Heimlich vs. Schmidt!

He's filed at the FEC

Read the story here

Here's his statement of candidacy

Here's the reaction from the National Republican Congressional Committee, courtesy of Malia Rulon

NRCC spokeswoman Julie Shutley said the party won't be getting involved in primary elections, even though Schmidt is an incumbent lawmaker.

"Ohio's second congressional district is a Republican seat and we have every confidence that it will continue to be in the red column after the next election cycle," Shutley said.

And here's what he e-mailed to supporters:

Dear Friends,

This week, after much thought and prayer, I have taken the first steps toward launching a campaign for Ohio's 2nd District Congressional seat by filing the necessary paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission.

I am pleased to tell you that we begin this quest with nearly $120,000 on hand, thanks to the generous help of loyal supporters. Even in the first few weeks of discussing this campaign, the encouragement I've received has been gratifying and humbling.I look forward to sharing my plans with grassroots activists and party leaders across the district in the coming months, and listening to your feedback and ideas.

As the parents of two young children, Rebecca and I are concerned about the future of our nation and our world. The GOP must recommit itself to being the party of good stewardship with regard to your tax dollars. Our party is yearning for a return to the principles established by Abraham Lincoln, the leadership and dignity demonstrated by Ronald Reagan, and the common sense conservative values shared by all Republicans.

The honest and hardworking families of Hamilton, Warren, Clermont, Brown, Adams, Pike and Scioto counties deserve to be represented with dignity and respect. That's the message I'll be taking across the 2nd District.

Thank you for your support over the years, and for your friendship and counsel. Please keep me in your prayers as I travel the district to speak with as many of you as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. I look forward to seeing you soon.

With warm personal regards,

Phil

Battle of the Meanies!
Coming soon.
Wait until the people in the eastern counties of OH02 get a look at Heimlich. Even Mean Jean will look good in comparison.
Bring it on.

Not much better than Mean Jean IMHO. You'd need to have appeal in Clermont County and Heimlich doesn't have it.

If Bob Proud runs he would unseat her. No one else can do it.

Problem is that Hamilton County politicians have never cared about Clermont (until they need their vote) and the voters know it. Clermont has always been like a step child to Heimlich and other cronies with his background. This is something all the residents (and voters) of Clermont are keenly aware of. Ask Patty DeWiner. Attempts to quill this sentiment will appear superficial to the voters and push them deeper into Jeans corner.

This also holds true for the Counties east of Clermont (and it's probably even worse).

Good luck Phil - you'll need it. You'll make you little appearences and the only people who will care are your staff of Hamiltonians who don't understand why you can't get a foothold.

Clermont is east of town by the way. See you soon.

SCHMIDT SUCKS.

But Heimlich??? Puke.

Aren't they related? They look the same. What is the difference, anyway?

I am hoping someone better gets into the race and Heimlich has the good sense to get out of the way.

McEwen was better than Heimlich.

My short list:

Deters
Brinkman

What a moron. He was rejected by his own party in November. His precinct by precinct vote totals are WORSE than Schmidt in precincts where they were both on the ballot.

He is going to get trounced.

We want Brinkman! Give us Brinkman!

I wonder who Heimlich will use for his campiagn staff. Maybe those fat, uneployed losers who used to hang around the McEwen "campaign" office.
Heimlich's gonna be like the Blues Brothers trying to "put the band back together."

He'll have to go to Deters to get "MurphTone" Mike McNamara back.

Then, he'll go to Kansas and get Big Bri Burgess if his wife'll let him out of the kitchen.

Next, this motley crue will hang outside the ICU waiting for Heart Attack Hardin to emerge.

Finally, the ragtaggers will have to track down The SpokesWeasel, AKA Mike Harlow. (Last seen on a Downtown street corner begging Chabot to take him back.)

While Heimlich of course is a better choice than Mean Jean Schmidt, he needs to step back and learn why he lost in November before he throws his hat in the ring again. Learn those lessons first, then jump back into the race. I hope to see Heimlich back in office sometime, but I'm not sure now is it.

We need to run a clean conservative who contrast Schmidt on both ethics and issues. That candidate is Tom Brinkman. He has a consistent record on lower taxes, right to life, and limited government, and doesn't have any mentionable ethical traps.

