Lachey Helps Jeffre
Cincinnati City Council candidate Justin Jeffre gets some fund-raising help from his high school friend Nick Lachey, with whom he performed in the band 98 Degrees. Lachey will be here Saturday night, 7-9 p.m., at Club Bang downtown - and you can be too, for $20 at the door.
The event was announced today via an e-mail from Jason Haap, aka The Dean of Cincinnati. He and Jeffre work together on The Cincinnati Beacon blog and monthly newspaper.
Haap also says Jeffre has been endorsed by the Southwest Ohio Green Party. The party announced earlier that it had endorsed local NAACP President Christopher Smitherman for council, but Smitherman did not file last week to run.
"Nick Lachey is a great promoter for Cincinnati, and I am proud to have his support for my City Council campaign," Jeffre said in the e-mail. "I'm looking forward to engaging a debate about the issues facing our community."

If the Dean of Cincinnati is on your side, you know that you are a nutcase.
Nick Lachey is such a great promoter of Cincinnati as he lives in New York...er...Los Angeles..er...Las Vegas. Justin Jeffre should become one of Nick's posse and get the hell out of the 'Nati!
I'll pose the question:
Who is worse Jeffre or Garry?
Justin, looks like the wingnuts are really scared, so you must be doing something right. Even your naysayers have to admit that you bring new ideas into the arena. That's good for everyone, even the wingies.
Good luck with the benefit and it's great to see that Nick hasn't forgotten his roots!

That very same thought crossed my mind this morning!!!! Atleast we will be entertained while we watch and figure it out.
I'm putting my money on Justin, he's already sunk to a level I thought impossible.
I'll be looking forward to some positive comments about the Enquier on the Beacon Blog, instead of the 100% negative anti-newspaper bashing that is currently their bread and butter.
Finally some young people running for office! It is obvious our elders haven't been a good example and it is now time for them to go!
Classic Cincinnati self-loathing bleeding through in some of the above comments.
First of all, no pride for local boys make good, Justin and Nick. Then they attack Nick, claiming that because he doesn't live here anymore, he doesn't care about Cincinnati. Simultaneously they attack Justin because he does live here and has chosen to try to make a difference.
This is one of the reasons this town has had so many problems. There's a deep-seated hatred of change and new ideas.
Bring it on, Justin - some of us are ready and, who knows?, maybe we outnumber the reactionary noodniks who posted above and the political hacks they cherish.
I think the Dean supported Mallory too. He's batting a thousand I'd say, though I'm not too impressed by the Mayor or the Commissioner.
Why would he stop bashing this rag? That is the bread and butter that keeps me coming back.
Having new ideas is a good thing.
Having no ideas--or ideas based on ideology that show no understanding or appreciation for the consequences--is quite another.

This sort of blanket statement, combined with the silly tinfoil hat comment, has no substance.
Jeffre has a website and is easily contacted. If it matters to you, as you would like us to believe, why not contact him with your questions, your criticisms, etc, and publish the results? I'd bet that if you did the work, the Cincinnati Beacon would publish the results. I'd also bet that you won't do the work.
That's why I like the Dean and Jeffre. Agree or disagree with their POV, they do the work and, to their credit, they have the self-assurance to ignore sniping voices and vaccuous comments from the peanut gallery.

The thing is, they DON'T do the work. They are rumor mongers and conspiracy theorists.
If "the work" had actually been done by these people, it would result in a nuanced and sophisticated understanding of both politics and policy.
Holding the traditional media and our representatives accountable is a good thing. But simply engaging in an activity that is of the kind that would hold them accountable does not give you credibility nor does it mean that you are actually doing that activity well.
The DoC is the Fox News of the bloggoshpere. To be affiliated with him is a joke.

Not only do I believe that Justin Jeffre would do a good job on council I also think that he and Nick Lachey are two of the nicest down to earth guys I ever met. None of that celebrity crap. Just real. In the mayoral debate a few years ago..he held his own very well. Very articulate...knows the issues and he even got a compliment from Charlie Winburn! Justin's talents go beyond once belonging to a boy band...but than what's wrong with that? 98 degrees was a very successful and talented group of guys. It's just that he goes beyond that. In the few moments I spent talking with him and Nick I was won over. A little kindness and "realness" goes a long way....and Justin would be great for Cincinnati. Good luck to him.
Niceness is not high on my priority list for candidates. Competance is...
One more thought. Even though I disagree strongly with City Council candidate Charlie Winburn on social issues I can't help but like the guy as a person. He has a good heart and fights against drug pushers in our city. That said..lighten up against gays Charlie. People are who they are...focus on fighting drug dealers which you do so well. It is now illegal to discriminate against gays in the workplace because of who they happen to date or not date. I would certainly never dare to question the love you have for your wife or kids Mr. Winburn. In fact I am so very happy that your wife is a cancer SURVIVOR!!!!!! Survival with a capital S!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So lets let everyone enjoy freedom from discrimination..eh Charlie? My best wishes to you and your brave wife and even though I'm a self-labeled social progressive...I'd be lying if I said I didn't want you back on council.....so long as you come in ninth behind Justin Jeffre, Melanie Bates and Roxanne Qualls of course.
