Blackwell gets national attention

Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, a Cincinnatian who is running for governor, is in the national spotlight today with a front-page story in The Washington Post.
Blackwell faces Democratic Rep. Ted Strickland in the Ohio governor's race.

The story profiles Blackwell and two other prominent black candidates who are running statewide as Republicans this fall: Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, who is running for the U.S. Senate, and former Pittsburgh Steelers star Lynn Swann, who is running for governor in Pennsylvania.

Read the story here.

UPDATE!

USA Today also had this story about Blackwell in the paper yesterday, as pointed out by a very astute White House staffer who reads our blog.

Ken Blackwell is a rising star in the Republican party. After he becomes the next Governor of Ohio, the sky's the limit. That's why the liberals are so terrified of his candidacy.

Campaign contributions are going to flow into his coffers after this national story bounces around the blogosphere a dozen times or so. Strickland may get some out-of-state contributions, but not nearly as much as Blackwell will receive. People all over America have already contributed to Ken Blackwell's campaign via the following website:

Interesting connection between Blackwell and Phil Heimlich. Both were keynote speakers at the "International Association of Character Cities," in 2004 and 2005, respectively. It's been widely reported that this organization is thinly-veiled front for fringe evangelist Bill Gothard, who runs a $64 million empire built on selling seminars and products of all kinds.

The Dean broke the story and there are informative links here.

Arizona state treasurer David Petersen is under investigation for taking commissions from the IACC for establishing the program in that state. As a result, Petersen lawyered up and has stated he won't run for the office again.

Word from an insider is that Phil Heimlich was running the program out of his office when he was a councilman. Since Heimlich gave the 2005 keynote speech to IACC, obviously he's still closely involved.

Malia, why doesn't an Enquirer reporter call Heimlich and the IACC office and ask if Heimlich received commissions from the IACC?

I wonder how long it will be until racist Democrats attack Mr. Blackwell for being a black Republican. Just ask Lt. Governor Steele how he's had Oreoes thrown at him.

Balckwell helped the GOP steal the elction in 2004. He's going to get plenty of money and he gets to oversee the vote counting this election. He should be behind bars, but the Enquirer will give him all the free press they can. This is one hell of a Republican rag.

Buckwheat blackwell will wish he never tried to suppress the brother vote as he soon becomes another (R)wrong wing paper weight !

Sorry, the white man is not going to feel gulty about buckwheat either.

Result - Buckwheat the Loser !!!

Blackwell is the king of conflict of interest...

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Taftwell getting money from all over the country. Every state in the Union (except Ohio) stands to gain from Taftwell being elected. Taftwell will make all the other states look better. He'll gut education, be it primary and secondary, university funding, or public libraries with his foolish TEL amendment. That will enhance the brain drain that Ohio has experienced from Bob Taft's failed policies. TEL and Taftwell will also gut public safety, first responders, and public health care dollars, so make sure you're not in Ohio when the bird flu hits.

Taftwell is bad for Ohio, but great for the image of every other state. Vote Taftwell and move Mississippi up a notch!

Ken Blackwell is a extremist right wing-nut. He panders to the American Taliban (the extremist wight wing religious nuts that want to dictate how we all live our lives, what we watch, read and listen to-just like the other Taliban). He has some wacky extremist views that are going to turn a lot of people off. He is also another corrupt Columbus politician, part of the bunch that needs to be tossed out of power.

Blackwell is personally responsible for the debacle in Ohio during the 2004 election. Add this to his conflict of interest in being, at the same time:

-The Secretary of State, responsible for overseeing a fair and impartial election.

-Chairman of the Bush-Cheney campaign in Ohio.

-A shareholder in Diebold, who received the contract to supply touch screen electronic voting machines for much of the state. Blackwell also decided that none of these Diebold machines will provide a paper receipt of the vote.

Blackwell switches parties and beliefs as the political winds blow. He will say or do anything as long as he gets some political capital out of it. Blackwell is a hypocrite and an extremist. The 'political pendulum' is swinging back to the left again, and voters are not going to buy into his divisive demagogery come November.

I think that the black community is smarter than to vote for Ken Blackwell simply because of the color of his skin. They need look no further than the discrepancy between the lines that people waited in to vote in the majority white suburbs versus the majority african american urban areas. Obviously, he cares a lot more about his aspirations and his party than he does his people.

What happened to my post? Do you only put up pro-Blackwell propaganda?

He did steal the 2004 election and should be behind bars? Can we really trust him to oversee his own election???

From 5-7-06 Toldedo Blade article on Strickland-Blackwell race:

Mr. Blackwell courted African-American voters for help in the primary. In Toledo, he appears to have failed. A sampling of some of the city's most predominantly African-American precincts shows only 4 percent of voters there selected Republican primary ballots on Tuesday, down from 9 percent in 2004 and 6 percent in 2002.

Malia or others, do you know what percentages of voters in predominently black precincts in Cincinnati voted for Blackwell?

BLACKWELL SUCKS! GO STRICKLAND- TAKE OUT THE TRASH!

at 11:30 AM, May 11, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Emma Morrow is mistaken. African Americans shouldn't vote for Taftwell simply because of his skin color. Voting for Taftwell only because he's black makes about as much sense as the racists who wouldn't vote for him for the same reason.

If you want huge cuts in education funding, vote Taftwell. If you want to wait an hour for an ambulence because your town wasn't allowed to put a levy on the ballot, vote Taftwell. If you want this state to continue to be the laughing-stock of the nation, vote Taftwell. If you want good government, vote Strickland. If you want progress, vote Strickland. And most importantly, if you actually want to keep your right to vote safe, vote Strickland and Brunner.

