Dog bites man; Democrats fight each other

Fans of the WWF, roller derby, rugby, and other less-than-gentle sports may want to stop by the Hamilton County Democratic Party executive committee meeting at the Norwood Community Center Wednesday night, where the fur will surely be flying.

That's when the party will make its final endorsements - or non-endorsements - for the May 2 primary; and, based on the recommendations that will be made by the party's candidate screening committees, there are likely to be some fireworks.

According to Tim Burke, the county party chairman, the screening committee that interviewed county candidates will endorse David Pepper, the would-be mayor, over former Forest Park mayor Stephanie Dumas in the county commissioner's race.

That is pretty much a no-brainer, but some of the other endorsement recommendations are anything but.

They include:

- A dual endorsement of both Eric Kearney and Catherine Barrett for the state senate. Kearney was appointed to the seat when Mark Mallory became mayor; Barrett, a state representative who is term-limted out this year, thought she deserved the promotion. Supporters of either one are unlikely to be happy with a split-the-baby decision.

- No endorsement at all in the race for Barrett's open Ohio House seat, where the mayor's brother, Dale Mallory, faces a serious challenger from former county recorder Eve Bolton. The legislative candidate screeening committee is going to recommend a wide open primary, with no candidate receiving the party blessing. Update! But Burke sent a letter to members of the executive committee urging them to reject the screeening committee's no-endorsement advice and give the party endorsement to Mallory.

- The 2nd Congressional District race, where there are five Democrats running. But the screening committee will recommend endorsing only two of them - Victoria Wulsin, the Indian Hill doctor who finished second to Paul Hackett in last year's special primary; and Gaby Downey, a Milford High School civics teacher and former Miami University basketball star who is running for office for the first time. If that happens, the other three are not likely to be happy campers- the mighty Thor Jacobs, who has raised a considerable amount of money and actually has paid campaign staffers; Jim Parker of Pike County, who has burned up so much gasoline criss-crossing the seven-county district that drilling for oil in ANWR may become absolutely necessary, and Jeff Sinnard, the stay-at-home dad who nonetheless shows up wherever two or more Democrats are gathered.

The fun starts at 7 p.m. Bring a helmet.

Victoria Wulsin, the Indian Hill doctor who finished second to Paul Hackett in last year's special primary

...is up to her neck with Dr. Heimlich's illicit human experiments, injecting indigent African AIDS victims with malaria.

A national magazine published the story, but the Enquirer won't? What's wrong with this picture?

Tim Burke, the CityLink Lawyer is suddenly supporting Dale Mallory?

That isn't shocking, but it is some good breaking news.

Dale Mallory sold out his community for this endorsement. He has been impeached by his own community, yet the CityLink lawyer wants him to get the big prize.

Dale Mallory couldn't run for Dog Catcher in the West End and win. The man is finished in this community. We don't need anyone else connected with Genesis to try to rule with thug power.

Robert Killins is the new President of the West End Community Council. Genesis days are over, and Dale's days should be over as well.

If anybody who lives in Hamilton, Warren or Clermont Counties is looking for something to do tonight, I hope that you will attend this event.

It will be held at the Norwood Community Center on 1810 Courtland Avenue. The meeting starts at 7:00 pm.

Tonight, I only get 3 short minutes to speak and I am going to tell it like it is...

You see, I've made a promise to a whole lot of people who live between Waverly and Cincinnati. And I'll be d!@$@^%@$mned if I am going to just let one political bad decision destroy the hope that I have given them in their lives. NO WAY! Not without a fight.

Jim Parker, MBA/MHA
Democratic Candidate for US Congress

A Different Kind of Democrat - ONE WHO CAN WIN

I heard John Cranley and Cecil Thomas have both endorsed Thor. It's interesting that the party would stand opposite to them in their choice of who's most viable.

Also, wasn't a member of Victoria Wulsin's staff on the screening committee?

Jim, Jim you just don't learn.

Bucking heads with the honorable Burke is suicide.

Honorable Burke was there when no one else was.

He was there when Springer was just a dream.

Burke has gained more respect in one day than you will in a lifetime, period.

First, you want to fight with bloggers, now you want to carpetbag your campaign and fight with our county party ELECTED leaders ?

Your not real bright are you !

Perhaps, to much sun penetrating that comb over !

I'll be there tonight !

Signed,

the blogger you attempted to suck up to.

Mayor Mallory basically told the Party he'd campaign against Greg Harris if they endorsed him against his underqualified and unemployed little brother. Harris spared the Party this infighting by withdrawling his name from consideration. Fortunately Eve Bolton refused to be bullied, although you now see that Tim Burke is already saying Dale Mallory should be endorsed over Eve even though Eve is far more qualified.

The Mallory team can raise the money, but, the little brother is an embarassment.

Eve is much more qualified.

It is a shame because we are going to lose this seat to a well funded (R)wrong winger.

Thank you for that last comment. The decision to endorse nobody was fair. I will keep up the fight.

Only in a racist, bass ackward place like Hamilton County is Pepper a "no brainer" choice over Stephanie Dumas.

If the Enquirer spent more time covering her candidacy the way they should instead of ignoring her according to the wishes of Papa Peppers deep pockets and cronies then maybe we could actually have an election with truly "fair and balanced reporting" in this county.

You make me sick.

With all do respect. The party made their decision about who to endorse.

She had the opportunity to state her case and did not receive the support.

I was just a spectator and I have to agree with their decision.

All she needs to do is convince the voters on May 2.

Certainly, Mallory overcame the lack of some important endorsements.

I saw her presentation and was not impressed. I would question temperment ?

So, it was a little more than the wrong wing fishwrap.

The goal is a seat on the commisssion.

Pepper can get the funds to beat that hindlick maneuver

I guess we're supposed to be surprised that the Democrats endorsed white man David Pepper and left the black candidate hung out to try. Democrats don't seem to like having black people represent them in high profile races like County Commissioner.

Dumas can still win, though black Democrats for once will have to stop doing what they're told by their white leaders, and turn out for her. The last time David Pepper played the "Vote for me because I'm white card", the result was Mayor Mark Mallory. Pepper's money and race-based appeals hardly guarantee him victory.

Go take your pitty me, I'm black story someplace else.

It is not selling here.

It is not the color of her skin that defeated her.

If she is such an asset, she should have no truoble finding alternatives.

Can she raise a million bucks ?

Hindlick can, and so can Pepper.

No one wants to hear your feel sorry for me, I'm a black little girl.

Black is not the only minority.

I certainly don't see many blacks at the Democratic forums.

Get out your people and let them speak up. Work for change.

I for one, as native american, have no guilt or ax to grind.

Pepper made the better presentation, period !
