SNL's Dratch to reprise Jean Schmidt role?

Now that Jean Schmidt has made it clear she won't show up for an April 19 debate with primary opponent Bob McEwen at the Anderson Township Republican Club, the Anderson Republicans are looking to replace here with America's only known Schmidt impersonator - Rachel Dratch of Saturday Night Live.

Duffy Beischel of the Anderson Township Republican Club said that after Schmidt's campaign manager pulled his candidate out of the debate at Mercy Healthplex, some club members suggested subsituting Dratch, who did very loud and very funny impersonation of Schmidt on SNL, after the 2nd District congresswoman made national headlines with her "cowards cut and run'' speech on the floor of the House.

Beischel said he thought it was "a great idea'' and sent invitations to Dratch and SNL produceer Lorne Michaels, although he has yet to hear back from them. McEwen, Beischel said, was consulted and has no problem with it.

"He's a pretty easy-going guy,'' Beischel said.

If Dratch somehow accepts the invitation, we can only hope she wears the famous red, white and blue dress.

I think Rachel Dratch would better represent a dignified Congressman than Jean Schmidt has over the past few months.

Jean Schmidt should just resign and go back to her Clermont County farm. She needs to stop the embarassment.

Oh my God. This woman. This woman. This woman. Oh my God.

Frankly, I think this hurts McEwen if they do pull this off. Somehow I do not see a close connection to the left wing nuts in the entertainment industry and working well for any Republican candidate and it will be seen as a good reason why the candidate pulled out of this obviously biased crowd. If I were Schmidt, I would be praying they pull this off and have this liberal crowd come in and hang their arms around McEwen. Like the post above said from a solid Democrat, they would love to attend if this is a bashing of a Republican candidate. I notice the Speaker of the House was just in to support Schmidt.

I just read the article in the Enquirer about Schmidt's bogus college degree.

I'm appalled by this woman. It seems like every time I turn around, she does something else to embarrass the Republican Party.

1) Nearly lost a perfectly safe seat to flaming liberal Paul Hackett

2) Makes the "cowards cut and run" statement. While many agree with the sentiment, most also understand that it undermined the REAL STORY, which was that the US Congress voted 403-3 to stay the course in Iraq. Instead, the debate shifted to stupid rhetoric and the nation missed the real message. Worse, she was humiliated on Saturday Night Live - a first for our district.

3) She again becomes a national laughing stock after sending out a press release complaining about Tom Brinkman "cutting off her (cake) head in effigy," after Brinkman was photographed slicing a cake with her picture on it. The nation continued to snicker at her.

4) Recently, we learned she lied about having the endorsements of TWO Congressmen, including our own Steve Chabot. She was forced to remove those endorsements.

5) A few days later, she was forced to remove YET ANOTHER ENDORSEMENT, this time from the Family Research Council, which never endorsed her.

6) Now, today, we learn she lied about having a college degree.

How much more of this do we have to take before she just resigns in disgrace?

McEwen will debate a fictitious character from Saturday Night Live but he won't debate Parker.

Keep it up Jim. We've got your back!

So, why did Schmidt pull out of the Anderson Township debate? Does she not represent Anderson Township?

Perhaps she is back in night school finishing her 3rd degree in nuclear physics?

What a disgrace to the people of this district!

Hey cut Congresswoman Schmidt some slack. Lots of people go to college and can't remember if they graduated or not. That's a pretty tough thing to keep track of.

We should be thankful we have someone of her tremendous intellect running this country.

Anon 12:46-- first things first. Parker needs to beat the Dems before he debates a Republican. Sheesh. This is like the Seahawks trying to play in the AFC playoffs. Win your division first!

Wouldn't Ms. Schmidt play a great Aunt Clara if another Bewitched movie was produced? She can't remember anything and she sure looks the part.

Aunt Clara? Schmidt should play the evil mother Endora? That role would suit her much better.
