Voinovich: Down with the tax code!

This is interesting: Sen. George Voinovich announced today that he's decided to co-sponsor the Tax Code Termination Act – legislation that would REPEAL the U.S. Tax Code by 2010!

The goal of the bill is to essentially force Congress to reauthorize the current tax code or replace it with a new system.

“Washington has become too accustomed to its current culture – a culture that’s destroying our competitiveness in the global marketplace,” said Voinovich, a Cleveland Republican. “Drastic measures are needed if we want to create better jobs and a higher quality of life for our kids and grandkids.”

Drastic indeed!

The Tax Code Termination Act, which comes from Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., would create a bipartisan commission that would be required to examine and to recommend to Congress plausible replacements for the tax code.

“Congress needs a serious overhaul of its tax code if we’re going to get this country back on the right track,” Voinovich said. “While it won’t be easy to pass this legislation, it will at least help us bring attention to this problem, and force this Congress and administration to deal with these looming issues instead of passing the buck to future generations.”

What do you think? Should Congress do away with the current tax code?

So, "Voin-of-which party should I belong" is trying to save his doomed Senate seat.

Two words George: Fair Tax. Or "HR125/S25" in your lingo. Co-sponsor that and we might believe that you are a true fiscal reformer...

Otherwise, I've got two other words: Mike DeWine.

Another Republican complaining about taxes? YAWN. Republicans will always complain about taxes, no matter what. They'll never be happy. No wonder people are leaving the Republican party in droves. They have no message other than "We whine about taxes."

Why doesn't the Enquirer report on the fact that John Boehner is a liar instead?

Anonymous at 10:27 am, 5/11, as a proud, card-carrying member of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, I certainly do my share of opposing unnecessary or excessive taxes every chance I get. But the real anti-tax whiners are COAST people such as Tom Brinkman, Jim Schifrin, Christopher Finney and the yahoo who revels in spinning negative BS about Congresswoman Jean Schmidt (calls himself variously "Jeff" and "CincyJeff"). To these people money and taxes are the primary motivation for their political activities. They were even willing to see one of your damned Democrats elected to Ohio-2 in the 2005 Second District general election rather than Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, because in their opinion she wasn't as fanatical and vicious as they are in fighting any and every tax and tax increase. Focus on the fanatics, and quit lumping true conservatives like Congresswoman Jean Schmidt and myself in with the profane and selfish people who erroneously claim to be GOPers and conservatives. I doubt that you would enjoy seeing your name as a upstanding leftist jacked into the same dung cart with Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Al Franken, George Soros and MoveOn.org. Same difference.

Anon 10:27,

If I remember correctly Jerry Brown used a plan of this same nature to win a few states in the democratic primary '1992. Hardly a republican whine then.

This could be the greatest measure for freedom by any congress in 150yrs.

All should call the senator at 202.224.3353 and give him your support.

Uselessidiot, you are one class act. With the limited vocabulary, spelling errors and twisted grammar you display, you must be a member of that profane gaggle of good ol' boys, COAST. You may even hang out with COAST's pottymouthpiece, Jim Schifrin. If so, that would explain your classless and useless remark.

I wouldn't belong to a club that would have me as a member.

But aside from that, If you were ever to venture beyond your insider-trading office and had real discourse with the people in the street, you would find that COAST is just echoing (did I spell that right elitist putz?) the feelings of the masses.

Of course TNP is a conservative - that's why he supports a candidate who voted for Bob Taft's tax increases over one who voted against them.

As for Voinovich, we don't need any more studies. We know the tax code doesn't work. Either introduce legislation to implement a Flat Tax, a national Sales Tax to replace the income tax, or stand before us and admit you're doing nothing to solve the problem.

Uselessidiot, you are obviously a member of "The Great Unwashed," the anti-intellectual, Survivor and American Idol aficionadoes who chafe at silly things like good grammar, correct spelling and proper word usage. You tipped your hand by calling me an "elitist putz" for criticizing your English. Touchy, aren't you.

Well, man of the people, have a beer and relax. I suspect you fancy yourself quite an analyst of the political scene. Question: if COAST is echoing the feelings of the masses, why can't COAST beat Congresswoman Jean Schmidt? They've tried, oh, how they've tried, four times over the past couple of years, and they've failed each time. Answer: they are so repugnant and vicious they turn people off, big-time, including the proletariat you apparently claim to represent. They are so ham-handed they remind me of the guy who tried to kill a hummingbird with a sledgehammer. Your quick defense of COAST also gives you away and helps me understand your perspective. Now that I know who you are parroting, I have a better idea how to respond.

You did manage to write your last comment clearly, and for that at least, I'm grateful.

Oh, I should add that my father was a bus driver, and I was considered "trailer trash" and a "hillbilly" by the "masses" in my public school. So much for your astute comment about my elitism.

Sorry, I didn't know that COAST ran for office. I thought people did.

UI, neither of your comments surprises me. I'm beginning to think you're not worth the effort to respond.
