Brinkman joins the race for 2nd Congressional District

Cincinnati, OH - State Representative Tom Brinkman today filed a notice with the Federal Election Commission that he is a candidate for Ohio's 2nd Congressional District.

In his seven-year career as a State Representative, Brinkman was twice voted "Most Principled" legislator by members of the media, the Governor's staff, and his own colleagues in the House.

"It will be my goal to earn the same honor in Washington D.C.," Brinkman said.Brinkman's record also includes winning the Family First "Champion" Award for his leadership on pro-family issues, including legislation promoting adoption and other pro-life causes, his efforts to make higher education more affordable for families, and his work defending the institution of marriage.

But perhaps his most well-known achievement, even among Democrats and environmentalists, was his leadership in eliminating the highly unpopular "E-Check" program.

"I promised to eliminate E-Check, and when I got to Columbus, I delivered on that promise. I will represent Ohioans in Washington as I have for eight years in Ohio, by pushing for common sense in government."

Brinkman takes his job as a representative of the people, and his promises to his constituents very seriously. Over the span of his seven-year career as a State Representative, he has maintained an active presence within the community and has never voted for a tax increase.

Tom Brinkman, age 50, a lifelong resident of Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District, resides in Mt. Lookout with his wife and six children. He is currently serving his fourth term in the Ohio House of Representatives.

Once again, the anti-Schmidters set themselves up for failure. Look for them to split the vote and Jean skates again.

Finally some good news out of this district. Schmidt is a walking disaster and Heimlich blew his chance. Brinkman has always stood for responsible spending, lower taxes, and stands up to the special interests. I won't have to think twice in supporting Brinkman.

Go Tom! Finally, a candidate people will rally behind.

at 12:06 AM, December 13, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Brinkman never seems to learn. Jean Schmidt wins a one on one primary race against Heimlich, hands down. But against both Phil and Tom, Jean should have a relatively easy time of it. Not that the race will be squeaky clean--it won't be, especially now that Brinkman has leaped into the fray.

Check out the November Columbus Monthly magazine ratings of members of the lower Ohio house. Tom didn't do very well, to say the least. And he and Phil won't do very well in March when the 93-lb marathon runner from Loveland bounces them out of the Second District race and turns to face the hapless Democrat in November.

at 12:43 AM, December 13, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Brinkman has no money, compared to Heimlich's mountain of cash.

Brinkman doesn't have the support that Heimlich has throughout the district.

Brinkman was a horrible legislator in the Statehouse.

Brinkman has baggage that Heimlich doesn't - ala the comments Judge Ruehlman made about Brinkman. Brinkman may have not been indicted, but we can all see the 30 second campaign ad that the Dems will use against him.

Great. 2 hate-filled angry white male COAST hacks are going to spew their talk-radio venom at our Congresswoman for the next 10 weeks. All they will do is give the Democrat candidate fodder for their camappign against Jean Schmidt. We can thank Brinkman and Heimlich when this seat goes D.

I do believe that Mr. Gloyd's use of his Coldwell Banker e-mail address for campaign purposes is a violation of the campaign laws as it is considered a corporate donation from Coldwell Banker. Perhaps in this run, Mr. Brinkman and his campaign workers will adhere to the same campaign laws they seek to hold everyone else to.

at 11:09 AM, December 13, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Brinkman just doesn't get it! He has been totally ineffective as a legislator. What bills has he passed? Oh, I forgot, the great emissions bill! In how many years? And just where does he rank in the list of effective state reps? The only two things for which Tom Brinkman has a passion and for which he'll actually work are slandering Jean Schmidt and repressing the gays. That's a pretty sorry agenda if you ask me. But what can you expect from a member of the Coast cult. Get a real job Tom and why you at it get a life.

