Term limits? They're temporary...

Howard Wilkinson has the story here

This is a tough one. I think term limits are a cop out because they take the decisons out of voters' hands. But at the same time, I see all these retreads running this year, and I think very few of them deserve to be re-elected. Cooper? Malone? Windburn? Smitherman? Yikes! Even Qualls' track record isn't so great.

We really really need new blood, and the 4-year recyle rules allows old incumbents to come back and makes it very difficult for new candidates to win.

Term limits along with a fair tax, and controled borders wil be the salvation of our country.

If you need any other arguments against term limits, look at Columbus. State Reps are novice hacks that have no clue what they're doing, or ever what they were sent to do. Term limits result in them never learning what their jobs are and that is why state government functions so poorly. Leave the decision in the hands of the voters, where it belongs.

All the more reason to support term limits. It's one term for Dale Mallory & he's back to being unemployed. Mayor Zero is another one termer. He'll have to find another seat & title to continue feeding at the public trough for a paycheck.

We've always had term limits. - They're called "elections".
With an informed, interested, active electorate, they work.
Otherwise--- not so much.

Term Limits are fantastic and since 80% of the wealth is controlled by 1 % of the population then: 1% of the population should pay 80 % of the tax !

Watch the use-less idiot start the goose-step as the Nazi party (tnp) invokes the jackson moon-walk !

bu, bu, bu, but !

Dear Idiotboy,

Yes, let's pity the poor rich, who have to part with so much of their precious wealth in order to pay their tax bill.

I guess that's why the richest man in America, Warren Buffet said last June that the rich need to pay more taxes, and that secretaries in his company are paying a higher percentage of their income in taxes than he is.

Buffet, who does not use any tax shelters, only pays 17.6% in taxes, while a secretary earning $60,000 pays close to 30% of their income in taxes.

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/money/tax/article1996735.ece

"Speaking at a $4,600-a-seat fundraiser Mr Buffett, who is worth an estimated $52 billion, said: “The 400 of us [here] pay a lower part of our income in taxes than our receptionists do, or our cleaning ladies, for that matter. If you’re in the luckiest 1 per cent of humanity, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99 per cent.”

Mr Buffett said that he was taxed at 17.7 per cent on the $46 million he made last year, without trying to avoid paying higher taxes, while his secretary, who earned $60,000, was taxed at 30 per cent. Mr Buffett told his audience, which included John Mack, the chairman of Morgan Stanley, and Alan Patricof, the founder of the US branch of Apax Partners, that US government policy had accentuated a disparity of wealth that hurt the economy by stifling opportunity and motivation.

The comments are among the most signficant yet in a debate raging on both sides of the Atlantic about growing income inequality and how the super-wealthy are taxed."

Suck on that you idiot.

Given that the highest marginal tax rate is well over 30 percent, Buffett by definition is doing something to avoid paying his fair share. That's the trouble with liberals: they think other people should chnage their ways but not them.

Comrade cincycapell,

I am not surprised for a minute that you would quote Buffet, the richest leftist in the United States. I am sure that you believe with your heart in Mr. Buffet’s beliefs of the in-equity of the currant tax code. This is where you and I agree.
Where we depart is on which side the in-equity lies.

If you expect me to believe that Buffet doesn’t have a bevy of tax attorneys and cpa’s to protect his interests, It’s time for you to lay down that crack pipe and let it cool off a bit.

I am of the same situation as Mr. Buffets alleged secretary. I make over 60k and pay the same rates. I also pay SS TAX Medicare TAX, State TAX, Local TAX.
This does not take in to affect sales TAX, gasoline TAX excise Tax, ECT.

Some may say “Idiot, there are deductions that reduce your tax burden”. I choose not to own a home; therefore I have no mortgage interest tax deduction. My children are grown and supporting themselves, therefore I have no dependent deductions. I do not entertain clients, so I have no club to deduct. I am getting screwed like the secretary.

The difference between us is I can’t get next to a system that penalizes any one group over another. That is why I pointed out the GROSS amount of taxes paid by the upper 2% verses the lower tax rates of the lower end taxpayer.

We are on the same page when it comes to equality, right? Then you logically could not disagree that the current tax code must be scrapped, The Fair Tax is the only solution. The IRS Gestapo must not be permitted to intrude in our private lives. The 16th amendment must be repealed and a replacement enacted limiting Government spending to 10% of the GMP.

Oh, I almost forgot, what is your take on term limits?

at 2:41 PM, August 26, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

The so-called 'FAIR' tax is a scam that the right wing is trying to sell. It's no more than a scheme to help the rich get out of paying their fair share of taxes.

