Schmidt parade

First her parade car stalled. Then she faced accusations that, as Rep. Tom Brinkman said, “She snuck into the parade!”

Yes, we're talking about Rep. Jean Schmidt.

Those of you reading the Opening Day blog might have found this nugget:

At 12:01, we had the first parade snafu.

A red Corvette in Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's entourage stalled in the middle of the intersection of 5th and Sycamore.

Six or eight floats had to go around, until others in her entourage could push it out of the way, and get it rolling back down 5th.

Most of the other politicians were on foot. Cincinnati Vice-Mayor Jim Tarbell was pushing a peanut cart and dressed as Peanut Jim. City Councilman Chris Monzel and Congressman Steve Chabot were on foot and walking with their families.

But as Reporter Quan Truong reports, Schmidt's lousy day wasn't over yet.

Several Schmidt critics accused her of jumping into the parade without paying the required fee.

“As an elected official, they should have some integrity,” said Brinkman, a Schmidt critic who has endorsed her GOP primary opponent, Bob McEwen.

Brinkman recalled observing Schmidt enter the parade.

After consulting Mike Luken, of the parade committee, Brinkman checked the finalized parade list and alleged Schmidt did not make the contribution required to participate in the Opening day celebration.

Luken admitted there was speculation about Schmidt’s presence but refused to comment further, requesting the Enquirer drop the issue.

In the end, Schmidt’s campaign manager, Allen Freeman, responded to the accusations with a check number for $75 paid to the Findlay Market Association.

“We are paid in full,” Freeman said. “I think it’s another one of those issues that our opponent keeps trying to gin up and it really amounts to a whole lot of nothing.”

Parade Chairman, Neil Luken, could not be reached for comment.

It sounds like the rest of her campaign.

Since this article made reference to her "check"... We need to think back a little bit to checks of a different nature from the other candidate in the Republican primary.

I am very familiar with the history of the House Bank. I look forward to painting the picture of this abuse of power if and when the time comes. For how many years has the United States House of Representatives been putting itself ahead of all other Americans? Way too many if you ask me...

What this country needs is a representative that believes in the people that he represents. We need a person who genuinely wants to make people's lives better. Government can be a means of improving the lives of others while balancing the cost of social programs at the same time. I am in this for the middle class and the baby boom generation of the United States of America. I'm in this for small and family businesses that are the backbone of our economy. I'm in this to save Medicare, provide healthcare coverage for every child in America and to end the war in Iraq.

I've spent my career in organizations of health and human kindness. It is an honor to have touched so many people's lives. Maybe it's about time we turn the US House of Representatives into an organization of health and Human Kindness...

How did Rob Portman get thru 12 years in Congress without a single embarassment to the voters?

This woman can't get through a week without embarassing us.

Republican voters: Please end this misery. Put her out of a job!

Who had to push, when the car died? Probably her area staff and husband. Phone Boy, I'm sure you earned your money today. Allan, you may have gotten away with sneaking into the parade had Jean's new Corvette not stalled, holding up the entire parade. Must have been embarassing.

How ironic... and since many readers now have the song "Lil Red Corvette" by The Artist Formerly Known As The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, here are the opening lyrics:
"i guess i shoulda known by the way
u parked your car sideways
that it wouldn't last..."

Tom, you do more harm that good when you shoot your mouth off like that. No wonder you finished third behind a pathological liar and a check-bouncer.

I guess McEwen wasn't there because the parade coordinator wasn't sure that his check wouldn't bounce!

166 times down the parade route.

"A whole lot of nothing," like maybe LYING aout having a college degree that she does not have?

Things are so bad with the Schmidt campaign that Allen Freeman was seen passing out resumes to parade attendees.

The Findlay Market Parade Committee doesn't charge for the parade entries! They take donations! Schmidt for Congress gave a donation. Mike Luken should check with his brother Neil. This reporter should have also!

Wow, this blog is so full of misinformation and lame justifications, it's beginning to resemble Jean Schmidt's resume.

Let me begin by setting the record straight on the parade fees. The Findlay Market Parade fees are MANDATORY for political entrants. The organizers may make exceptions for non-profits, but in my dozen or so years experience booking entries for politicians, the fee was always mandatory. No fee, no entry -- period! Call Neil Luken at 513-721-6533 to verify.

Second, McEwen wasn't in the parade most likely because the entry fee deadline is always earlier in the year. No late entries are permitted and McEwen did not declare his candidacy until January. Despite your best intentions to belittle him, McEwen would not jump parade lines because he plays by the rules. Always has and always will.

Can Schmidt say the same? Dare I raise the issues of phony endorsements, lying on resumes, agreeing to, then backing out of not one, but two (Loveland and Anderson Twp) debates, and now parade jumping?

When will it ever end?

This entire campaign is turning out to be an embarassment to the Congresswoman. Who in the world does she have running it??

at 11:50 AM, April 04, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

A number of people have referred to bounced checks in this blog. I guess that having a retired federal appellate court judge serving as special prosecutor conducting the investigation and issueing an exhonoration means nothing. Careless people lie for their own benefit, Just like the woman from Miami Twp. Before you give wide spread life to this lie you should consider that it is liable and actionable in a court of law.
If you want the facts find the series of articles from the New York Times by David Johnston. Only Mary Rose Okar, a Democrat, from Ohio was guilty. Five others , four Democrats and one Republican were guilty. One currently serves in congress. Charles Rangel.

