Eby Goes Snazzy

If there was an award for the Fanciest Media Packet By A Cincinnati City Council Candidate, it would probably go - so far, at least - to John Eby.

They're shiny red folders, arriving in bright red envelopes - four or five to this office alone. Inside, there are business cards, a CD with photos, a piece of the literature he's dropping, a press release, a media guide with everything from his daughters' names and ages to his answers on an AFL-CIO questionnaire and a six-page transcript of an interview with The Dean of Cincinnati, who apparently requested an Eby yard sign.

In the transcript, Eby says he apologized to David Crowley for referring to him earlier this year as "Osama bin Crowley". The remark was in connection to Crowley's initiative to get council to vote against President Bush's troop surge. Eby, an Army veteran, says he sent the e-mail with the reference in it while he was angry and that he "responded inappropriately on a personal level." He says he apologized to Crowley and sent an e-mail to the other eight council members, apologizing to them too. He was trying, he says, to draw attention to what he saw as the real issue at the time - council's inattention to the real business of the city.

I'm amazed you guys let the thing about David Crowley flip-flopping on parole for a cop killer go - that should be a major asterik on Crowley, but you guys gave him a free pass.

I cant believe Eby is becoming such a kiss-up. Why is he kissing up to that communist crowley.

Hopefully we'll see John Eby on Council come November.

Any mention of Eby is a waste of electrons. He has as much chance of being on Council as the Reds do of winning the Super Bowl.

Eby can apologize a gazzillion times for his gaffe, but it won't erase anything. What's done is done & people will take that to the polls with them.

Ask Eby how much time he honestly spends on crime prevention initiatives in his neighborhood. He's great for nominating & buttonholing other residents.

Eby, along with Justin Jeffre & some of the other also-rans aren't even going to get close enough. Eby needs to keep his day job, do some real work in his community & Jeffre needs to find some worthwhile employment. Ditto for the others.

Eby also has perhaps the best website of any council candidate: www.johneby.com

Although the page content has not changed much, he's the only candidate that I've seen that is actively keeping a blog on his campaigning.

As for John doing work in his neighborhood, he does a lot for Westwood as a member of various groups and committees. He is currently overseeing the renovation of Ryan Park, for example. He has raised a lot of private money for that project. John is a do-er.

The Crowley "flip-flop" vote was let go because the Repubs did a poll and Crowley was in the top 3. They found out that it is going to pretty impossibly to knock Crowley off. That's why they are going to target Berding, who is VERY vulnerable.

Eby's attack on Crowley was right out of the Rove playbook, ATTACK, ATTACK. He did it to gain creds with his Law & Order peeps and declare his support for the policies of the Republican party. Shame on them for what they have enabled the Bush-Cheney admin to do to this country and shame on John Eby for using the same "you're either with us or against us" tactics. Perhaps he should read Thomas Paine rather than Rudy Guiliani and Karl Rove.

I wonder how much the Enquirer is being paid by Crowley to keep their mouth shut. This story has nothing to do with the original intent of the article and is one more way for the Enquirer to keep the circus at city hall flowing. I hope Eby wins and cleans up the mess Downtown.

Eby SHOULD have attacked Crowley...and frankly, so should everyone else in this city. Crowley gets a free pass because he has a known name and a bar up on the hill, but what is he really doing to FIX this city?

"Perhaps he should read Thomas Paine rather than Rudy Guiliani and Karl Rove"

Thomas Paine wrote a book called Common Sense, what Crowley did with his resolution about the Iraq war and again about the cop killer defies all common sense

So why is Berding's campaign coordinating with POWR-PAC?

I can't believe people are seriously acting like Eby has any shot whatsoever of getting on Council. He has a bigger problem with shooting his mouth off than even Leslie Ghiz. Does he even know where the east side of town is?

Say what you will about Crowley but the guy is a Navy veteran who loves this City, come on!

Anon 7:42,

Eby can get along with the other Republican on Council, Leslie Ghiz. He shares Ghiz' commitment to public safety and crime fighting. He will be a marked improvement over the Ice Cream Boy.

What does Crowley's Navy service 40 or 50 years ago have to do with anything affecting Cincinnati today?

Are you kidding me that that's a reason to vote for him?

at 8:44 AM, August 31, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sam Malone also is a Navy vet, so I assume you're voting for him too?

at 11:32 AM, August 31, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anon 8:44,

Of course Anon 7:42 isn't voting for Malone. The "you must vote for a veteran" only applies to Democratic candidates. If you mention that a Republican is a veteran, then he or she is "exploiting the uniform for political gain."

You should be used to the double standard by now.

The fact that Crowley is a veteran is pertinent because Eby called him a terrorist. That's what the whole blg posting was about.

I know it really drives you right wingers nuts that a democrat could actually be a veteran but they care about this counrty too.

Try to keep up.
