Committees: Pretty Much Status Quo
Mayor Mark Mallory announced today which council members will lead which committees.
Mostly, it'll be the same after the swearing-in Saturday as it is now:
Chris Bortz: economic development
Laketa Cole: neighborhoods
Jeff Berding: rules
Cecil Thomas: law
John Cranley: finance
Two changes: Chris Monzel, who's now chairman of the education committee, moves to Arts, Culture, Tourism, Marketing, & Technology; and Vice Mayor David Crowley takes Education, Health & Environment.
There was some tinkering with the topics in each committee, too. Technology was added to arts, health went with education and environment, and recreation switched to Cole's Vibrant Neighborhoods, Recreation & Public Services.
Monzel's the only Republican with a committee chairmanship. Bortz is the only Charterite with one.
Roxanne Qualls remains chairwoman of council's only subcommittee - Transportation & Infrastructure. It's a subcommittee of the finance, economic development and neighborhoods committees.

Does anyone else see a problem with Chris Bort$ of Town properties running its Economic Development Committee? Can we say conflict of interest?
While it looks like a big snub to Qualls, at least it is a driving interest of hers.
The one who really got snubbed was Leslie Ghiz. Thank you!
You read it hear first: Crowley will run for School Board in 2 years.
Leave it up to Mallory not to give Council Member Leslie Ghiz a Chair role once again this time around. We need to get Mallory out of office sooner than later. He smells like a skunk. Sorry, Council Member Leslie Ghiz, we love you!
Congratulations to on your marriage and second Council term.
Thanks Anonymous, 9:34 pm November 29. Said it all along, it started with Arnie Bortz when he was on council. The saga continues along with all the property they're scarfing up and $$$'s.
None of us will ever be able to afford the price they're asking for their condos. There should not be tax abatements. If people can afford to buy the property, they can dam well afford to pay the taxes. Rich get richer and poor - well, you know what I mean.
Behind the "good" job he's doing for the city, his primary interest is still the family interest. Check out his full time job with Towne Properties in his disclosure statement and also note his salary.
His name is Arn Bortz and you need to also look at the things that Towne Properties has done for downtown Cincinnati. Think about what would be downtown. There would be 1/3 of the people living in downtown directly effecting the the amount of taxes paid to the city, cutting down on the city's revenue which directly effects the amount of money spent on parks, human services, economic developement, public safety and development. There may be some profit for Towne Properties but there also was alot of risk on their part, standing up and beleiving in a city that when they believed in it,few others did.
Are you serious? Town never builds a thing in this city without a government subsidy!
I'm glad to see that Crowley got eduaction...maybe he can pass a resolution comdeming the President from that committee too!
Towne Properties has done good things for the City but we need the Bortz family to lead the way in investing in our declining TRADITIONAL neighborhoods. Westwood, Price Hill, Evanston, Walnut Hills, Northside, etc. all are in need of private investment to rehab the scores of vacant homes and storefronts. This will create strong neighborhoods and these strong neighborhood achieve:
(1) less crime (bad guys hang around blight)
(2) AFFORDABLE owner-occupied housing
(3) increased populations adding to the tax base
(4) the return of the much needed neighborhood schools
(5) more incentive for out of town companies to relocate here.
(6) job, jobs, and more jobs (and not the goofy government created short term jobs)
Towne Properties, take this next step...

Okay - so you lost the race. However, ALL the comments you make in these blogs sound like you are getting an early campaign start for the next election. It also sounds like you are trying to kiss someone's _ss. Enough already! Everyone in favor say "aye".
To Anonymous 3:20 Dec.5 (above).
You are somewhat correct. I do plan to run again. Living in a city that has fallen upon hard times greatly bothers me. I have lived in Cincinnati since 1972 and I have seen the good with the bad. I want the best for my adult children and grandchild. I prefer "the most livable" city, not the "third poorest". I wish for safe streets, not "Cincinnati, the 16th most dangerous city". The voters chose to return the original nine to office (not me) and I respect that. But I can do my share at this time in private life to help move the City forward. (and I hope you will join me). As for "kissing up", you surely do not know me very well.

YAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNN!
Your 15 minutes of near-fame are up. Feel free to come back in 2 years. Until then, buh-bye!
I certainly hope that Pavelish comes back in two years! That's the type of change we need in this city. He has some wonderful ideas.
