Weidman changes mind about seat

Sycamore Township Trustee Tom Weidman took out petitions to run for Hamilton County Commission, because he was "disgusted" by Commissioners Todd Portune and David Pepper's attempts to raise the sales tax to pay for a new jail.

But as the filing deadline draws near, Weidman says he's changed his mind. He wants to continue to focus on Sycamore Township in 2008 and running for another office detract from that, he said.

Here's what he e-mailed to the Enquirer:

"Prior to the November elections, I began receiving a significant number of requests by various elected officials and prominent Republicans in the county, to consider a run for County Commissioner against Todd Portune. I left on a 18 day trip out of the country two days after the election, and when I returned I met with various political and business advisors. This seemed like a great opportunity, as I was just as disgusted as the voters were with the Portune/Pepper team for shoving a tax down the throats of the Hamilton County citizens that was three times the size they rejected just months before. And only now do we find out that this was nothing more than a shell game, in an effort to camouflage the across the board deficiencies in their county budget.

In Sycamore Township, we are experiencing substantial business and retail redevelopment in the Kenwood area, and there are a few projects that I am committed to seeing through to completion. As a business President, I am committed to continuing the growth my company has demonstrated over the past 21 years, and increasing penetration into new foreign markets.
While I am flattered and honored with the degree of interest in me as a County Commissioner Candidate, at this time a campaign running nearly a year would compromise the commitments I have to the residents of Sycamore Township and to my business. It is for those reasons that I have decided not to run for County Commissioner in 2008."

So this means, Portune is basically unopposed, allowing the Dems to focus on taking out Dewhiner. I love it!

Even more Repugs are going down!

A good chunk of the money Portune raised will actually go to Harris. And a good chunk of new Berding staffer Shawn Baker's time will also go to the Harris campaign. Too boot, the biz community refuses to help Dewine this time around. The Dem's are undertaking an unprecedented coordinated effort to take out DeWine, and Portune (and Berding) are emerging as the new king makers.

"...at this time a campaign running nearly a year would compromise the commitments I have to the residents of Sycamore Township and to my business..."

The truth be told, the wRong wingnut whacko realized he doesn't have a snow balls chance in ****, PERIOD !

Else, it would be the typical wRong wingnut whacko running their month, jumping to conclusions before considering the real landscape !

So, when he initially decided, he didn't have the responsibilities with the township or the plans to seek foreign markets ?

wRong !

PATHETIC "HypocRite" !

HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2008 !

Re 9:51 a.m.
Isn't Ed Rothenberg planning to run against Portune?

Tom "the jail's going to be in Colerain Township" Weidman couldn't tell the truth if you paid him.

What really happened is he was shown the same GOP poll everyone else has seen - that Todd Portune is as strong as ever and not beatable in 2008. That Todd has strong Republican and West Side support, especially for a Democrat, because they respected his leadership on a tough issue. (These groups were strong supporters of Issue 27, as the election results show). And that Democrats continue to like Todd as much as they ever have, just as they voted for Qualls, Cranley, Crowley, etc., all of whom also supported Issue 27.

So Tom realized that Republicans, the majority of whom voted for Issue 27, respected Todd for supporting it, and Democrats, who may not have voted for it, will still vote for Todd because of his long history of leadership (and wouldn't dream of crossing party lines to vote for a GOP Heimlich crony from Sycamore Township).

Tom's bitter whining as he crawls back to Sycamore says it all.

As for the budget mess, even Moody's is clear that it was caused by the Commissioner who's reelection campaign Tom chaired---Phil Heimlich.

Yep...Eddie is supposed to last we heard be running against TP, but from a different political party.

One can only always shake their head and wring their hands of all of this political running stuff.

We have termn limits but all that means is that I will take your seat and you take mine, OK?

Then we have primaries that unless you live in Iowa and maybe NH all those political hacks could care less about allowing The Birthplace of Presidents..Ohio..a chance to have meaningful representation in this year's Ohio primary election and make a difference for USA Prez, huh?

Of course the local theatre is to do sound bytes and take out petitions and do press follow ups about why he or she will not run.

But the kicker is like the former Congressmen that run, get elected, and resign.

Then, we taxpayers have to hold a special election which in the past has cost more than the salary of that congressmember for an entire year.

Then they all preach how they will spend your tax dollar's wisely while spending at times quadruple with their cronies to get them elected.

In the real world, if you did that your biz would fold up really quick.

Oh, yeh...Happy New Year to all and to all a good night!!!