Mean Jean is a woman who voted for Bob Taft's tax increases, lied on her resume for years, wants to dump nuclear waste in our districts, and has been convicted twice by the Ohio Elections Commission. Her record is there for the ripping, and we need a clean conservative who can keep the spotlight on her. Brinkman for Congress!

at 7:23 PM, May 09, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jean Schmidt does not want to put a nuclear dump in our back yard. Are you guys silly? Come one the Bob Taft tax increases have been dicussed and brought up many times before...

Good thing Phil's got that $120,000. He'll learn campaigns are a little more expensive when you don't have any government employees to steal.

Heimlich actually won the 2nd district portion of Hamilton County. Schmidt lost Hamilton County to Wulsin. Schmidt is very vulnerable and it is better to lose the seat to a Republican than lose it in the general to a Dem.

Well, here we go again. Phil Heimlich, another of Hamilton County's sacrificial lambs, supreme example of a COAST lackey, recent loser to Pepper the Democrat, recent proponent of new taxes (for the jail--also defeated in the last election), has tossed his chapeau into the Second District Republican primary race. Now we face weeks and months of spin and BS from the likes of "Jeff" and "CincyJeff" and perhaps even Chillicothe's boy wonder, Nathan ("She didn't finish the race; I have proof!") Noy. And maybe we'll be treated to another rollicking demonstration of COAST class if Christopher Finney, a COAST co-founder along with Tom Brinkman, appears at a Congresswoman Jean Schmidt press conference and does his butt-slapping, profanity-laced routine for the benefit of the local press. Ah, it's gonna be soooo satisfying to add Heimlich's name to the list of distinguished losers who have been unsuccessfully thrown against the good Congresswoman, to wit, Brinkman, McEwen, DeWine, Hackett and Wulsin. And oh, for you gutter humor lovers who revel in the slime produced by the barrel in the scribblings of that miscreant COAST pottymouthpiece, Jim Schifrin, you are in for a political pornographic feast. I'll bet you can't wait to sate yourselves on all the repulsive body/potty humor he directs against the good Congresswoman.

The 2008 Republican primary election in the Second District is gonna be a fascinating exercise. And when it's all over, Heimlich will be looking for employment, because he doesn't have a snowball's chance.

at 10:12 PM, May 09, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah...Phil is not going to get this done. He wants to run for every office in the land. He ran Hamilton County in the ground, and he will not be able to gain any speed in the district...Phil...your gonna need all the money you can get your hands on.

Phil Heimlich doesn't impress me as the type of candidate who is willing to win the 2nd District one person at a time...

That's the ONLY way to defeat "Jean Schmidt and in the past 2 years, there's only been one candidate who has been willing to put forth the time and effort to actually go out and meet thousands of people who live and raise their families in Southern Ohio...

www.JimParker4ad.blogspot.com

In a 3 way Republican primary race, Schmidt wins. This is unfortunate but true. Who else is going to enter the Republican priamry?

As for the newest contender... here we go with the money thing again... $120,000 to start = bought and paid for before the race even begins.

at 8:29 AM, May 10, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is just delicious!

But let's take a look at some recent events and ponder what it means

First, the Enquirer runs a pointless front page article about how great COAST supposedly is.

Second, the Heimlich Pit Crew files suit againt a political blogger who has unearthed and reported much of the controversies about Heimlich; from personal family squabbles, to local corruption. lHeimlich's family is asking the courts to order a blogger to stop picking on him (LOLOLOL- too much)

Then, low and behold, as if timing isn't everything, Hiemlich announces his intent to run for office.

Well, isn't that special ? It's great to have the Enquirer cooperate with your political campaign and to supposedly be against frivolous lawsuits but filing this joke of a case because he can't take the truth being in the public domain.

Maybe he should just campagin with Finney standing on a differeent corner every week, slapping his behind, and telling people vote for my buddy Phil or kiss my f---- a--.

That'll work.

I guess this blog is used for the campaigns and whacko interest group peeps to spill their vile. Where is the honest discussion blog?

We would like to hear more about the wRong wingnut whacko lawsuit ?

Common Pleas, Federal ?

