Schmidt gets autograph

After President Bush finished his State of the Union speech, lawmakers in the U.S. House chamber immediately clammored toward him as he exited.

First to congratulate him on his speech were several House leaders, including House Whip Roy Blunt, R-Mo., followed by Minority Leader John Boehner, a West Chester Republican, who shook Bush's hand, then leaned in and whispered something in his ear.

Then came the autograph session. As soon as one lawmaker asked for the president to sign the State of the Union program booklet, everyone wanted his signature - even Democrats!

The only Greater Cincinnati lawmaker lucky enough to snag the president's autograph?

Rep. Jean Schmidt, of course. The Miami Township Republican, sitting along the aisle, simply held out her program as the president passed buy - and was rewarded with a quick signature.

My wife says that Mean Jean reminds her of one of the evil witches from "The Wizard of Oz". Mean Jean reminds me of the Scarecrow. "If I only had a brain!"

this autograph session looks tacky - somebody arrange fo rthe preesident to pre-ign these programs so we don't have to see elected officials acting like teenage groupies

it looks stupid and crass - lacks any dignity

If you want to see something funny, look for video of new Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R) squeezing GWB's shoulder for a full 30 sec. before giving him a long, wet one on the mouth - while trying to cop an autograph. (Where was the Secret Service?)

WOW! I gotta admit that I'm impressed. Jean Schmidt showed heroic personal courage, actually soliciting an autograph as greatness passed her by(yet again). It looks as if she may have (gasp!) acted on her own initiative. It's nice to see her seize the bush by the horns. Way to go,Jean!!! By the way, have you put that cherished SOTU program up on E-Bay yet?
