Strickland changes way judges are picked

Read Jon Craig's breaking story here

Update from Howard Wilkinson

Hamilton County Democratic chairman Tim Burke said county Democratic party officials around the state "saw this coming" basd on conversations with the governor and his team during the transition period.

"Even with this, I’m still satsified that the Democratic party will have influence over judicial appointments and it should,’’ said Burke, the recently-elected president of the Ohio Democratic County Chairs Association. "But it is clearly something the governor wanted; and it’s a huge change."

Burke said that Ohio’s last Democratic governor, Richard Celeste, who was governor from 1983 to 1991, had a judicial appointment system that went beyond just taking recommendations from his politicalk party, but nothing like the Strickland plan, which sets up a bipartisan panel to recommend new judges.

Strickland should cut off funding to the courts causing them to release these new appointtees to the bench and then, later re-instate the budget and name his own appointments to the bench.

Taft did what Bush is doing - leaving a legacy of bad decisions and problems (insider appointees) for the next leader to solve.

And Strickland should de-fund them in order to usurp the cowardice exercise of authority from a cut and run governor.

First, Stricky can't defund the courts. Go get out your fourth grade civics books and check out the "Branches of Government" section. Second, Taft probably didn't even know any of these appointees, they are generally chosen fron the locality and submitted to the governor. Those local screening committees are generally made up of local lawyers. Third, let us see how many non-dems Mr. Fair and Impartial appoints. My guess will be ZERO in the next four years.

I hope he doesn't appoint a single Republican - the republican dominated courts have allowed the illegal activities inthis state to go unpunished when it comes to our precious elected officials.

Let justice roll

Looks like Sylvia "Big Momma" Hendon won't be able to pressure her son in law Deters to appoint her friends like Bernie Bouchard, who distinguised himself as a lazy magistrate in Juvenile Court.

The gravy train is over boys.
