And on the second day, he rested

Mayor Mark Mallory was not in his office today. Staffers said he was taking the day off after a busy week of organizing City Council and preparing for his inauguration Thursday.

Was Crowley out also. Perhaps he was still crying and attempting to get you to change the topic from his petty, classless conduct.

The problem is that Crowley's meltdown is much more entertaining and relevant than anything you could come up with to change the subject. The focus should be on the fact that Crowley does not want to move this city forward. He chooses to conduct himself in a manner that creates chaos in our city government. Crowley should resign.

Okay, I bought the "end the chaos" rhetoric. I'm neutral in the Mallory/Crowley war (they're both good men, if a little liberal for me). I kept an open mind about the motorcade. And I'm sincerely optimistic about the future of our city.

But if the mayor doesn't get to work -- and soon -- I'm going to fall off the bandwagon with a thud so loud you'll hear it in Westwood.

When I get married, I'm not squandering my honeymoon like this.

DC,
Why are you popping up with Crowley libel no matter what the content of the original post?

Crowley's not have a meltdown, he is just trying to represent the thousands and thousands of people that voted for him the best he can.

Just because he's not taking Mallory's backhanded slap to the face lying down doesn't mean he's a "crazy old man" like you pretend. He's fighting for the respect that he he earned, and the respect that he deserves.

Alright Andrew, lets go with that argument. He is simply trying to represent the people who voted for him in the best way possible. Do you really beleive that he is doing any service to the city or the people who voted for him? How does giving out the mayors personal phone number and urging people to call him at all hours of the night help the city? How does walking out of a meeting halfway through because he didn't get some personal recognition help the city? How does making an angry, negative speech when every other member of council is talking about working together help the city? How does skipping an event intended to bring the new council together help the city? All of his actions have been negative and are not meant to advocate for the people who voted for him. What is he really standing up against, the fact that Mallory exercised his sole power to appoint effective committee chairs?

You also say that he is fighting for the respect he has earned and deserves. Since when is it disrespectful to not appoint an ineffective member of council as a committee chair. Mallory has handled the situation with class and has said nothing negative about Crowley. In fact Mallory went out of his way to mention Crowley in a positive way at the swearing in ceremony. Crowley's actions the past few days certainly don't validate any claim for "respect". His actions as a council member and committee chair certainly don't give him any entitlement to a committee chair position. He has been ineffective during his time on council and has accomplished nothing. I've asked other people on the blogs to come up with anything substantive that Crowley has done on council. So far people have either not responded or pointed to things that other council members have done.

So in conclusion, Crowley should suck it up, be a man, and help to move this city forward. If he is not interested in moving the city forward he should resign.

And we're off to a great start! Mayor takes the day off & there's a shoot 'em up in OTR around 10PM last night.

I suppose it's Mallory's way of announcing it's open hunting season on the police & everyone who supports law & order. I guess that's what he meant with his "end the chaos" blather - start the hunting season & thin the herd of chaos makers.

You still have time to save yourselves!

Whew...All of that swearing in and posing for self portraits has him exhausted.

I was a big Mallory fan during the election but he is turning out to be a real bust. When is he going to get to work? So far he has been involved in a lot of controversy. I thought Luken was bad.

Honestly a self portrait on the first day? What an ego...he hasn't done anthing yet. TIme will tell, I hope I am wrong.

I'm sure DC loves the fact that he or she can hide behind the cloud of anonymity. He/She loves the power and the ability to send personal attacks throughout our community.

If he was a real man or woman, he would reveal him or herself and engage in a real debate...one that doesn't include personal attacks.

I love it when anons complain about other people being anonymous.

I know it must be frustrating to not be able to come up with an argument for why Crowley is ineffective and not worthy of a committee chair position. If I was unable to make coherent arguments I would try to change the subject also. Fortunatly for me I have the ability to make good rationale arguments as to why Crowley's behavior is a roadblock to moving this city forward. Please, feel free to address these issues. Or, continue to try and attack me. I don't really care what you say about me, all it does is prove my point that Crowley is worthless.

If you are adamant about DC revealing who he/she truly is, then why are you posting anonymously? Is that a little hypocritical?

By the way, what personal attacks. All I've done is asked for anyone to bring up any substanative accomplishment that Crowley has had. Thusfar nobody has brought up anything that has not been promptly refuted. I don't make personal attacks because I don't have any problem with Crowley as a person. My problems are only related his actions the past few days and his ineffectiveness as a council member. Do you dispute these assertions? If so, please explain them. I'm very happy to engage anyone in debate as I find it to be a very democratic way to resolve issues. I find it unfortunate that you feel the need to hide behind a rather petty, ancillary issue in refusing to engage in debate.

Better watch out, Warner. You're starting to sound like Crazy Nate Livingston talking about libel without knowing what you're talking about. Crowley's a public figure. Unless DC was going around calling him gay, or a traitor, Crowley would probably have no standing in a libel suit. Besides, DC's calling him a bitter old man, and a roadblock to progress in the city, and the truth is the best defense against libel.

Libel isn't always tortious. As in DC's case, it can also be tortuous.

All this libel talk is making me shake in by boots. Perhaps someone can tell which of my statements is libel. Is Crowley not ineffective as a councilmember? Despite this ineffectivness and petty, classless behavior should he have been appointed as a committee chair? Why? The truth is that Crowley has not accomplshed one substanitive thing as a council member or a committee chair. He simply got bitter because he did not get hes personal accolades from Mallory. He then proceeded to give out the mayors personal phone number and asked his supporters to harrass the mayor at all hours of the night. After that he made a negative, destructive speech at the swearing in ceremony that shows that he is a roadblock to moving this city forward. His final act of not showing up at the second ceremony, aside from being petty and classless, just shows that he has an inability to work with others.

But hey, you keep citing Websters online dictionary as a legal source, and I'll keep speaking the truth about why Crowley is ineffecting councilmember and unworthy of a committee chair position.

He has to be one of the laziest politicians I've ever heard of. What would he do if the riots happened again? Collapse from exhaustion? How many sick days does the Mayor get? Do "mental health" days count? They don't in my office. How much is he paid per day? He should return Friday's paycheck to the city. 130 lb. wimp.

A certain reporter could learn a lesson from the new Mayor and give this anti-Mallory bias a rest!