Publiccitizen.org should be able to help the blogger !

The local "mad brad' whacko party tried a "frivolous" lawsuit to suppress speech and were sent running with their elephant tail between their legs:

Hamilton County republican party .com

The blogger could certainly cite that case !

We wonder if 'fill' used the law firm that 'vincent' is associated with ?

If so, they should know better !

The 'truth' is the 'truth' and an affirmative defense, but, the wRong wingnut whackos have more money than a desire for 'truth' !

They will attempt intimidation via a 'frivolous' slap suit !

If 'fill' is claiming libel, then the 'blogger" may be able to 'discover' more than the wRong wingnut whacko is willing to reveal ! lol, lol, lol

Oh yes, and when they don't like what you have to say, you too shall be censored !

Phil Heimlich: The sad downfall of an overambitious, incompetent politician

Jan. 2005: Named President, Hamilton County Commission. Announces plans to "revolutionize" County Government.

Spring 2005: Puts the revolution on hold, decides to run for Congress after Portman stepped down, and tells staff to get ready; but then quits the race 3 days later to . . .

2005: Run for Lieutenant Governor; quit after almost a year of campaigning while County floundered; running mate ultimately failed as well

2006: After quitting LG race, ran to defend County Commission seat. Was one of only a few Republicans (state, county, or federal) to lose in Hamilton County that November.

2008: ?

Why would anyone support this guy?

Its called principle & idealism ... you my fellow citizen are the reason America is in bad shape! And don't lecture me on being naive ... you have no other basis for your worldview other than hatred for "right wingers." I have a worldview that guides my decisions (and dont' you dare group me into the same mold as every neo-con savage). Let's be a little more polite (e.g. Sen. Robert Byrd is wrong on a lot of issues like you but is still civil in his debate and highly respected in the Senate).

One More Joins the Fray in the 2nd District 5-10-07

Hamilton County Republican Party Executive Director Maggie Nafziger said that while rumors had been circulating about Heimlich's potential candidacy, Heimlich did not inform local Republicans.

"I think we were kind of surprised to hear of his candidacy yesterday," Nafziger said. "We're disappointed he wasn't a team player."

Renegade primary challenger muddles Republicans’ efforts to unseat Schmidt
The Hill, 5-10-07

State Rep. Tom Brinkman Jr. (R), who formed the group in 1999 with attorney Christopher Finney, said yesterday that he will not yield to Heimlich. Other possible candidates include 2006 gubernatorial nominee Ken Blackwell and Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters, as well as podiatrist and Iraq war veteran Brad Wenstrup.

(snip)

Schmidt Chief of Staff Barry Bennett said Heimlich is not much of a threat and cited his county commission reelection loss to a Democrat in 2006. Hamilton County is a Republican stronghold. “That’d be great if they both ran,” Bennett said. “Phil Heimlich is just not a candidate that people will be able to unite behind. He’s unemployed and unpopular. And he wants to run. Well, we welcome him to the race.”

at 8:38 PM, May 10, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why does Heimlich deserve a promotion? Let's all remember his bizarre performance a year ago with the Banks project. He made such a ridiculous power grab, refusing to negotiate with the city, etc., that he had to be SUED by all the ex- mayors, etc., just to act like a professional and come to the negotiating table.

Heimlich is bad, bad news. He abuses any power he gets, throws tantrums, and makes Dick Cheney look like a model of openess. To promote him to congress is to invite disaster. Wake up, folks. Schmidt is awful, but Heimlich is worse.

Phil, please stay out of the race. A third candidate is going to enter the race and by splitting the vote you're handing Jean Schmidt the win. You don't stand a chance. You're only hurting the GOP chances of getting Schmidt out of there. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE pull out. Put your ego aside for once and do what's good for the people and the GOP.

I'm thinking this announcement might be classified as one of the great blunders of modern politics.

I read where the Hamilton County GOP has characterized it as a power play, and it's typical Heimlich.

Clearly he has such a high opinion of himself that he thinks he can do whatever he wants and people will simply fall in line.

Two national publications (The Hill , and Campaigns and Elections magazines) have already trashed him.

It's too bad he doesn't ever listen to anyone except the voices inside of his head.
