'The gates of hell'

Sherry Coolidge reports:

More than three dozen members of the NAACP gathered outside the Hamilton County Courthouse this morning where they rallied against a sales tax increase to build a new jail and fund public safety programs voters are being asked to approve Nov. 6.

The group was at the courthouse to watch the trial of Marc Frison, a 34-year-old Sycamore Township man accused of trying to sneak a knife into the courthouse in August.

Frison has been jailed on $100,000 bond since Aug. 7, which the NAACP says is unjust. Frison’s trial was continued until Nov. 13.

“Do we need a bigger and badder jail?” Cincinnati NAACP President Christopher Smitherman asked the crowd. “No,” the crowd shouted back.”

“We don’t have a million dollars, but on Nov. 6 we will have victory,” Smitherman said. “Then, on Nov. 13 we’ll walk Marc Frison right out of the gates of hell.”

There are some really odd bedfellows on both sides of this jail tax issue.

You have Smitherman and the more radical element of the NAACP, the hard core, self-proclaimed radical Republicans, The Police Union, and Dewine all opposed.

On the other side is Leis, Deters, Business Groups, Democratic and Republican Party, Hardliners who think everyone should be in jail, Mental Health/Drug Abuse Professional Counselers and their clients, the State Attorney General. etc.

Amazing.

According to some people's logic, we should change the laws so that bringing a knife into the courthouse isn't illegal anymore. That will solve the jail problem.

Anonymos said at 2:56PM 10/30 - i don't know if your a smart ass or what, but if you have good advice to give then give it. Otherwise just shut up and vote NO on 27. To me it would seem people like you are a bigger part of the problem here in Cincinnati than you realize. The Enquirer has an editorial in todays paper that puts the focus where it needs to be delt with, in the business comunity, where the answers are free and the possiblities are endless.

I don't want the tax to pass. I wish Smitherman & his version of the NAACP would come out in support of it!

A guy who tries to sneak a steak knife into the courthouse deserves to be in jail. Even if you are opposed to the tax, you have to admit that.

Apparently, Smitherman does not.

What a disgrace to the NAACP.

Some on other blogs here have advocated that instead of properly addressing the jail issue via the passage of Issue 27, that we instead make getting high legal. Less laws on the books means less people going to jail. Sooooo, using that logic (?), we should take off the books any law that anoyone complains about, especially in instances where someone has gotten busted violating said law. That way we remove all personal accountability and place the onus completely on society. If you mess up, it's my fault.

Do I sound like a smart ass in saying all that? Possibly. But don't blame me. It's most likely your fault.

BTW, my best advice would be to vote yes on Issue 27.

And stay in school.
And don't do drugs.
And keep the knives out of the courthouse.

Blithering idiot Smitherman: This is who COAST, Dewine, Brinkman, Finney, Jeff Capell, Jason Gloyd, FOP, Goering, etc. have aligned themselves with re: issue 27?! Wow.

next time ask how many of those members use Smitherman as their financial planner.

Was The Delegate there with a claw hammer "mistakenly forgotten" in his backpack (again)?

The point is the guy will be in jail for three months BEFORE he even gets to trial!

Sounds like we need to streamline court procedures not create more jail space to enable a inefficient judicial system.

Marc Frisson is a nut job who in the past has based his defense for previous crimes on the lack of authority of what he claimed was an illegal government. This time Frisson tried to sneak a t-handle marshal arts attack knife into court and got belligerent when the deputies found it. Justin Jeffery and Michael Patton ( candidates for council ) both support this guy.

Smitherman lowers the credibility of the NAACP with his showboating antics.

Ignore him and maybe he'll go away.

According to the Clerk of Courts, Mr. Frison is well acquainted with the Courthouse and, presumably, its policies regarding searches at the door. Just read Mr. Frison's storied history below:

No, we don't need a new jail. Sheesh - what a rap sheet.

It's always such a pick me up to laugh a little and peek inside the minds of those backward cincy values. Just from the post on this blog you all sound like a bunch of bored clueless housewives who have been preprogrammed by your overbearing husbands. Whoever posted all the ticket info. for 'Marc' seriously has some issues to work through. I would suggest getting a life. Your life is probably so boring even the cincy pigs wouldn't cite you for having fun.

Common Sense Voters, Criminals, Reformist, Progressives, and people who generally hate Cincinnati will be votting NO on 27.

Thanks for the afternoon laugh:)

Yeah, it is pretty funny, Smitherman using a dude with a rap sheet a mile long to show how we don't need a new jail.

Common Sense Voters, Criminals, Reformist, Progressives, and people who generally hate Cincinnati will be votting NO on 27.

So I guess you can count on about 6 vottes? Congrats!

"Common Sense Voters" & "Criminals" voting No!

That's beyond silly! Unless you believe criminals have common sense - yes?

Maybe a typo?

anon 3:59: it's called "information" and maybe if you werent an obvious Smitherman kool aid drinker you'd take more seriously Mr. Frison's recidivism.

it's called "click and drag," right click, "copy," and then "paste."

now is that too much work for YOU?

Local NAACP spokesmoron Chris Sillyman is a race pimp. He's only a minor league race pimp, however, so we can all laugh at his idiotic behavior without having to worry about any consequences.

I could CARE LESS how many times Mr Frison has been in trouble around Cincinnati. It doesn't take much for the nazi pig cops around here to find something wrong with anyone they want. To trust that the arresting officer in Cincinnati has even an ounce of common sense and dignity is a stretch at best.

Still laughing.....many of us are. We will laugh all the way to the voting booths.

Whats that, got something else to say.......

Still laughing! See you on election day.

Marc Frison needs to stay locked up.
More jail space is needed, but NOT ISSUE 27 !!! Vote on the jail alone, and leave off the political pork dressed up as "social programs."