I don't know Brinkman, but he would have to be an improvement over Jean "Hang Onto Your Headband" Schmidt. Besides sticking her foot/feet in her mouth on more than one occasion, what is one thing that she has done? She is the nearest-nothing elected official we have ever had to represent the Second Congressional District (she certainly does NOT represent my views). She's about as worthless as a tit on a bore hog.

Congratulations Jean. You just won.

Thanks guys! Brilliant move.

Phil has about as good a chance to buy the 2ndCD election as DeWine did in '05.

Jean's as embarrassing as ever and no one seems to care that our representative is the most ineffectual joke in DC.

Thank God someone is now running who will bring some ability, character and integrity back to our congressional seat.

GO BRINKMAN!!

Why the Harlow Hate?

What did either or both ever do to you?

Or anyone else who has posted such comments?

Please, share it with all of us. It must be good for you to be hating on them for so long.

What is it? Money? Power? Sex? Someone sure seems upset about something big.

ADWD, don't kid yourself. If you do a victory dance next November, you will have gotten smart, switched parties and will be celebrating Jean Schmidt's latest election triumph.

"Hadenough," your crude and classless comment clearly indicates your Democrat roots. It also reveals your ignorance of the good Congresswoman's achievements in DC. She serves her constituents in the Second District well. They know it, they are loyal to her and they will give her yet another election victory in November, her fifth in a row since June, 2005.

at 8:52 PM, December 13, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

"Principled", what a joke. Look at the COAST website and the blatant lies about commissioners pepper and portune concerning the use of public money for abortions.

Anybody who hangs with Finney, Miller, and DeWine is guilty by association and at the very least creepy.

at 8:55 PM, December 13, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is this the same Brinkman who held a press conference in Campbell County with DeWine about housing county inmates in KY, but then could not get the legislation passed at the state?

at 9:24 PM, December 13, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Michael Harlow would be an improvement for the usual caliber of people Brinkman has working for him.

at 10:35 PM, December 13, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sorry, but am I supposed to know who this Jason Gloyd fellow is?

Brinkman I know. He's loony. Jean Schmidt will split the Heimlich/Brinkman vote and win easily.

GREAT. Just what we need, another dadgum primary where Jean screams and cackles about being a marathoner. I guess Mean Jean will call Hamilton County Attack Dog, Matt Perrin. I can't wait to see that jerk back in the game slandering Tom and Phil, two decent anti-tax fighters.

Please, Vic, take Mean Jean out!

Dear Hamilton County Democrats, Republicans and Independents,

Earlier this year, I sent an invitation to every single candidate that is running for Congress in Ohio's 2nd District asking them to participate in a candidate's forum. Every single candidate said "YES" except for two.

The intent of the forum was to allow Democrats, Republicans and Independents to share the same stage in the same room at the same time and to have more than a minute to tell us what they plan to do for this country. I wanted the candidates to have more than 60 seconds to provide answers to questions about their specific positions on the important issues that are facing America today. If we are ever going to truly find people who are both interested in solving and qualified to solve the challenges that face our country today then we need to get past all the political garbage floating around out there and get down to the serious business of what exactly our candidates plan to do for America and for Southern Ohio if they are elected to Congress.

Last year, I ran for Congress and, as a political outsider who spent nearly nothing, won two counties and came in second place almost all the way to Cincinnati. We won Pike and Scioto Counties and came in second in Warren, second in Clermont and second in Brown Coutnies. I met thousands of the nicest people that I've ever met in my life and have no regrets for giving my best effort to the people of Southern Ohio. My political service has only just begun. If a Democrat does not win the Ohio 2nd District in 2008, I do someday plan to try again.

www.JimPARKER4ad.blogspot.com

So far as the candidate's forum that I proposed, it was to be held in Clermont County. All candidates were invited. Following are their responses to date:

Randy Longbottom - Independent - YES.

Tom Brinkman - Republican - YES.

Phil Heimlich - Republican - DID NOT RESPOND.

Jean Schmidt Republican - DID NOT RESPOND.