Although the kool-aid drinkers like Idiotboy will tell you that the sales tax rate under FAIR will be 23%, it would actually be more in the range of 34% (plus there would still be state, county & city taxes on top of that), with those earning between $25,000 and $200,000 bearing the brunt of the tax burden.

http://www.factcheck.org/taxes/unspinning_the_fairtax.html

Once again, the middle class gets screwed. Oh by the way Idiotboy, the rent on your little hovel would be taxed under FAIR as well. Fortunately, the FAIR tax will never happen. Sorry Idiot, your going to have to keep paying your taxes like it or not.

"It's no more than a scheme to help the rich get out of paying their fair share of taxes."

Really? Please tell me...what is your definition of rich, and what should be their fair share?

Here's something else for you to chew on...instead of this sham fed revenue hike called minimum wage increases, how about making minimum wage earners tax exempt instead of penilizing small buissnes owners that hire teen-agers?

at 11:03 PM, August 26, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh yes, the old minimum wage/teenagers strawman argument. Allow me to debunk that for you:

"...wage earners tax exempt instead of penilizing small buissnes owners that hire teen-agers?....'

Is there some reason why a teenager shouldn't receive a living wage ?

Didn't we do away with exploitation of children ?

Low wage earners ARE exempt per. scheduling ?

Does penilizing = penalizing ?

Does buissnes = business ?

Does teen-agers = teenagers ?

Before anyone should attempt to run a business they should complete third grade English !

UI,

Do you get out much?

If you did, you would know that most Repugnicants are highly unpopular in most places.

How many festivals have you been to this summer? How many Oktoberfests will you go to this fall?

Democrats are showing up with tons of volunteers and shaking hands with voters. Most members of your party show up by themselves with maybe their spouse and kids and talk to a few people. A few have made the mistake of being there a bit too long and having people get confrontational or violent with them.

Fact is, no one is buying what you and your ilk are selling anymore.

I used to buy it, and now it makes me vomit. Judging from the 2006 election results, I am far, far from alone in this.

Like your progressive Congressperson from San Diego in a baggage claim terminal

Dodge the issues again, chump!!!!

How about your right wing 'family values' Senator Craig who pleaded giulty to soliciting an undercover male cop for sex in the Minnesota Aiport? Or Florida State Rep (& McCain Florida campaign chairman) who was busted in a Florida men's room for offering a male undercover cop $20 for a BJ?

Two more right wing anti-immigrant, anti-tax, pro 'defence of marraige' hypocrites. Add to them hooker-mongering diaper fetishist Republican Senator Vitter, another 'family first' hypocrite.....It just doesn't stop, does it?

Well the rats are fleeing the sinking GOP left and right, the GOP's fundraising is in the toilet, notable GOP senators and representatives are announcing their 'retirement' from office in 2008. The Dems will take the Presidency in '08 and will have a fillabuster proof majority in Congress. So much for the 'permanent republican majority'.

HA!!

UI,

Do the math. Start with the November 2006 election results.

Add the depatures from the Bush team. Add the Repugs in competitive districts who aren't running in 2008. Add the fact that the GOP cannot find a soul to run in many of them.

Closer to home, start with the 2 Repugs (OK, 1 plus Ghiz, who you right-wingers try to pretend isn't one of you). Look at where they finished last time. Look at how the city voted in 2006. Look at how the Reugs are fighting among themselves.

Now, which is more likely this year? 3 Repugs on council or 0 Repugs on council?>

Now, tell me, what has the GOP done to reverse their pathetically sad state of affairs? At the national level? At the state level? At the local level?

Anyone?

Bueller?

I'm sure the self-described Idiot thinks that he has THE math, just like fellow idiot Karl Rove did just before he got his clock cleaned in last years election.

Anon 12:37,

I can’t disagree with what you have written; I ditched the currant republican machine 2 years ago. My reasons were for the empty promises, the previous state government corruption, arrogance, and lack of moral fortitude.

In 2004, I did door to door canvassing for the President, contributed money, and took to the streets in Washington DC and New York, all on my OWN dime I feel that the current GOP is no different from the democrats. They just have different PR firms. They both have special interests that don’t include the rank and file citizen.

Unlike the blogger known as xgop, I am not going to pretend to have jumped ship and put my arms around the Marxist/progressive/Leninist movement. Never in a million years. The conservative base has sent out pink slips to false Messiahs, such as Trent Lot, McCain, DahWine, Taft, ECT. I will not give up on conservative values.

at 5:20 PM, August 28, 2007 Blogger usefullidiot said...

Busta,
I don't remember Rove running for anything.

at 11:23 PM, August 28, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

I never will figure out why the Repugs thought Rove was all that in the first place. It must be the secret tapes he has on all of their fetishes. In 2002, with Bush's approval rating in the stratosphere, the Repugs got only handful of seats, even with 30 states gerrymandering to their favor. In 2004, the Swift Vets won it for Bush (maybe Rove was behind that). And Dan Rather accidentally helped Bush with the worst own-goal in political history.
