Well, that didn't take long. A Democratic majority for about 120 days, and looky here, a tax increase!

Portune isn't on the ballot until 2008, but you can make your displeasure known by voting against Leslie Ghiz this November if you live in Cincinnati.

Ghizzy, an alleged Republican, supported Democrat Pepper last November.

Why is Si receiving funds from the federal government to house federal inmates ?

If the Fed's need a place, let them build their own !

Why are we housing people and giving tickets for j-walking ?

Handle the social issue, they are not criminals !

We "DO NOT NEED" a new jail, PERIOD !

Si wants his prison motel to generate more Fed rental fees !

Why does Pepper's book report claim there is a 70 % approval poll for the plan ?

Why are they worried about passage ?

Sales taxes are regressive !

Sorry, we are with Da-whine on this one !

PATHETIC !

I say they just get it done. This town never gets anything done--just talk and talk and talk and talk and talk.

Hey here's the plan, move more citizens to federal offenses and charge the Fed for housing. Great idea, all we need is a bigger jail.

November 2006: Voters vote down tax increase and elect Pepper.

May 2007: Pepper and Portune increase tax Higher than the one we just voted down.

I guess we should never underestamate the stupidity of the electorate.

Maybe if Si sells his aircraft carrier we could afford one (a new jail)

Translation:

OK, folks, we're gonna raise your taxes no matter what. Either you make the decision for us at the polls, or we have dog-and-pony shows where we get people to come out and tell us to do it. Either way, we pin the blame for higher taxes on you, pass the buck and keep our phoney baloney jobs!

We'd tell you all to run against us if you think you can do better, but we don't actually want you to take us up on the offer.

Sounds like our surgically neutered bold typist

If the rising incidence of crime coming to your neighborhood doesn't bother you -
If the 70% recidivism rate, the same people going through the system over, and over, and over, on taxpayers dime doesn't bother you -
If the property tax increases for township police to deal with it all doesn't bother you-
If your declining property values doesn't bother you-
If your rising insurance rates for home and care doesn't bother you -

By all means, keep complaining ...

Me, I'm sick of this issue going round and round - and nobody doing anything as the county goes down the tubes playing political games

JUST BUILD IT!

The Democratic majority is only doing what the Republicans didn't have the cojoneas (sp)to do - and that is - get the darn job done.

Repubican Sheriff Leis, Republican JOe Deters, Republican trustees through the county, Republican judges -- they all want it, support it and demand it

The only difference is these guys will do what needs to be done and are willing to take responsiblity for it -- not DeWhiner.

The proposals for a new tax increase for a new facility to house and rehabilitate prisioners has gone on long enough. I believe Commissioners Pepper and Portune are on the right track but a final draft of how this new tax will benefit our community is still not available.

When we, Hamilton County Citizens, voted down the tax increase last year for a several reasons 1) The tax increase was only coming about to pad Heimlich's re-election campaign 2) Not enough information on rehabilitation programs for offenders 3) Juvinile crime prevention and rehabilitation programs were not included 4) The slow moving justice system in Hamilton County was being overlooked 5) The tax was way to long...

Are we there yet? I believe that we have yet to see a final draft of the jail plan. When Pepper and Portune come out with it and it includes apects of all the above then it will be time to move forward in good faith weather they decide to place it on the ballot or weather they (The County Commissioners) vote it in.

The number one issue is crime in our community and the lock-um-up and throw away the key attitude is part of that problem.

The way we have tried to solve the problems of crime in the past has and still continues to cost us money and retention of good residents in Hamilton County.

If Pepper and Portune do choose to vote the new tax in then I hope they respect the citizens of Hamilton County by making available a full final draft of the plan.

It is time for the Citizens of Hamilton County to support this tax. It is not time to keep on playing politics with it (Heimlich style) like DeWine is doing.

As a Ham Co voter I continue to be disgusted by the way I'm being treated by The White Democrats on the County Commission. We the voters have already spoken on this issue. We did not support raising our Sales Tax by 0.25 cents to build a jail. They need to listen to what we said!

We said NO to a 0.25 cent tax hike not because we felt the tax increase was too little, but because it's too much. Now The White Democrats want to raise our taxes by double what we already said we didn't want, AND they're considering doing it without a vote of the people? Pepper and Portune are extremely disrespectful of the voters. They are actually making Pat DeWine look like a statesman by comparison, they're that bad.

VOTE NO ON THE JAIL TAX!
VOTE NO ON PORTUNE!
VOTE NO ON PEPPER!

Peter -Here's what I've read and heard about your issues -

Not enough information on rehabilitation programs for offenders
THE CRUS OF THIS PLAN IS THE REHAB PROGRAMS -"RE-ENTRY"- THEY CALL IT, THAT PREPARES OFFENDERS FOR SELF SUFFICIENCY THAT ISN'T ABOUT JOBS AT MCDONALDS, BUT REAL JOBS THAT YOU CAN BUILD A LIFE ON

Juvinile crime prevention and rehabilitation programs were not included

ONE WAY JUVENILE CRIME IS ADDRESSED IS BY EXPANDING THE FACILITY SO WE NO LONGER SHIFT KIDS OFF TO STATE DETENTION CENTERS SO THAT THEY CAN BE CLOSER TO FAMILY AND SUPPORT SYSYEMS - WITH JUDGES HONORLAW AND LIPPS IN AND HENDON OUT - LOTS OF REFORMS ARE UNDERWAY REGARDING JUVENILE CRIME ALREADY

The slow moving justice system in Hamilton County was being overlooked

THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE COMMISSION - INCLUDING JUDGES - IS EXAMINING BOTH COST EFFICIENCY ISSUES AND POPULATION ISSUES (SERVICE NEEDS, INCL QUICK BAILS) SO THAT PEOPLE WHO COMMIT MINOR CRIMES AREN'T DETAINED UNNECESSARILY - THE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE TO BE FORTHCOMING

I do agree with you, however, more specifics need to be put from pen to paper.

It's about time! Just build this thing, please! That way we can get serious about addressing the crime in our communities. Maintaining the status quo is what is driving people away.

JUST BUILD IT!
