After reading the transcript, I still don't hve a good enough reason to vote for this sales tax. Part of my problem is that when the commissioners decided to override the vote the last time the jail tax was on the ballot, it became very difficult to trust them (for me at least). I don't believe anything they say...and I'm sure I'm not the only one. They probably already have a plan to institute this tax whether issue 27 passes or not.
The only thing I learned about that is that DeWine is full of nonsense. He has no plan, no answers, and half the things he says contradict things he said nine months ago.
This is a vote on the plan itself. If you don't like any of the particular commissioners (or how they did it), vote em out in 08 or 10. But if you want to improve safety, and solve a long-term challenge that no one has faced for years, then consider the plan on its own merits.
3:16 anon - I agree. The more Pepper/Portune/Leis/Deters talk, the more disgusted I become.
Dewine asks if the plan to reduce recidivism is so good, why would we also need a new jail >> Pepper goes mealy-mouthed >> "well, ahem, we're only planning to reduce the rate of increase."
Dewine spoke in generalities and refused to give any specifics as to how he would solve the safety issue. For some reason he can't understand that the plan that was voted down last year was different than the one enacted by Pepper and Portune.
I don't blame them for enacting it on their own. They knew that if they put it to a vote they would have to wade through all the ignorance and lies like they are doing now.
If this gets voted down, I hope all you who vote No are happy with the extra 3-4 cents in your pocket when you're getting mugged or your car gets stolen.
When issue 27 gows down to defeat, I hope the citizens of Cincinnati will remember how this was forced upon us after we said no and in turn say no to Portune, Pepper, and most of all Leis at election time.
1) Dangerous people are being released to the streets? If that's true & Sheriff Leis is renting out jail space (without authority), he should be tarred & feathered. 2)I'm going to get "mugged & my car stolen" - seriously? 3)We won't have space to jail marijuana smokers, homeless people & people who make "unauthorized" improvements to their homes? Good.
we have over 2,900 outstanding warrants for domestic violence -- cry me a river for Marcus Fiesl and then vote against the new jail and expanded programs.

NO! Bring back Bob Bedinghaus.

This is a debate David Pepper, Todd Portune, and Simon Leis didn't want to have. They didn't trust us, why would I trust them?

VOTE NO ON ISSUE 27!
Exactly what is the "safety issue"?
1) Dangerous people are being released to the streets? If that's true & Sheriff Leis is renting out jail space (without authority), he should be tarred & feathered.
2)I'm going to get "mugged & my car stolen" - seriously?
3)We won't have space to jail marijuana smokers, homeless people & people who make "unauthorized" improvements to their homes? Good.
Answers please?
9:19 anon - Come voting time, I will remember Pepper, Leis & also Deters. I still hold out hope for Portune.

that makes no sense.
