Independent statewide candidates certified

The Ohio Secretary of State's office has certified the names of independent, non-partisan candidates who gathered at least 5,000 valid voter signatures to qualify for the Nov. 7 general election ballot.

James Lee, spokesman for Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, said the following candidates' names will appear on the ballot without political party designations:

John A. Eastman of Centerville (6,486 valid signatures) and Timothy J. Kettler of Warsaw (6,744 valid signatures) are independent Secretary of State candidates.

More details on Eastman, who is active with the Natural Law Party of Ohio, can be found at
http://www.johneastman.org/

More information on Kettler, a member of the Green Party, can be found at http://www.sostim06.com/ or at http://www.ohiogreens.org/elections/kettler06.html

In the race for Ohio governor, Libertarian Bill Peirce of Mayfield Village and running-mate Mark Noble of Columbus collected 9,389 valid signatures in the race for governor/lieutenant governor. Additional details about Peirce is available at http://peirceforohio.com/

Also certified for the top spot on the Ohio statewide ticket are Robert Fitrakis of Columbus and his lieutenant governor running-mate, Anita Rios of Toledo. They collected 7,853 valid signatures, according to Lee. More information on the Green Party members can be found at http://www.ohiogreens.org/elections/fitrakis06.html

Campaign spokeswoman Dorri Steinhoff said a press conference is set for noon Friday at the basement law office that Fitrakis shares with Columbus attorney Cliff Arnebeck at 341 S. Third Street, Suite 10.

Fitrakis, a political science professor and Free Press reporter, is best known for his legal challenges of the 2004 presidential election results.

The Ohio Green Party voted to endorse Fitrakis and Rios during its convention in February.

Rios is a longtime union activist and community organizer with a background in mental health. She is former chair of the Green Party National Committee. Her parents were Mexican American migrant farm workers.

Steinhoff said her candidates intend to form a rainbow coalition of faithful Greens and independent, progressive people of color. "The Green Party offers a true alternative to the corporate influenced two-party system," she said in a news statement.

The Green, Natural Law, Libertarian and other minor political parties are not recognized in Ohio until they receive 5 percent of the vote during an election. Therefore, their candidates are designated as "Independents" on the Nov. 7 ballot.

Why no news on Booby Ney today? Another senior staff member got subpoenaed and three top aides have quit -- including lying Brian.
First Walsh says Ney doesn't golf. Then he says Ney likes golf about as much as all night legislative meetings.
Then, when photos come out with a golf club in his red hand in Scotland with buddies Ralph Reed, Abranoff and others...Oh, I guess Booby does golf with buttbuddies.
Don't ya remember Ney golfing in Scottsdale, Ariz., with another aide-turned-lobbyist?

Now will this Republican rag give these candidates the same amount of ink as Strckland and the criminal Blackwell?

Hey Carl Weisel, I guess you didn't ask the international election observer, Dr. Robert Fitrakis, wheteher there were serious problems with the 2004 election did you?

Who are the people you asked? Was it Ken Blackwell?

We're not going away!

Carl, please answer anon 2:38's question, and hopefully Bingo Bob's supporters will go away.

It is important that all qualifed candidates be given opportunity to present their case to the people. The Enquirer has provided excellent coverage through their Choice Questions asked and answered by all the candidates. It helps voters decide by presenting the real issues instead of just personalities.

Good going the coverage earlier of questions to all four Gov. candidates.
What's up with the debate ? I hear that your going to exclude half the field ?

Why not continue to let us know what all the options are ? What are we to do ? Abandon the paper and go to other sources for news ?

Vote Democrat. We need checks and balances on this fringe Republican government which has run "off the rails".

The last time the Democrats controlled the White House the American public approved of their leadership to a much greater degree than they approve of Republicans failed “leadership.” In fact, Americans think the Clinton Democrats did a better job on every single point of comparison.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/05/12/bush.clinton.poll/index.html?section=cnn_ topstories

Also compare the following polls
W’s polls: http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm
Republican job ratings: http://www.pollingreport.com/cong_rep.htm
Bill Clinton polls: http://www.pollingreport.com/clinton-.htm

Here is what the Democrats need to do if they are able to win power in either the House or Senate:

1. Implement some oversight. Republicans have proven they cannot oversee themselves and will run off the rails without any checks or balances.

2. Try to get the Bush Republicans thinking about balancing the budget again like the Clinton Democrats did.

3. Try to get the Bush Republicans thinking about addressing the skyrocketing trade imbalances and jobs lost through outsourcing.

4. Try to get the Bush Republicans thinking about empowering ordinary people by moving us towards giving them better access to things that they need to be successful: affordable, good education and medical care for a start.

5. Try to get the Bush Republicans to start drawing down in Iraq as soon as possible. We’ve been there for 3 years and it’s only gotten worse and worse during our occupation. Our presence is not helping.

6. Get the nation thinking about energy alternatives and conservation so we are not so dependent on the Middle East.

And if Democrats can win the Presidency in 2008, get us back from the “I am always” right fringe to governing like moderate Clinton Democrats.

Has anyone noticed that the wRong wing fishwrap has virtually abandoned this blog since the citizens refuse to allow the rag to make it another tool of propaganda ??

Once exposed the wRong wing nuts retreat to their slimming shell !!

Hey wRapper,
Haven't you ever heard of a holiday weekend? Maybe the Inkquirer is using a skeletal crew to put out the fishwrap-paper product that pays its staff.
If you plunked down 50 cents Saturday or Monday, there was plenty of news.
If you're looking for in-depth or breaking news in a free blog you'll remain among the uninformed masses.

Instead of wining about lack of political news -- why don't you get off your sorry, blistered butts and do something about the problems in state and federal governments. There are plenty of candidates, campaign aides -- and concerned citizens -- working the streets and parades this July 4th weekend. Quit pointing fingers and do something about it.

The Chinese don't need missiles to sink the U.S. economy. They already control our debt, are stealing our jobs through slave labor, Target-ing us with cheap goods and clothes that fall apart -- yet utility companies and other greedy American corportions continue to prosper in the Communist country, building high-pollution power plants and selling unregulated tobacco and gas-guzzling cars.
