Redfern is downright giddy
The polls have been closed for just an hour but Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern strolled out on stage in Columbus to give a jubilant victory speech at the Hyatt on Capitol Square.
To a wall-to-wall ballroom crowd, possibly numbering near 1,000 people, Redfern rattled off every statewide candidate's name. Democrats haven't been this happy as a political party, some said, since Richard Celeste became governor in 1986, the last time a Democrat became governor.
"We are going to win congressional seats right here in Central Ohio and southern Ohio and we are going to make history tonight," Redfern said to cheers.
"How do you feel tonight?" asked Redfern, who became state party chairman last December. "It is time to turn around Ohio. We're going to have a great time tonight."
