GOP presidential primary starts with pancakes

The annual GOP pancake breakfast at the Sharonville Convention Center on Feb. 17 could mark the start of the 2008 presidential primary season in Ohio.

The Northeast Hamilton County Republican Club, which hosts the annual event, has invited all the announced and potential candidates for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination. Given the fact that this part of the state has a lot to say about who wins GOP primaries in Ohio, it's not outside the realm of possibility that some of them might show up.

After the Republicans enjoy a breakfast of pancakes, bacon and sausage, a presidential straw poll will be taken. It's not clear yet which names will be on the straw poll ballot, but the flyer touting the breakfast features photos of former House speaker Newt Gingrich, Rudy Guiliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney.

This year's featured speaker will be JoAnn Davidson, the former Ohio House speaker who is now co-chair of the Republican National Committee.

At last year's breakfast, hundreds of Republicans braved an early morning snowstorm to show up for a straw poll vote on the 2nd Congressional District primary, with former congressman Bob McEwen eking out a win over incumbent Jean Schmidt. The straw poll voters chose Ken Blackwell for governor over then-attorney general Jim Petro.

Schmidt, of course, won the May primary, as did Blackwell. The rest is history.

The GOP fun begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17. Admission is $15 for individuals and $35 for families.

I hope the investigators working for Attorney General Marc Dann read this blog.

Great place to make the needed arrests. Lots of corrupt Repugnicants gathering in one place to try and suck up to the powers that be within their iniquitous organization.

FYI, Sharonville Convention Center is well-known to local media and the drop-off out front is a great place to set up to get the photo ops of the Repugnicant crooks being frog-marched.

Usefull (sic),

Great job, political genius. I wonder how many liberals were converted to rational thought by your skillful use of the CAPS LOCK key when typing PATHETIC!

In all seriousness, you need to realize that you have been cavorting with people who are, quite frankly, criminals.

Bob Taft, Bob Ney, Tom DeLay, Duke Cunningham, and Jack Abramoff are just the most recent examples.

You also need to realize that it is simply not practical for them to be the only crooks in your organization.

I am sorry you are having such a difficult time reconciling yourself to the discovery that the people you've been supporting all this time are actually crooks who have been using you and others like you. That they freuquently invoke the name of Jesus to pressure you to support them over all these years is all the more despicable.

If the Democrats get even remotely organized over the next two years, it is a safe bet that the Republican Party as we know it will cease to exist.

We know that Katrina, the war, profiteering, wiretapping, and neglect of Supreme Court decisions on school funding alone will give investigators fertile ground.
Too many were too crooked for too long. They will be investigated, indicted, convicted, and sent to jail. Most Republicans do not do well in jail; they rank only above child molesters (woe be to the child-molesting Republicans-- you knwo who you are).

So they will turn state's evidence, giving the investigators fresh new targets, who will, in turn, turn state's evidence against others. Pretty soon the only Republican clubs holding any meetings will out in Lucasville.

This pancake breakfast might make a great "then" and "now" photo some day. Go take some pictures and in a few years put a dot over the faces of those indicted.

There won't be many left.

OMG! I cannot believe that someone just referred to the idea of "term limits" for a legislator.

If there is a place for term limits, it may be....and please note "may" be ..for someone in an executive office, such as a Governor, a Prosecutor, a District attorney...etc.

But if you "term limit" a representative, all you have done is increase the power of the unelected hangers on...staff members, lobbyists, etc, and insure that there is a never-ending revolving door of inexperienced legislators.

Right now I am unfortunately posted down South in the land of cotton and here we have a State's Attorney who has been in office 32 years, Judges who once elected, never get challenged again because no one is willing to risk running against them.....yet we do have "term limited" State Reps and State Senators.

So who really runs things? You can bet the State's Attorney is one powerful mahoochee....

Big name law firms, lawyers, unelected bureaucrats...they run this region. So be happy things are different up in Cinci.

They are no different here !

The wRong wingnut whackos control the courthouse and they simply dismiss claims if they don't agree with the legislative law. No one challenges them because they have to be in front of them again !

If anyone runs against the "judicial misleaders" they file a slap harassing suit or frivolous ethics charges !

PATHETIC !

HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2007 !

Wow you are about the least enlightened person I have read from in this blog.

Your "one group is all Criminals" and "one group is a bunch of angels" is pretty lame!! Nice to see you can take a group of people and compare them to Child Molesters. No class!! You may have views that are different from another group of people. That is fine and this is a great contry because you are allowed to have those views and express them. However you have proven yourself to be beyond ridiculous. IF you really believe that all Rep. are evil and corrupt, then you have gone off of the deep end. It is also a small person who writes behind "anonymous" and makes claims that everyone in a certain group is corrupt.

Hi Howard. I wasn't able to post this yesterday but I hope that someone -- offered Steve Chabot some cheery "Happy Birthday" greetings!

We love ya, Steve! Hope you had a great day and that you treated yourself to something special (other than just a pancake breakfast)

Why don't you trade in that old Buick you campaigned in last year? You'd be doing the economy some good, too.

Best wishes and happy birthday!

"...It is also a small person who writes behind "anonymous" and makes claims that everyone in a certain group is corrupt...."

It is always a wRong wingnut, "culture of corruption" whacko that wants to know who you are and suppress what you say !

The fondling folly, groping old pedophiles (gop) want the means to retaliate against the individual because their republicnut ideology is weak !

Hey whacko, this country has a constitutional first amendment and the Supreme Court has ruled free speech includes the right to speak anonymous !

I suppose you wish to infiltrate the majority for the karl rove "state street" boys so you can employment "black ball" the truth deliverer !

PATHETIC !
