McEwen ad up on radio

Republican Bob McEwen, a former congressman from southern Ohio who is challenging Rep. Jean Schmidt in the 2nd District GOP primary May 2, unveiled his first campaign ad today.

The ad says McEwen, who served in the House from 1980 to 1992, is needed back in Congress to restore reform, fiscal responsibility and Republican values in Congress, and "bring back the pride."

Listen to the spot here.

yes siree, bring back the honor and pride that Schmidt and her ilk have taken away with foolish antics and mean-spirited attacks upon us veterans.

We need a real congressman representing us. Not a tin-horn.

Bob McEwen left Congress 14 years ago. What has he done in the meantime?

Also -where does he live? As a lobbyist, he undoubtedly has a gorgeous home in Northern Virginia.

Where does he hang his hat around these parts? In some fleabag hotel room in downtown Cincinnati?

Bouncing Bob's going to bring back pride? Doesn't he remember the House Bank Scandal? That man was an embarassment.

Its been a long time, so I forget the details -- but wasn't the "House Bank Scandal" referred to by the above blogger called "rubbergate" by the media?

It was just a bunch of guys who were regularly overdrawing on their Clerk of the House checking accounts, or something like that.

But the Keating Five - that was a real scandal. But that's been a really long time ago, and I've certainly forgotten the details on that one.

Except that someone from Cincinnati was involved.

Anon 5:19 am: I don't know what's worse for your cause: that you don't know McEwen lives in anderson township or that you do. If you don't know, then it is a matter of simple ignorance, easily corrected. If you did know, then you have just insulted every Anderson Township resident. Yes, Bob lives in Anderson Township. Yes, it's a 2-bedroom condo. This is common for empty-nesters, BTW. Yes, McEwen's home in Northern Virginia is worth $800,000. It's hard to find a home not about to be condemned for less than a half million in that market. But, as Mean Jean's twin sister, who is a realtor (and your obsession with location, location, location gives yourself away) you should know that already.

Just stopped in for a minute... Glad I did...

Where did Bob McEwen claim as his primary place of residence when he filed his 2004 federal tax return? That was a time period before anybody knew that Rob Portman would move onto another position in government. That is the question that you should be asking. For the record, I filled out our tax return in Waverly, Ohio in a house that costs way less than $800,000 - $900,000. Actually, it cost nearly one tenth of that price...

You see, I am a member of the American Middle Class and that is who I will be fighting for the next 50 and 1/2 days... I support a MIDDLE CLASS TAX CUT for EVERY FAMILY that earns less than $100,000 per year. That's MOST of the people who live in this Congressional District.

I am not going to sit back and watch our Congressional District be taken over by Liars, Loopholes and Lobbyists! The fight is on!

Lets talk about "location, location, location."

Like Batavia and Sharonville and our soon-to-be-closed automotive plants there.

Neither Schmidt nor McEwen has the faintest idea of what to do with regard to the loss of our industrial base.

So in that regard, either or both of them can move out to Elk Lick or Stringtown, for all I care.

However (and its easy enough to find out via financial disclosure reports): exactly where in "Northern Virginia" does Bob McEwen "have his home?"

$800k is basically diddly-squat for McLean,Virginia. Presumably, he might have paid $800k for it a number of years ago, but what would it sell for today? Oh. And where does he have his homestead exemption?

I think that in the years since he was kicked out by the voters, that Bob has been a lobbyist in Washington. He does have a pretty nice place up in Fairfax Station, Virginia. According to records, it is worth $862,000 or so. When the Congressional seat opened with Portman's retirement, he carpetbagged his way into a $105,000 apartment in Anderson. While in Washington, McEwen spent a lot of time as the lobbyist for the hybrid Islamic-Communist country of Uzbekistan. Jean Schmidt, on the other hand, has always lived here. She stood up to John Murtha, and has stood up against illegal immigration. She has an absolutely exemplary record in Congress, and has won the endorsements of just about everybody. The President, Speaker of the House, Majority Leader, National Rifle Association, the Pro-Life movement, everybody. Go Jean.

I don't think its fair to call Bob McEwen "a Carpetbagger" anymore than it was for Hillary Clinton to refer to Congress as "a plantation."

He does have roots here. True, it was a long time ago, and he was kicked out by the voters.

Why doesn't someone at The Enquirer do a feature on all of the public-service minded things he has done since he was kicked out of Congress (by the voters) in 1992?

