Qualls' Committees

This from former City Hall reporter Gregory Korte ....

Just how deferential are City Council members to their newest soon-to-be colleague, former Mayor Roxanne Qualls?

At a meeting with Enquirer reporters and editors Tuesday, Rules Committee Chairman Jeff Berding -- whose committee oversees committee assignments* -- said people shouldn't expect a wholesale reorganization of the committee structure.

"There's no rearranging. We're just going to put her on every committee she wants to be on," Berding said. "And I think she wants to be on every committee."

* This, of course, raises the question: Who decides who's on the Rules Committee?

Berding knows his days on council are numbered. Election day cometh.

Why isn't the Enquirer reporting on the protest outside Mean Jean's office yesterday?

Can Carl Weiser issue a statement about his editorial priorities? Yesterday the alternative media and the blogsphere picked up a release by Greg Harris taking on the tough issue of police reform. The Enquirer decided this wasn't newsworty, but on the front page of today's local section you talk about Nick Lachey doing a fundraiser for Justin Jeffre.

Mr. Weiser: Does the Enquirer plan to cover actual issues this election, or just fluff? And will you continue to focus on funds raised over issues raised? Just curious.

August 29 should be a day when all Repugnicants and their shills should stay home and reflect.

Reflect on the thousands of lives their corrupt and incompetent political patrons ended with their "response" to Hurricane Katrina.

Since they like church and Jesus so much, maybe they can spend the day on their knees in atonement for supporting the men and women who put profits and tax cuts for the wealthy ahead of hiring competent people who could function in a crisis.

August 29 is the day I became.... ExGOP

Is there a committee dedicated to ruining the Westside and the Riverfront like Qualls did as mayor?

Hey man, don't sell Roxanne short. She not only oversaw the ruin of the westside, but also actively campaigned for the stadiums. And her leadership laid the foundation for the riots.

Qualls helped usher in the destruction of the housing projects in the West End and the mass exodus to Westwood. Thanks Roxxy for destroying our neighborhoods.

Interesting point about Roxy and the riots. Most of the violence complained about by the african american community occured on her watch.

She responded typically. She did nothing.

It is difficult to imagine another person who comes close to her record...her awful record.

She most certainly DID do something! She inspired the CPD to march on City Hall in protest of her lack of support for them as a symbolic vote of no confidence.

Sounds like Roxxy is getting her due, but I doubt it will translate to the ballot box.

Shame.
