The Banks? Let's Wait A Little Longer

Hamilton County commissioners on Wednesday morning passed a resolution showing their "commitment to the success of the Banks by shifting responsibility for implementation of the Banks Project to the Port Authority following the completion of the transition work of the Banks Working Group pursuant to an agreed-upon Mission Statement, scope, charge and Rules of Governance and Procedure, and revising and amending the Agreement that created the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority ....."

And so on.

But when a resolution with exactly the same wording came up about four hours later at Cincinnati City Hall, it didn't go straight through like Councilman Chris Bortz wanted. Instead, Mayor Mark Mallory suggested it go back to Bortz's economic development committee, which meets again May 8.

Mallory said he did that because there hadn't been adequate time for public input.

"There is no rush on this," he said. "Remember we've been talking about it for a year and a half."

Action isn't necessary anyway, the mayor said, until there's an actual Banks plan.

Public input has been pouring in on this project for the past decade!

I think it can be summed up in 3 words: JUST BUILD IT!

What was Bortz trying to hide?

"Just build it"? That's not what AMOS and the NAACP are saying and that's not what I'm saying. We're tired of the good ole boys making plans without public input because the decisions are made that only benefit rich white people.

Minorities need inclusion on this $700 million project. We aren't satisfied with words and broken promises anymore. We need to have jobs created for people in our community. This needs to benefit everybody not just the same people that own the politicians.

This project is ill conceived. This will not bring tourists. The only thing the five white guys are good at is stuffing public money in their pockets.

Shame on the Enquirer for not reporting that the AMOS project pulling out is the only reason we got 2 black guys added to this project. Now how about some women!

Un-freaking-believable.

Do they need to get public input when they use the toilet? That's about as ridiculous as the Banks charade has become.

I agree with anon 7:28 - JUST FREAKING BUILD IT!!!

I agree - just freaking build it!

Are we soooo insecure that we need a m ember of every single minority group ( women, hispanics, asian, ) and every single economic strata ( poor, lower middle class, working class, rich, really really rich) on this group to have reasonable input.

ANON 8:17.

Please explain how you would like minorities included in this project. Saying you want inclusion is great. Now break it down - who does what? What companies are hired? What minorities are going to provide financing?

Lay out your plan, please.

Let's get this straight. Two years ago, the County TOOK OVER the project from the City and Port Authority to run it all by itself. The City was very angry, as the County, under Heimlich, insisted on making decisions on his own.

Now the County is offering to go back to the model of joint partnership, through the Port Authority. And the Mayor wants to get public input to see if this is a good idea?

Seems the wRong wingnut press should choose to serve the public with the full details of the Banks plan !

Instead we receive the "fishwRap's" wRong wingnut whacko elephant propaganda !

PATHETIC !

HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2007 !
