Crowley's anti-Iraq war message

Here's a campaign mail piece that had to be pretty carefully targeted, we're guessing:

Democratic incumbent David Crowley sent one out last week that deals not with crime, or neighborhood, or even the Banks project, but the war in Iraq.

The cover features a close-up shot of Crowley supporter Jody Grundy of Clifton, the mother of Major David Grundy, an emergency medicine physician who, as a U.S. Army reservist, is about to do his third deployment in Iraq.

"Our whole family believes strongly in service, including military service when necessary,'' Jody Grundy says in the mailer. "We are grateful for the service of our troops and we support them. But endless war and repeated deployments do not support our troops."

Crowley, she says, is the "one local official (who) has had the courage to speak out strongly against the war from the very start."

Crowley, a U.S. Navy veteran, caused a stir in city hall when he introduced a resolution to put council on record as being opposed to the troop surge in Iraq. It passed on a 5-4 vote.

"I served my country in the Navy and I support military men and women like David Grundy,'' Crowley says in the mail piece. "But I also recognize that war comes at a great price to local communities. In addition to the tragedy of losing young men and women, wars redirect federal resources away from local priorities. Social services, infrastructure investment and local law enforcement all suffer."

Crowley broadcasts why he shouldn't be re-elected. The city has problems that can't be solved w/o much greater leadership. Crowley was elected to help run this city, but he insists on spending his time debating matters that have nothing to do with Cincinnati City Council.

Even if Crowley gets re-elected, it'll be great to see term limits kick him out of office. We need 9 Councilmen who will put Cincinnati first.

Crowley's meanigless resolution was against the surge, not the war. He didn't have the courage to make it against the war. That's why it was a complete waste of time, except it did show us that Bortz, Berding, Monzel and Ghiz are all Neocons.

I like Crowley as a person, but he's such an incompetent Council member. We are about to re-elect someone who after six years cannot point to any achievements on Council. No, he simply wants his voters to know he oppossed the war in Iraq. BFD.

This is a prime example of why nothing is accomplished quickly at City Hall. They spend their day passing resolutions that have no bearing on the business of the City. We should ONLY elect council members that are in the race for the good of the city and not for the good of their political lives. Tomorrow think about voting for the following:

Leslie Ghiz
Jeff Berding
Laketa Cole
Chris Bortz
John Cranley
John Eby
Greg Harris
Pat Fischer
Chris Monzel

Mr Crowley was the only No vote when a resolution was made by Cincinnati City council NOT to free Reaves, the killer of Cincinnati Police Officer, David Cole.

Why doesn't Crowley EVER talk about what he's ACCOMPLISHED to make Cincinnati better, safer, and cheaper to live in?

Rhetorical question, I know.

David, worry about the war you CAN control, the one being waged by drug dealers and gun toting criminals on the streets of Cincinnati !

Why is so hard for people to understand that WARS COST MONEY. And since the federal government isnt raising taxes, the money is coming from state and local governments (and from the next generation, thanks to the record deficit).

To answer your question about war the resolution is relevant, just try READING. Its right there at the end of the post:

"In addition to the tragedy of losing young men and women, wars redirect federal resources away from local priorities. Social services, infrastructure investment and local law enforcement all suffer."

It's hard, I know, for some Cincinnatians to recognize that they are part of a larger world. It's hard for some people to realize that there's something more than their side of town.

What State or Local money has the Federal Government confiscated?

too bad he chose Jody Grundy- who never did a thing politically until Kerry and now acts as if she's queen of the party
also, given her albino like appearance the piece couldn't have been too attractive
but Crowley's done a lot through the years, he just doesn't grandstand like the other jerks
I'll take his record anyday over Berddung's and ColeHole's
