Blue chippers: Call Monzel!

An e-mail this afternoon to members of the Blue Chip Young Republicans Club urged calls to Chris Monzel to urge him not to vote in favor of Vice Mayor Jim Tarbell's $3.8 million arts funding plan. It would give $800,000 to the Cincinnati Arts Museum, Cincinnati History Museum, Music Hall and the Underground Railroad Freedom Center. It also would create a $600,000 fund for smaller arts groups, part of which would also pay for parades and events like Riverfest and the Black Family Reunion.

Here's the text (sic) of the e-mail, sent at 12:19 p.m.:

"an article on the enquirer website states our CONSERVATIVE republican city counselman CHRIS MONZEL is planning to vote with liberals john cranley, david crowley, cecil thomas and vice mayor jim tarbell, to create a $600,000.00 slush fund of tax payer money for artists! this vote is not a fiscally responsible. please call monzel immediately and ask him not to waste our tax money!

chris monzel 513.352.3640."

Leslie Ghiz is the most backhanded witch in politics - Republican or Democrat.

I'm a republican but I'd vote for Crowley and Cole before I'd ever vote for Ghiz. I wouldn't even want to be in the same room as her. The city - republicans, democrats, charterites - all can only hope she will lose this fall.

The Hamilton County Republican Party is an embarrasment. George Vincent has to go. Maggie Nafziger has to go.

Chris Monzel has 10 times as much class in his spit as Ghiz will ever have.

Let's see.. Monzel votes to spend #3.8 million on the arts, adn that is an outrage, while Leslie Ghiz votes to spend $4 million on the arts and that is apparently OK?

The Blue Chip YOung Republicans used to be a conservative organization. Then all the fat unmarried guys who dominate the group got infatuated with Leslie Ghiz. When they started shilling for Ghiz, some other liberal women started coming around too.

The person who sent this e-mail out is employed by Joe Deters. I wonder what he thinks of one of his aides picking an intra-party fight (with someone other than Tom Brinkman, that is).

Vincent should NEVER endorse Ghiz for counsel again.

Doing so should be grounds for termination.

The Bortz Plan = $4 million to four elite institutions

The Tarbell Plan = $3.8 million to those four and to neighborhood arts facilities

The Monzel Plan = vote against the Freedom center, but support the rest of Tarbell's plan.. $3 million

Are the Blue Chip Republicans idiots or a lobbying organization for the Bortz, Berding, Ghiz and Cole BS?

I guess both.

Good for Monzel!! Are the Fiscal Phonies down to four??? Let's hope so.

Are the blue chippers an appendage of The Fascist Five? Where yes means no and up means down and 1 Million dollars is less than 800 Thousand dollars. These people need to go.

I was not pleased to see my group's email address used for this purpose. The club exists to promote conservatism, not racist white liberal Republican windbags who got something going with every white Democrat at City Hall.

Let's see, the Tarbell plan calls for spending $3.8 million and has 4 supporters.

The Ghiz plan calls for spending $4 million and has 4 supporters too.

Monzel supports the Tarbell version, minus the $800k to the Slave Center. That would have Monzel spending $3 million.

Who again is the big spender? I don't know that the city even has $3 million to spend on this junk, but at least Monzel is showing much more fiscal responsibility than the rest of Clowncil.

If Ghiz "didn't" authorize her office to send out the email, who gave the OK? Jeff Berding? Tracy?

Ghiz's aide -- Scott Gehring -- is not just "a" leader of the club, but he is the chairman!!

Look it up:
http://www.bluechipyrs.org/

Unless he can prove he didn't do this, he better ready his resignation!

Monzel's integrity is not to be messed with.

Everyone should contact Leslie Ghiz and demand that she fire Scott Gehring. This is the worst act of interparty sabotage I have ever seen.

I got the blue chip email. Scott Gehring wasn't the person who sent it. It was from another member of the club. Anyone can send an email to the entire club through the yahoo group.

As chairman of group Gehring shares responsibility - and as a Ghiz hack we know he can't be trusted. If he is truly sorry, he is should send out an email to the same group apologizing to Monzel.

at 11:21 AM, May 10, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Who was the person that sent it? It'd be intersting to examine their connection to Ghiz.

at 12:59 PM, May 10, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anonymous 9:49 --

If Gehring didn't do it, what he is going to do about it? He is the head of the group.

Leslie and Chris need each other as allies on council. 90% of the time, they are going to be on the same side. 90% of the time when they are not on the same side, it is not something that is going to define them or the party.

The tension between them is solely on internal matters within the party.

Her aide has a position as the leader of a political organization to which they both belong or should belong.

Gehring's silence on this is deafening.

Anon 11:21 AM,

The sender was Betsey Sunderman, the past president of the organization. Betsey has sent e-mails out on behalf of Scott before, though in the past they were previously identified as coming from him.

Scott Gehring was elected without opposition at the club's meeting in January. Betsey nominated or seconded him, I forget which.

Betsey works for Joe Deters as an assistant prosecutor. She is the daughter of a Republican Court of Appeals Judge.

Betsey and the rest of the Blue Chips have had it in for certain Republicans ever since Sam Malone passed over Leslie and appointed Chris to the Council vacancy. They retaliated by endorsing Ghiz, John Eby, and two non-Republicans rather than endorsing Monzel and Malone.

Who teached theze republikans how to rite and spel? I don't pretend to have majored in English, but sheesh! Not only does Betsey Sunderman have her facts all screwed up; she can't spell or put a sentence together.

1. Shouldn't counselman be councilman?

2. What does the following line mean: "this vote is not a fiscally responsible."

3. On the facts, my understanding of Chris Monzel's latest position is that he plans to vote against both of the current funding plans. He wants to give $1 million to the Cincinnati Arts Museum, Cincinnati History Museum, and Music Hall. Unlike Leslie Ghiz and the rest of the fiscal phonies, Monzel doesn't support giving $1 million to the Slave Center. He doesn't support creating a $600,000 fund for smaller arts groups; he wants the city to keep the money. (Tell me again what is fiscally irresponsible about that?)

4. Why is this information on the Enquirer's website without any attempt to get the facts out there to the public? Could it be because the Enquirer has supported the Slave Center from day one and wants to see them get the $1 million tax dollars from the city?

5. If the Enquirer is going to publish emails like the one sent by Sunderman, why not take a minute to explain the deep divisions within the Hamilton County Republican Party?

Why aren't the blogs reporting the 3 pro-Monzel messages that came in response to Betsy's message? That should help make it clear the pro-Ghiz message is not representative of much of the club.

I am on the BlueChip e-mail list. We still have not seen an email from Gehring apologizing. Maybe they're not sorry after all.

Check out the secondary column down the right side of the above link. Good job Monzel!

Where was Leslie Ghiz to support Monzel's fiscally responsible plan? Probably too busy helping David Pepper raise our County's Sales Tax.
