As city feted Mallory, Crowley had his own party

Councilman David C. Crowley said he wasn't boycotting Mayor Mark Mallory's inaugural speech and reception at Union Terminal Thursday -- but admitted he wasn't going to go out of his way to attend, either.

"I was not making a statement, but I will admit to you that it was more comfortable for me not to be there," Crowley said in a voicemail late Thursday after returning home from the party.

Crowley said he was holding his own reception for campaign supporters -- something he had planned weeks ago -- while the mayor was introducing his tripartisan "team" of eight other council members on the Union Terminal stage.

The third-term Democrat publicly split from that team Thursday when he gave an inaugural speech lamenting Mallory's decision not to give him a committee chairmanship.

Crowley also e-mailed this clarification of the "death pact" he made with Laketa Cole, in which each would agree to name each other's successor. By saying "Cole came to him" with her successor designation form, he did not mean to imply it was her idea as was reported Thursday, he said:
What I said was that we each arrived at that decision independently and almost simultaneously. I had already signed my form and 10 minutes later was told Laketa wanted to see me. I walked into her office on my way into Chambers and she asked whom I had designated. I answered, "you." She then turned over her form to show me my name as her successor. We did not plan it that way. That was how we both felt at that time.

My goodness is their a crack in the great Cole/Crowley team. I'm still waiting for someone to tell me something, anything, that Crowley has done on Council that shows that he is an effective council person and is deserving of a committee chair position.

I don't actually expect anyone to do this so lets just cut to the chase, Crowley is a roadblock to moving this city forward. His behavior has been petty and indicative of why city council has been ineffective in the past.

Crowley should just resign and save some face

Either that or be a man, suck it up, and help move this city forward.

But perhaps you option is better for the city.

Its probably a good idea for Cole to distance herself from the USS Crowley as it goes down. I've said before, if nothing else Cole is a survivor. I think she will be smart enought to realize that Crowley will only take her down with him.

What a coincidence- dumb minds think alike, they both just happened to name the other as successor! Wonder if they also traded living will and power of attorney privileges...

BS- Crowley's party started later, he could have attended the mayor's ceremony first-wouldn't be the first time Crowley was late for his own party-literally and figuratively...

I got the invite. Crowley's party started at 5pm and was scheduled weeks ago.

To all you Crowley haters..get a life. you really have nothing better or more construstive to do? You must be Malllory staff or just lonely.

Crowley has a long list of legislative accomplishments. Reinstating Title X for clean air, keeping the metro buses running, brokering a compromise for Lunken Airport, passing hate crimes legislation to protect GLBT citizens...just to name a few.

What has Mallory done in Columbus other than cut back room deals? If this is the start he is off to imagine where we'll be in 6 months. Believe me this is not something caused by Crowley. Mallory will lose support quicker than his bloggers lose credibility, and dates.

Crowley's party is a bs excuse. He is simply a petty, self-serving, classless individual, who has shown himslef to be completely ineffective and worthless as a council member and not worthy of a committee chair.

Missing the party was just part of Crowleys classless, petty behavior the past few days. This was just the final piece that fits in with his other destructive behavior. Crowley should resign.

Oh good, so legislative accomplishments.
1. He cosponsored the reinactment of title X with Cranley, but as with everything he does with Cranley, he wasn’t the one who was pushing for it. See council document 200408421.
2. How do you figure that Crowley kept the buses running. Lets see, Cranley actually did that. I direct you council document 200509471
3. Now that’s an interesting one, there are two ordinances proposed by Crowley that have been indefinitely postponed (200408461 and 200408440). That’s an effective way of advocating you positions and getting things done.
4. He did co-sponsor a motion to amend the hate crimes laws with Cranley (again the proposal is on Cranley’s office letterhead) see document 200306258. As I recall the legislation was passed, but I can’t find it.

Anyway, the point is that Crowley is completely ineffective as a councilmember. If other members of council didn’t let him sign on to their proposals he would have absolutely nothing to show for himself.

By the way, thanks for the personal attacks, but don't be upset becasue I've been talking to hot chicks allday online Napoleon.

By the way all those documents are available to the public on the city's website. http://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/council/pages/-3665-/

The enquirer has two articles, one on January 24, 2003 and the other on February 3, 2003 that identify Cranley as the one pushing the hate crimes legislation.

Is there anything else Crowley would like to falsly claim he has accomplished.

Where were all of these Crowley haters before the election? Or is it just since he crossed swords with Mallory?

I wouldn't be surprised if Mallory and Crowley don't reconcile in the next week.

The Crowley/Cole team is going to divide the city. Cole should leave Crowley in his grave or else she will be digging one for her self. And I never said I wasn't for gay rights.

I'm Mallory and Crowley will reconcile, as they should. But an reconciliation will come from Mallory's skill as a consensus builder. Crowley has shown that he is not interested in working with others, but if anyone can bring him into the fold it is Mallory.

I have not been a fan of Crolwey for some time, but until the past few days he has been harmless. However, when he starts publicly trying to hurt the city I take offence.

P.S., not sure who posted under DC at 4:17am

DC your getting a little obsessed aren't you? Get a life. Still haven't heard of one thing Mallory has done other than make backroom deals with lobbyists to pay off campaign debts. No way to govern.

Unlike Mallory Crowley tries to work with others rather than alienate them, you have made my point exactly. Thanks.

Best of luck with your internet hot chicks.

No doubt Crowely will rise above the fray as he has always done.

Ah yes, the old bait and switch argument. Well I can't defend Crowley so lets attack Mallory. I know it is difficult to defend Crowley's petty, classless behavior. Its even harder to give any valid reason why he should be a committee chair.

Crowley does not play well with others, that is abundantly clear from his actions the past few days. Of course this latest conduct is just an example of his behind the scenes conduct during his time on council. I'm sure Crowley will continue to cry about his lack of personal accolades, but eventually he will get back to doing nothing. At least now when he does nothing he won't be a committee chair.

Thanks for wishing me luck. I met this hot chick named Lafonda.

Crowley's staff were well known to be Pepper people- which made many folks think Crowley was too. Wonder if they're wishing they'd kept their pieholes shut...
