Harris in, Winburn out, surprise coming Friday
Democrat Greg Harris says he will, indeed file Friday morning to run for Hamilton County Commissioner Pat DeWine's seat. DeWine isn't seeking re-election, running instead for Common Pleas Court judge, so Harris will go up against Republican Greg Hartmann, who currently serves as Hamilton County Clerk of Courts.
Harris expressed hesitation about the race Thursday citing a potential conflict of interest because he sits on a governor workforce development board. But late in the day he confirmed he is, indeed running. If elected, he'll work out the conflict then.
In the meantime, former City Council Candidate Charlie Winburn, who'd taken out petitions to run as a Republican for Hamilton County Commission confirmed he will not follow through. Winburn said instead, he's decided to throw "100 percent of my support" behind Republican Hartmann for the seat. Winburn isn't done with politics though. He says he plans to run for city council again in 2010.
And the Hamilton County Republican Party will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. to announce their endorsed candidate to run against Democratic Hamilton County Commissioner Todd Portune. The party's won't give any hints, but says it's not Ed Rothenberg, the jail tax opponent who has already filed as a Republican opponent against Portune. Portune plans to file for re-election Friday as well. The Enquirer will have a full wrap up after the 4 p.m. deadline.

Um, isn't the next City Council race in 2009, not 2010?
I don't know if that error came from the Enquirer or from Winburn, but I would absolutely support Winburn running for Council...in 2010. Better than having him run during the actual election, I say.
(Oh, c'mon. When you get a chance for a free throw like that, you gotta take it.)

Anybody but Portune must win. Portune deserves to lose along with the arrogant Si Leis when they run again for ramming the Jail Tax Levy against the will of the people.
Winburn shouldn't bother to run in 2009, he's a has been who has contributed to our current problems. We want new faces not the same old self-serving politicians like Winburn.
One problem WE here in Cincinnati don t seem to relize is NO matter who we put in office there will still be a probem. Elected officials can t change Cincinnati, its up to us as citizens to come together. But insted we sit with each other discussing the problems. How about lets stop talking about elected officials and deal with where the real problems are, the STREETS. After all a change would come if a city of people worked together insted of the few working down town.Plus what are you getting out of getting on here blasting these people and awrard I DONT THINK SO. Get your life together or better yet YOU run!
If Harris doesn't (can't) win an open seat will he please finally stop running for public office?
Winburn Was afraid of getting blown around the beltway again!!
What did the powers that be promise Winburn? Surely wasn't a council seat.
The Hamilton County Republican Party is POORLY run and pooly supports and organizes it's candidates. Having the (R) endorsement is a sure defeat. What a shame for a former great Party. To be continued.
Winburn's running against Dale Mallory for the 32nd seat.
