her campaign. And in what is yet another stunt she will not show up for her own victory or defeat party. Sad because that would be the time win or lose to show thanks and gratitude to those that have worked and volunteered for her. The least you can do is show those people on that night that you are with them. Also it will be interesting to see when the voters choose someone who will get things done for the 2nd district(Bob McEwen) if Jean will show the class that Bob did last year. Bob congratulated her and put his support behind her. It will be interesting.

Jean just started showing a commerical that says several lies. In it she says "Bob Mcewen voted illegally" She may believe that but it is lie. The Ohio Elections Commission in 10 minutes threw out the complaint on this and said that is wsa not even worthy of a hearing. The lawsuit she filed failed. It has been proven that Bob did not vote illegally. The OEC said this and the courts have said this. IN fact Schmidt could have filed a complaint with the Hamiton County Board of Elections up until 5 pm yesterday and they did not. Why because they know the complaint would not have any merit. SO Jean has a commercial that is a lie. It is a lie that the courts and the OEC have said is not true.

All of McEwens ads have facts that have been proven that Jean told lies about education, told lies about endorsements, she did vote many time to raise our taxes, she did make us look bad by her comments on the house floor. Those are facts. Her ad is the lowest of lows and is full of more lies.

The ad got released just late enough to that nothing could be files with the Ohio Elections Commission. She waited till after 5pm today. Now nothing can be heard until Monday. Yet another political stunt and more lies.

Once again everything McEwen says is facts proven by hearings and Schmidt a day after she is told to stop lying and clean up her act she does this.

She and her people are now lower than low. I hope and have faith that the voters will see through this bunch of crap that the Schmidt have pulled.

What do we get from Jean. LIES and more LIES.

Mean Jean is smart to camp out in Washington. She won't be having a victory party either way. I'm looking forward to the return of Congressman Bob McEwen.

I am interested to know why the Clermont Co. endorsement for Jean is illegal.

I'm sure GW was thrilled, that is if that really happened.

WAIT A MINUTE! A Schmidt supporter has just said she will only win by single digits!! I thought she was way ahead?

In conclusion, her polling and WCPO's polling was a joke.

I'd rather have my representative voting, and you all would be saying the same thing if you didn't just hate the woman for no reason. Most of these people are just so old and have views that relate back to the 20's, views that women shouldn't serve in Government. And the OEC is hardly a place to decide Bob's residency issues. This will be solved in a real court, with laws that will administered, not some "technical" ruling. I can't wait for May 3rd, when Jean calls in and says thank you to all of us for exposing who is the better person to represent the 2nd district.

You're right, Survey USA vs. Zogby and Zogby's the winner, especially when the majority of people polled were in the eastern counties.

NOTE TO SCHMIDT-HEADS:

Nobody "hates Jean Schmidt for no reason."

We hate her because she's a no-good, loud-mouthed, tax-raising liar who will years to rebuild her credibility after all of the crap we've seen from her since she was elected.

Can a single Schmidt supporter honestly stand up and say you are proud of Schmidt's record?

HAHAHAHA She's a disaster for this district and you people know it.

Bob McEwen will do a much better job representing us. He's already proven himself.

I am in my 20's so my views don't go back to the 1920s. I grew up and my parents taught me the most important thing is to tell the truth and not to bear false witness on others. I voted for Jean last time. But now I have seen it proven that she lied many, many times. She has raised my taxes but talks about government being too big?? In my book her actions are another lie. Then after a lawsuit in the courts has no basis so it is out of the courts in a matter of hours and the Ohio Elections Commission says Bob is a resident. Schmidt puts an ad out that says Bob is not a resident and voted illegally. That is a lie and she knows it. The courts and the OEC have found no problem with Bob's residency and then she make the accusation on a TV ad. She is full of lies and making false statements about others. I will not be voting for her this time. And yes there are many of us in our 20's who consider telling the truth important. And we are sick of the political stunts that Schmidt has pulled. I don't want my congressman to just blindly follow a president like she follow Bush. I want out representative to work for us and get something done. Bob got things done when he was a congressman and he will once again.

Schmidt lies and has shown xero class.

Forgive me, if this seems that I am being almost as mean spirited as Mrs. Schmidt, but I detect a bias in the article at the head of this thread. The point of the story is that Mrs. Schmidt has duties in Washington on Tuesday evening. What is the relevance of when she is going to vote, run, attend Mass, etc.. It really sounds as though the writer is trying to pimp Mrs. Schmidt with recognizable interest groups. If that is the intent, the article should be on the Editorial page, not offered as a news item.

On the other hand, I will give the Enquirer news department credit. Their front page feature on the 7-0 finding that Mrs. Schmidt has repeatedly lied in her campaign, almost certainly doomed her candidacy. I am not suggesting that the article was biased. It was indeed the significant news item. But the Enquirer deserves credit for shooting down their own mistaken endorsement, last Sunday!

Meanwhile, Bob McEwen once again clearly outshone Mrs. Schmidt, even on her home turf, last night in Bethel. While the sponsoring group were primarily Schmidt backers, Bob cut deeply into her support among her neighbors, by being his usual class candidate.

To William Flax

I was at the Bethel forum last night and cannot agree more. Bob was a class act. I was disappointed in him bringing the article to light when Melvin does not allow bashing, and was surprised he did not call Bob on it. However, Jean was in all her insincere glory. Even Deborah Kraus showed the crowd she has a better grasp at being the honest everyday citizen.

