Hartmann: Investigate Cuyahoga

Republican Greg Hartmann, the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts, faces Democrat Jennifer Brunner for Secretary of State this fall.

Both were unopposed in the primary this week; for the record, Brunner got 580,999 votes to Hartmann's 433,662, according to the Secretary of State's office.

Hartmann issued this press release today:

Secretary of State Candidate Greg Hartmann Applauds Secretary of State Investigation of Cuyahoga County
Board of Elections
Says voting errors in Cuyahoga County are unacceptable.

COLUMBUS-May 5, 2006- Greg Hartmann, candidate for Secretary of State, today applauded the investigation of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections and called on the Secretary of State to extend that investigation to all election operations in that county.
"I commend Secretary Blackwell for taking swift action on this matter, but there’s more to be done. The voting problems in Cuyahoga County are unacceptable in today's modern voting environment. Citizens in Ohio's largest county deserve to know why their election system isn't working." Hartmann said.

"The mishaps and blunders in the Primary Election in this county are completely unacceptable. As Ohio's Chief Elections Officer I’ll protect and preserve the integrity of Ohio's elections system to ensure that every eligible voter is encouraged and permitted to vote."

Noting that the voter turnout in Cuyahoga County was only 19%, Hartmann questioned whether Cuyahoga County will be able to handle the increased turnout in the fall, "In November when two or three times that amount of citizens will vote, Cuyahoga County's Board of Elections must be capable of handling a significant increase in turnout. Only through a strict and thorough investigation by the Secretary of State’s office can we be assured a fair election," Hartmann concluded.

Greg Hartmann represents the next generation of leadership in Ohio. As the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts, Greg has earned a national reputation for modernizing the office and making it more accountable to taxpayers. During the last two fiscal years, Greg has returned nearly $2 million to taxpayers, and he's been a leader in protecting Ohioans from identity theft.

Greg's professional career includes private sector experience managing West Coast operations for Airline Distribution Services, Inc. Greg served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Hamilton County, where he prosecuted thousands of criminal cases including many involving violent felonies.

Hartmann and his wife Tracy are raising their four children in Cincinnati.

More bias fromthe Republican rag.

How about having Ken Blackwell account for all the amazing "anomilies" in the 2004 election in Ohio?

Secretary of State candidate Tim Kettler of the Green Party was a part of the investigation.

Blackwell should be behind bars.

"As the clerk of courts, Greg Hartman also supervised a website that allowed for gross and widespread identify theft."

He supervised the revitalization of that website so that identity theft was nearly impossible. With millions of documents that can not legally block social security numbers it is hard to make it impossible, and after Hartmann took office almost all documents are off that website. The website however, was created before he was Clerk, his efforts to fix the website have been phenomenal.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but does Brunner have an association with the Cuyahoga BOE?

Sounds like the liberal wackjobs are still crying over the 2000 & 2004 elections. Keep your Kleenex handy, libs - you'll need it after Ken Blackwell wins in November and Congress stays in Republican hands. It must suck to be you.

Congrats again to the next Governor of Ohio, Ken Blackwell!

And hats off to the next Ohio Secretary of State, Greg Hartmann.

CARL WEISER OR WEBMASTER: IT'S SUNDAY - WHERE'S THE OPEN THREAD?

To the liberal conspiracy theorists on this blog:

We all know that it's Bush's, Blackwell's, and Diebold's fault

...that the democRATS keep losing national, state, and local elections. Right?

Better re-adjust your tin foil hats - President Bush and the NSA can monitor your innermost thoughts with an ultra-secret mind control device [made by Diebold, of course]. But you already knew that, didn't you?

Maybe you'd like to share some other conspiracies with us? C'mon - enlighten us all with your brilliance.

Hartman's going to have a tough time actually running for a position. He's so used to either being appointed, or running against nominal opposition, he's not going to know what happens when Jennifer Brunner runs him over this fall. Jennifer, unlike greg, knows what the Secretary of State does. She's an accomplished attorney, a brilliant former judge, and she has actually had to work for a living, rather than take advantage of family connections. Go Jennifer.

As a real Identity Theft Victim in Hamilton County, his website allowed me to be a victim of $78,000.00. The person that stole my identity was an ex girlfriend, but she got all the information she needed right from his website. All of this guy's defenders should realize he didn't take the personal information off until he was forced to. And as a former Republican, I can say that the Republicans who run this county did nothing. They are truly soft on white collar crime

Anon 11:26 that has to be the worst play on a name I've ever seen. And no one in Texas is buying anything, look at Hartmann's reports, our wonderful Cincinnati financial suppliers are right by Greg's side, which pretty much means he's got it in the bag.

Also what do you have to say to Mark Weaver doing his media and consulting? I highly doubt any Dem will beat Weaver this fall.

To whichever Jennifer Brunner staffer is on these blogs...

What has Brunner managed in her life? The Secretary of State's office is all about management of a huge staff and a massive budget. You have to be a management genius in order to make 88 counties and their precincts happy on election day. Not only that, the main role of the SOS's office to maintain records, many of those records deal with new small businesses. You have to manage a staff full of election experts, as well as document keeping experts. It's basically like running a huge Clerks office.

So why is Hartmann the right guy?

Not only has Greg managed a small business, he now manages 300+ employees as Clerk of Courts for Hamilton County, and also controls a huge budget. He was also an assistant prosecutor, and he understands record keeping, and doing it in a smart way. I feel sorry for whoever had their identity stolen, but you must understand it's happened elsewhere, we just haven't heard about it because no ones running for public office from those counties. It is nearly impossible to sift through 6 million documents that have already been posted on a website.

Why is Hartmann the right Republican?

Besides the experience needed to run the office, Hartmann has experience returning money to taxpayers. Something all of us Ohioans are VERY foreign to. I believe the number is up to $3 million that has been given back to the taxpayers by eliminating it from the Clerks budget. He also called for the resignation of Boob Taft, something not many up and coming republicans had the balls to do.

I hope all the demo-nazis realize that Brunner is just a pick for the party, and that while we look wounded and crawling, the Republican party is strong and will unite like always in 2006. I can't believe that after 2004, the year everyone thought the Democratic party was done for, they come back saying that the other party is weak. If the democrats were smart, they'd have their guard up, they'd be scared more than ever and not calling the opposition weak and battered, but strong and thriving, so that they may work harder than ever to attempt victory. Will it work? No. But I guarantee you'd get more done being aggresive than a teasing little girl on the playground. Your first mistake was making Howard Dean chairman.

He clearly has the experience needed to post private information on public websites, making identity theft as easy as taking candy from a baby. He'll pick up right where Blackwell left off.
