Ex-Pepper manager appointed to governor's job

Greg Landsman, campaign manager to David Pepper during the Hamilton County commissioner's 2005 race for Cincinnati mayor, has been appointed to a state job by Gov. Ted Strickland.

Landsman, 30, of Wilmington is the new director of the Governor's Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives, a job that pays $75,000 annually.

Landsman, a native of Cincinnati and one-time congressional aide to Strickland and House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi, most recently worked as director of special projects with the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.

Landsman, a former teacher who got his master's degree from Harvard Divinity School in 2004, replaces Eric McFadden, who took a job as volunteers administrator with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Shortly after McFadden's February appointment as director, he noticed unusual expenditures in the Office of Faith Based Initiatives, which resulted in an audit and Inspector General's investigation.

More details about Landsman can be found here:

Maybe Scott Gehring's wife can use her Pepper connections to get him the job at the Freedom Center. it is not as if Councilwoman Bates could ever hire him.

sorry- 30 year olds with make-work jobs shouldn't be "earning" $75K off the taxpayers in one of the slowest-growing states in the union.

You should clarify that Landsman managed Pepper's $1 million losing campaign for mayor.

This is a good role for Landsman based on his education and experience. A good thing for Ohio too. Glad to see it.

See, that's the difference between Democrats and Repugs. the Repugs would hire a 25-yr-old whose Daddy gave lots of cash t the GOP, pay him twice as much, and then we'd learn he was a pedophile.

It was a $1.2 million dollar loss.

What does Gehring's wife have to do with this? Also, it's not Landsman's fault that Pepper lost. It all worked out in the end anyways. I know Landsman, and he is a stand up guy with great qualifications. He is worth the salary.

Greg is a class-act with exceptional talent and skill. Strickland made a great choice. Best of luck Greg. Cincinnati is lucky to have you in Columbus.

Addressing Anonymous at 6:16pm about: "sorry- 30 year olds with make-work jobs shouldn't be "earning" $75K off the taxpayers in one of the slowest-growing states in the union.
"

That is the dumbest comment I have seen in a while. Age has nothing to do with salary. Just because Greg is potentially making more than you does not mean his salary his too high. He went to Harvard, is a smart, nice guy. If I were him I am not sure I would take just $75k. That is a low figure given the high caliber talent he brings, no matter how old he is.

Scott Gehring's wife, Jennifer Winkelman is now Treasurer to her husband's State Representative run for 2008. How pathetic that Mr. Gehring is supposed to be Melanie Bates' campaign manager, but is too busy running his own. Interesting too that Gehring's wife is working for Hamilton County Commissioner David Pepper and now working for a Democrat himself. Mr. Gehring may be switching from Republican to Democrat. I would watch this race closely in 2008. It will also be interesting to see what the Westsiders do for voting. Driehaus' sister is running and we know Steve did nothing for the Westside in his years of State Representative. Come on Republican Party, put in a stronger candidate who can win back this seat! Ask Pete Witte or John Eby (If he is unsuccessful taking a Cincinnati City Council Member's seat this week. SIDE NOTE: We certainly hope he does!)

Thank goodness, Council Member Leslie Ghiz ditched him! GO GHIZ AND EBY!

what does being smart and nice have to do with the value of the position in the marketplace in a state with such incredible economic challenges?

I hope Landsman shares some of his largesse with you.

Landsman is a great guy and deserving of the job, but he was not Pepper's campaign manager for the Commissioners' race. He was Pepper's campaign manager for the Mayor's race.

Get your facts straight Enquirer.

Congrats to Landsman!

I'm confused- thought Landsman was Jewish, if so a degree in divinity seems a bit odd

I bet that Anons 6:16PM & 1:33PM didn't have a problem with all of the quid pro quo republican appointies that Taft dolled out.

political hacks are unwelcome on either side of the political fence. Time to end the gravy train of patronage and politically connected bilking the taxpayers dry.

Greg Landsman thinks he's hot....and just like in 2005....writes most of these posts himself...

Greg is very hot. Who ever wrote the Nov. 5th post is just ugly and jealous. Probably short, bald and chubby too.

Greg is also smart and very talented.

Non sequiturs abound.

But back to Landsman: "Director of Special Projects at the NURFC?" Gee, I wonder who got him that job? Could it be- JOHN PEPPER?!

"Sorry you and $1 million couldn't get my son crowned King of Cincinnati, Greg. Take this make-work job at the Freedom Center - I'll make sure City Council throws money at the problem so your salary is assured!

God forbid Mr. Craig include THAT tidbit in his post