Jean is going back to Washington to pack her things, as she knows the UHaul will be arriving soon.

I am a Catholic woman of the 2nd district and I proudly voted for another Catholic woman last August. BUT NOT AGAIN! I certainly support women in government, but I would never vote for a candidate simply because she is a woman. In the general election against Paul Hackett last summer, I evaluated the candidates and chose Jean Schmidt because she was articluate, pro-life and stood tough on national defense. But her record since being elected has been underwhelming and I have been dismayed with many of her statements and decisions, particularly during this primary campaign.

Going into this primary I have spent a considerable amount of time and effort gathering information and forming an opinion. I see it as my civic duty and responsibility. I have met both candidates, listened to both candidates, and researched the records of both candidates.

To tell you all the truth, I come away missing Rob Portman more than ever... BUT, I will support Bob McEwen in this race because I think he will have more influence and clout in Congress, I think he is a truer conservative, and I don't think he shows a tendency towards vindictive and back-stabbing behavior. I also can't picture him EVER hiring Stan Chesley, for any reason.

I count myself as a proud lifelong Ohioan -- and frankly I considered myself an Ohioan every day of the 5 years that I lived out-of-state atending college and grad school. I also never failed to vote in Ohio during those years (using my parents' address as my permanent address). I LOVE Ohio and LOVE being from Ohio and completely understand why anyone would want to maintain their connection and residency, even when working away from home. I will admit that I am troubled that in the past Mr. McEwen used someone else's address to maintain residency and vote, but I understand how someone can feel so thoroughly and completely connected to Ohio that they can't break away. As for where he lives now, I am entirely content with his Anderson condo and Virginia house. It's a big district -- he can't live in all of our backyards and he can't be hangin' around all of our local events anyway when Congress is in session. The Virginia house is fine by me.

In the meantime -- why can't this Grand Old Party come up with better choices? Where is our next Rob Portman and how can we help move him/her along?

classic. endorsing her because shes the incumbent? i think not.

Does she not owe it to her campaign volunteers and staff to be ther with them when she delivers her concession speech at 7:35 PM?

I imagine Jean would rather be back in Iraq than here in Bob's district Tuesday night.

Survey says.... McEwen by 10 points.

I need to state something for the record here. On May 3rd, Jean Schmidt is going to be the Congresswoman. She will still be the Congresswoman for the remainder of 2006. EVEN IF McEwen beats her (which, by the way, I hope he does).

So, if Jean loses, what havoc will she wreak in the final eight months of her term?

at 9:52 PM, April 29, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

missing Portman sure doesn't sound like they are very pround of their intended candidate!!

at 9:57 PM, April 29, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

If by some chance Mr McEwen is fortunate enough to dupe 51 percent of voting republicans, I sincerely doubt that he will be able to serve his full term in office after the residency issues are all presented.
Laws are laws, just because a person may obtain the required votes doesn't mean the legislature has to accept them if they have broken the law.

at 10:03 PM, April 29, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

I certainly hope that the national GOP is paying attention.
This heavily republican district is self destructing and after 70 plus percent supporting Bush, there may just be an opening for a democrat to get elected here if Bob would happen to edge his way into the primary.
Good luck Jean and keep fighting for what is right for the citizens of the Ohio 2nd district.

Bob sure knows how to say all the right things to get people to back him.
He is a great salesman! Check out his websites. Google Bob McEwen. He's selling motivational tapes online. Something like a snakeoil salesman!!??

unlike bob, jeans actually committed to the constituents of the second district. youre more than welcome to twist it around all you want, but those that know anything about jean know she hates to miss votes. why does she need to be at the party anyway? the real party will be in november.

The "illegal voting" has got to be the worst attempt at a desperate smear as anything I've ever heard.

Too bad that one backfired on the Schmidt-heads. The backlash is killing them. HAHAHAHAHA.

Hey Common Sense: Why 4 posts?? Just say all of your stuff in one.

First the GOP is watching this primary and believe me they know about the low depths that Jean has lowered herself to. They know she is running TV ads with lies in them and believe me they know in DC that she hired a Democractic Lawyer who is the number one John Kerry fundraiser. They know and her actions will only hurt us more in DC. You think she will get good appointments and respect in DC after pulling what she did. I Jean happens to win we lose big time and believe me the National GOP is not going to want a thing to do with her.
He will be able to serve his full term because this residency issue is a joke. By the way the law is you only have to move into an Ohio district 30 days before the election to be elligible to run. SO stop spreading lies once again.
Oh yea by the way you complain about Bob saying the right things. Isn't that what we want. Our congressman should say the right things at the right time. Unlike Jean who said the wrong thing at the wrong time on the floor of the hourse and does it all of the time. We need someone in congress who will say the right thing and represent us with class. That is Bob McEwen

at 1:22 PM, April 30, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

"Common Sense" (I'm assuming you jest)

Jean is the one who nearly lost to a Democrat in this notoriously Republican district. The GOP should be worried about her winning, though that is not likely this time around.

Furthermore, sending an honest salesman and motivator to represent us in congress is exactly what we need--we're sending a rep for our district to not only vote for us, but to encourage others to do what's best for the country as well. He is absolutely the best candidate for the job!

at 3:08 PM, April 30, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Thank you for correcting the Schmidt supporter. JEAN is the one who almost lost this safe seat! Even if Jean does win Tuesday (now highly unlikely), I believe Jim Parker could even give her a run for her money :)