Jeff Sinnard - Democrat - YES.

Victoria Wulsin - YES.

Steve Black - Democrat - YES.

Please encourage Jean Schmidt and Phil Heimlich to respond. They can contact me via e-mail at PARKERforCongress@msn.com or they can call us at 740-947-1647.

Although I am not a candidate right now, my heart is and always will be with the people of Southern Ohio.

We need to have all candidates participate in open discussions, not just some. Encourage your candidate of choice to participate and respond to the invitation. Thank you.

Jim Parker
Future Democratic Candidate for US Congress

Brinkman's Campbell County bill not passing shows what a joke he is. He had press conferences on the thing, grandstanded on it, used it as a reason to beat up on Issue 27, and you'd think it'd get through pretty easily. In his final term, he can't even get that done.

Mr Gloyd: Does the fact that you use your Caldwell Bankers e-mail address in the press release mean that Caldwell Bankers is endorsing Tom Brinkman? Isn't this a violation of campaign policies for you to do this?

Unlike rats, they're not too smart, politically speaking. If they were half as intelligent and savvy as they think they are, they would quit fighting our Congresswoman, leave Brinkman to twist slowly, slowly in the wind and try to be a unifying force in SW Ohio Republican politics.

I can only think of one person who fits the following criteria:

- has Internet access day and night

- is a political junkie

- has suffered personal and professional setbacks at the hands of other Republicans, including some who are tied to COAST

- has consistently opposed Capell and COAST on intraparty matters, such as Issue 27

- has publicly stated to other political junkies and members of the local media that certain operatives in the Republican Party "have it in for me"

- has publicly complained to the above that said operatives like to snitch to the Blower about him, too

- is close to former Heimlich opponent David Pepper

- is close to people who work for Jean Schmidt

- has a lot of time on his hands due to recent job/election losses

Most people on this blog know exactly who I am talking about. I am not going to give him or his new bride the satisfaction of seeing their name on here, though.

Anonymous at 11:02, 12/15, as a long-time RINO, you mean. Voting for ANY of the Democrats is self-destructive, assuming 1) you want to pay more taxes, 2) you want the US to surrender in Iraq, turn tail and run, 3) you want Iran to get nukes and totally destabilize the entire Middle East, 4) you hate human life so much you want the destruction of human babies in the womb by any means including partial-birth abortion to continue unabated, 5) you desire to see our nation become a bilingual society with unlimited, open borders,
6) you actually want a universal health care system set up on the British or Canadian models, 7) you want law-abiding citizens disarmed so that the only individuals possessing firearms will be criminals and police, 8) you want God removed from the national motto, from the currency, from all federal, state and local governmental buildings, from all national monuments and from all federal cemeteries, 9) you actually want the ACLU, NARAL, NAMBLA, and the various homosexual pressure groups to have free rein in determining domestic political and social policy and 10) you want more judges on the Supreme and Appellate courts like Ginsberg and the yahoos on San Francisco's 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. If this is the kind of government and nation and society and politics you desire, for pete's sake quit calling yourself a Republican and start billing yourself as a stalwart member of the Jackass Party. In other words, shape up or ship out to the left side of the aisle.

You continue to support tax hiker Jean Schmidt, even against candidates who don't support all of her tax increases. Who are you to lecture someone about voting for tax-hiking Democrats when you openly support tax-hiking Republicans?

SLT, who am I to lecture you Jean-haters? I'm somebody with the common sense to vote for the best candidate. Is she perfect? Of course not, but she's the best by far.

BS in Bold, your "revelation" about auto license plate numbers and IP addresses may be accurate. But that does not grant you the right to use that information as a hammer to threaten others posting on this or any other blog. Your silly name-calling and brain-dead ramblings about elephant droppings and the like is irritating and utterly useless, like so much of the crap that comes from doctinaire dem/libs. But if you begin posting threats, you are moving into forbidden waters.