Don't you love how racist republicans like Emma are suddenly so concerned about the plight of the black community? "here's a clue Ohio Blacks", what a priceless comment. Emma talking down to the coloreds.

Electing Uncle Tom Blackwell would be a disaster for Ohio's black communities. Not to mention the rest of Ohio.

By the way Emma, I see that you live in Illinois. Keep your nose out of our states election and worry about your own state.

Emma's argument appears to be entirely based on her own opinion, since she hasn't provided any documentation. Be that as it may, let's examine it.

Her argument is that blacks must vote for Blackwell because she claims the Democratic Party has abandoned the interests of black people, therefore they should change horses.

The fundamental problem with her argument is that she provides no indication that Blackwell offers anything better to blacks.

My opinion is that Emma and others miss the point. First, the black population crosses all economic classes so the traditional black vote isn't what it used to be.

The failure of the Democratic party in recent decades has been to have distanced themselves from the poor and working class in a misstep to mimic Republicans who, it's universally agreed, never had any interest in those classes. Republicans have, of course, successfully done wonderous sleights of hand with the evangelical yahoos, who seem oblivious to the fact that they're being manipulated and losing economic ground.

Emma, as much as you want Blackwell to win, polls and common sense indicate he doesn't have much of a chance unless Strickland gets caught naked with a chicken. Perhaps you should pray on that?

I sort of like that Emma Morrow, and what she has to say.

What happened to my post? Do you only put up pro-Blackwell propaganda?

Don't ever expect Mulon Rulon to post anything other than her insecure (R)wrong wing slant on reality.

Buckwheat supressed the Black Vote with the attitude that he knows best who should vote and Mulon Rulon thinks she knows best what should be printed.

Mulon is a real piece of Schmidt !

At least KKKorte would permit comments contrary to his (R)wrong wing slants.

The public can see right through the censorship !

Buckwheat is a sell-out with what's in it for me !

Nice to know that the White House is doing PR for Taftwell. Maybe Bush's 34% approval rating in Ohio will rub off on him.

Oh please nig**. If anyone really wanted to clean up over-the-rhine it could have been done a long time ago.

There is too much money in corruption !

Now that the county is on patrol you see massive busts from the corrupt FOP. Where where the busts before. Perhaps, it was easier to shake down and look the other way.

Si gets federal money everytime there is a suspect in his jail. It is a money machine.

Remove the plank from your eye !

While Blackwell is receiving National attention, the national media as well as the state wide media is forgetting that Blackwell is for Blackwell and not for anyone else.

In 1976 he supported Jimmy Carter for President.

He use to be more liberal than Ted Kennedy.

at 9:35 PM, May 12, 2006 Anonymous Anonymous said...

It is good for Ken to get all this attention. It may be the last chance to be in the media spotlight.

As of yesterday, 4 Republican Governors in one year have been indicted. KY's Fletcher, the Gov of Conn, the Gov of Ill and of course Gov Taft.

As a Republican Blackwell needs to overcome the Republican culture of corruption.

Will Blackwell dare to appear with President Bush and Karl Rove? Will Bush campaign for Blackwell?

Will Blackwell campaign for Congressman Ney?

An "astute" White House source?
The USA Today commentator writes: "Is this the year of the black Republican?"
Is he aware that Ohio Treasurer Jennette Bradley, a black Republican and the state party's favorite, got upset by an unknown upstart from Ashtabula County???
It's the first time since 1974, when U.S. Sen. Howard Metzenbaum lost to John Glenn, that an incumbent statewide official lost in an Ohio primary. How about writing about that national pundits?

Perhaps Ken Blackwell will be that bridge to freedom the Black Community has craved so long.

Emma Morrow: a selfless, caring individual who has no hidden agenda except to be a friend to the "Black Community."

As Cincinnati sees shooting after shooting of black grandmothers waiting for the bus to take them to work, as gangs roam Over the Rhine, as the sneakers over the phonelines move into YOUR neighborhoods, the Majority of Blacks crave the safety of good, sober neighbors, not Black Fist brothers of General Kabaka Aba.

Here's the Willie Horton routine again, the same one white pols have used for generations. Create a climate of fear using "scary" black people and claim voting for your candidate is the solution. The only difference here from the traditional model is that this time around the candidate (Blackwell) is black.

Conservative Living IS in the best interests of the Ohio Black Community.

I'm dying to know the answer to this one, Emma. What exactly is "conservative living?"

An Emma Morrow post (from the Jim McDermott item comments):

Emma Morrow said...

Collecting everyone's Phone Bill is a GREAT tool, a SERIOUS tool, the kind of Weapon Against Terror that you use when you are SERIOUS about PROTECTING AMERICA.

I'm VERY GLAD that the NSA is looking through our old phone bills, I think this tool could turn up many patterns of calls to Afganistan and Iraq we need to know about.

EXCELLENT PROGRAM!!! We just might win this thing yet!!

While the government spends all its time combing through Emma and Heywood J. Bloughme's phone records and other personal information, Al-Qaida is busy using walkie talkies and disposable phone cards. Why aren't they spending OUR $1 billion-a-week in tax dollars on finding OSAMA BIN LADEN? Do you feel any safer having them take away all YOUR rights? Wake up America!!!

The Coloreds of Ohio had better be ready to support one of there own for Governor! You people are can't have it both ways, but nothing ever seems to make you happy!

Conservative living would be good for all of the coloreds, in Ohio and elsewhere.

There's no way we should allow any more Mexicans into my country. As an African America man, I'm personally disgusted with the whole Latino Movement using the themes of Rev Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Platform.

Those illegals aren't even worth using bullets, just send some Krip bros down to the border and see what happens, eh?

Bush might be right to send troops down there, but as long as Mexicans keep taking jobs away from the black man we are going to fight back, and not with just words.
