Kearney pushes for earlier primary, again
State Sen. Eric H. Kearney, a Democrat from North Avondale, renewed his call Thursday for Ohio to move up the date of its presidential primary from March 4 to Jan. 29, 2008.
Kearney, who introduced Senate Bill 202 earlier this year to change Ohio’s presidential primary date, said it’s not too late for Ohio to be "more relevant" to the primary process, citing the recent changes in the presidential primary dates for Montana and Connecticut.
"As it stands now, when Ohioans go to the polls in March the outcome of the primary race will already be decided," Kearney said. "Changing our primary date to January 29 places the proper amount of importance on Ohio’s voters."
Michigan moved the date of its presidential primary date to Jan. 15.
And the Montana Republican Party and Connecticut moved up the dates of their primaries to Feb. 5. Montana’s original primary date was June 3. Connecticut’s was the same as Ohio's, March 4.
Kearney said Ohioans should feel like their votes matter during the primary cycle.
"Just as in 2004, our state has once again been named a battleground state with electoral significance. It's not too late for Ohio to have a meaningful role in electing the next President."

Go away, Kearney. Nobody cares what you think.
well we know he does not respond to many Ohio voters, but his idea is well...very well.
As it is now the primary system in Ohio sucks for Presidental races...so if you wanna vote for Prez, you should relocate to Iowa, NH, NV, SC, and anywhere else.
Ehy did E. get trounced for this idea months ago>
I'd like to see Strickland and the Dems pull a fast one on the Repugnicants. If they move the primary up, they won't have as much time to plan how to steal the election. It's time to grow a spine and start standing up to these election-stealing, Constitution-shredding, job-killing, money-laundering, children-starving scumbags in the other party.
would it kill you to mention that Kearney is a visible Obama supporter? Maybe that has something to do with why he cares so much?
George W. Bush crushed your loser candidate John Skerry by 100,000 votes in Ohio. Suck on it, moonbat.
it has been proven time and again that the various chicanery, from underservin Democratic precincts, to the wholesale removal of African-Americans from the rolls, to so-called machine errors, robbed Senator Kerry of at least 200,000 votes and it robbed the American people of their legitimately elected leader for 4 more years.
You can't chang the date of an election this late. None of the board of elections could handle it at this opint. Kearney better provide the funding if he's serious about this.
moving our primary date would make no difference. Iowa and New Hampshire and maybe California are the main states for primaries and always will be. Ohio is important enough seeing that one has to win Ohio to win the Presidency.

Off topic, BUT:
Just viewed This Week with George, Channel 9 (9-10 AM).
Huckabee would be an excellent candidate for the wRong wingnut whackos !
Even with the tide moving in the right (Democratic) direction, Huckabee could surprise the populace.
We can only hope the wRong wingnut whackos remain asleep at the wheel !
PATHETIC 'family values' !
HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2008 !
Im glad we have at least one state official who is pushing Ohio to the national stage where we should be. In the future, its clear that almost all states in the country will have their primaries in January. We might as well get the most benefit from the move by doing it as soon as possible. Great idea! Thanks for all you do, Senator!