Was he building Habitats for Humanity? Did he go overseas and join the Peace Corps?

Nope. He was enjoying the lush life in DC.

It looks like Mean Jean's Young Hitlers have finally returned from the Fatherland to support their woman. What do you guys think of Mean Jean referring to Ronald Reagan delegates as, "young Hitlers"? She has a knack for being obnoxious when disagreeing with people, kind of like Howard Dean.

I think we should look at each candidate's record. Congressman Bob McEwen consistently voted for Ronald Reagan's conservative agenda. Meanwhile, State Rep Mean Jean Schmidt rubber stamped Bob Taft's tax increases and the rest of his failed agenda. The Reagan Republican has it all over the Bob Taft Republican.

Mean Jean's Nazis can chew on that.

Let's all stop and think about something... One of the 5 Democratic candidates is going to be running against either Bob McEwen or Jean Schmidt... And it just might be me.

I've been campaigning my heart out for you since September 2005. I've visited more than 1,000 homes and am trying to make it to 1,500 more before May 2nd. I talk with every person I meet in Southern Ohio and ask them to take up the fight for my cause. I am the ONLY DEMOCRAT in this race who will not raise your taxes. I have 15 years worth of healthcare management and leadership experience. I respect every person in our District - Democrat, Republican, Indpendent and the people who do not vote... I support every hunter from here to Canada. My family actually lives in Ohio. I believe in healthcare coverage for every child in America. I want to fight for a middle class tax cut for families that earn less than $100,000 per year and an expansion of the child tax credit from age 17 up to age 18 (and to age 24 for families with dependents who are full-time students.) I want the weekend warriors of Southern Ohio to come home after drill for dinner.

Not any Democrat will win in November. Given my ideas and my sincere and HONEST belief in the incredible people that I have met throughout this campaign... I just might...

I am doing my part for you. My only regret is that I won't be able to meet ALL of the people who live in the 7 counties in our Congressional District before election day. But if I win, I will become the door to door Congressman from Southern Ohio for as long as the people who live here will allow me to represent them. I will never stop meeting the people who live in Southern Ohio and asking you about the problems in our daily lives.

I've blown road dust on more Bob McEwen red, white and blue signs as I've driven past them and right into the towns of Southern Ohio than most people will ever see. Then I get out of my car and start talking with people with what's wrong in America. And they believe in what I am trying to do...

Here's a challenge to Bob or Jean (or any of the other candidates for that matter...) Can anybody tell me where in Southern Ohio the jug on the counter of a local business for the 11 year old girl with leukemia is located? I doubt it. Bob, you have all that money in your campaign warchest. Why don't you go put some of it into that girl's healthcare jug? I'll give both campaigns 24 hours to send out their young staffers and post the answer on this site. I say that because I know that they won't look for the answer themselves. And I doubt that they will ever find it because I don't think that they care...

I WANT TO SAVE MEDICARE FOR THE BABY BOOM GENERATION. The clock is ticking on that program. I WANT TO SOLVE THE HEALTHCARE CRISIS FOR THE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES OF AMERICA. Bob McEwen and Jean Schmidt aren't ever going to do that for you. They have both had their chance.

IT IS TIME FOR THEM TO GO!

Jim Parker, MBA/MHA
Democratic Candidate for US Congress
Southern Ohio - 2nd District - 2006

The challenge is on - Where is that little girl's healthcare jug?

These jokers don't even know their own District... and they either don't understand or they don't care about the problems that people who live in Southern Ohio have in their daily lives...

I promise to make a contribution to that little girl's healthcare fund every time I drive past her healthcare jug from now until the end of this campaign. Then, maybe I'll actually get to solve the problem instead of just live with it like we all have had to do for years.

Bob and Jean won't solve it. They have had their chance. It is time for them to go.

Jim Parker - A Different Kind of Congressman

And kind of like Jeff!

Besides, didn't you know it's only a matter of time until EVERYONE is compared to Hitler? If McEwen's strategy is to cheapen the Holocaust by tossing around the name of that tyrant, and calling Schmidt a "wicked witch," he doesn't stand much of a chance. Hey Bill, can you show where Schmidt directly attacked veterans personally for their service and being veterans, or are you misguidedly criticizing Jean's statements against immediately cutting and running from Iraq?

I can hardly blame Jim Parker for jumping on the opportunity to claim this seat brought on by McEwen's decision to split the party.