If the campaign wrote a check and the Findley Market organizers aren't complaining did the Enquirer even need write this. This is a piece of lousy reporting. Quan Trang should be embarrased that this even went to print on the blog.

If leading 55-30 is known as "stalling," I'm kind of scared to see what "cruising" would be.

Oh? You mean the same Rob Portman that endorsed Jean Schmidt?

Regarding the degree, keep on bringing up minor phoney scandals and encouraging our buddy Parker. She had the credits, just didn't pick up the parchment. Yes, she should have picked up the parchment, but it's not anything close to a "scandal."

The Dems are loving this primary battle, that is for certain.

at 3:53 PM, April 04, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow lets see. Jean claims she got the degree in 1984. Then someone on the campaign said it was 1986. Then we find out in the Enquirer that she took classes as late as 1992. Now unless she was working on a nuclear physics degree that she "forgot to pick-up" none of this adds up.

It is clear that all of these dates and I fogot toos leave a large cloud of smoke. Pretty clear where there is smoke there is fire. Would not be a big deal(so the Schmidt people say.) But it is a big deal because it is one lie after another. That is a big deal!!!!

I am tired of the lies and having a congressperson who embarrasses us in Cincinnati.

Time to go Jean. Or should I say time to retire to your nice house here in Cincy.

Totally off topic but there was a murder right after the parade in OTR...that's 14 murders in about 4.5 weeks now...annual average of about 160. When are one of these city, county or congressional reps going to actually do something constructive about crime in this city instead of siting on our collective hands watching Indy and Columbus continue to mop us up in terms of creating a safe downtown destination for locals and tourists. I lived in Detroit for 8 years and this is starting to reak of Detroit and that's tremendously sad because this is a truly beautiful city, much more than Detroit, when you wash away the crime.

Jim Parker completed his MBA and his Master of Health Administration by the time he was 23 (and he can prove it).

It's on his website.

Okay, enough with the Parker Propoganda. You can't convince this crowd to vote for you! Maybe use your time wisely and court Democrat votes?

"Holding up the entire parade. Must have been embarassing."

This was not a big deal for Mean Jean and the evil sister, as they are use to being embarrassed. I wonder who is going to get the blame for the Little Red Corvette breaking down.

This just in: the Three Aberdeen cops just indicted for multiple felonies had ALL endorsed McEwen. McEwen's people were much quicker taking down these real endorsements than they were in taking down the bogus endorsement of Dr. Willke and Anthony Munoz.

This overdraft stuff is so old and so overblown. The House Bank provided overdraft protection. Big deal. Abuse? I don't think so. I have overdraft protection at PNC. My kids have it at 5/3rd and USBank. Who freaking cares. Just because the House Bank did this someone tried to make a big deal out of nothing. By the way Jim, as I recall, more Democrats overdrafted checks than Republicans. Will you be mentioning that in your campaign? Be careful what you sling, it may come back and bite you.

Schmidt backed out of the Loveland debate also? What the the reason for that cut and run tactic? For someone who is critical of cutting and running, she sure does a lot of both.

She says she is willing to debate and then never does. Lies and more lies.

Anyone know if the Schmidt/Hoffmans are related to the Clintons? Sure looks like it.

Mr. Parker, I mean Anon 6:24, you're not fooling anyone, or gaining votes on this blog. I find you annoying. Also I hope that Mr. Wilkinson will discuss the Congresswoman's 25 point lead over McEwen, and that he polled the highest when there were liberals in the mix. Funny. COAST being hated by Republicans, voters seeing the truth about a person and not buying the attacks from the media, and a has been being beat by an is, looks like I'm falling asleep a happy man. I love my district and my party, I'm sorry McEwen and COAST have such a problem with it. I guess they'll focus on brainwashing the OH-1 candidate and Northern Virginia from now on. Goodnight.

The numbers speak for themselves. Second district Republicans are going to return Jean to Washington. It is interesting to see so many attacks on Jean on left leaning blog sites. This alone must mean she is doing something right.
As the post above says, right now those who are going to vote soon on the Republican candidate have her way out in front. And by the way, there is no democrat remotely close to beating her in November.

at 8:26 AM, April 05, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

If Mr. Freeman is correct and there is a check for $75.00 then the Enquirer missed the true story here. The real story is why is State Representative Tom Brinkman lying about Jean Schmidt's entry in the parade?

When will the people of Anderson Township going to wake up and send this lying scoundrel Brinkman into retirmenent? He is true embarressment to us all!

at 8:28 AM, April 05, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why would a publication like the Enquirer ever give Tom Brinkman the time of day?

Your very own publication has listed him time and again as one of the least effective legislators on the planet!

You should know that anything coming out of his mouth is either trash or a lie!

Hey if your canidate(schmidt) is so good and by far the best then I say put up or shut up. Jean will not debate Bob. That is the act of a coward!!! That is the act of a scared person!!! If she can't stand up in front of people and answer questions then she is a coward.
Bob will debate and those that want to ask tough questions will be allowed to. Difference between Bob and Jean he will stand there and answer them.

Jean does not want to answer about lies about college degrees, lies about who is endorsing her, and more and more.

Wow you really want to support someone who will not debate. What a coward!!!

Bob will fight it out in a debate and he will fight it out in DC.

Jean Schmidt was not on the parade participant list as of the day of the parade. She snuck in the parade even though she missed the entry deadline by far, tried to avoid paying the required fee, then even held up the parade while her campaign suffered another breakdown. That's the Mean Jean we all know and love.
