Ghiz, Thomas on Loud Car Stereos

Here's more of that bipartisan activity council members have been talking about:

Leslie Ghiz and Cecil Thomas will introduce their plan Tuesday to council's Law & Public Safety committee, of which they are vice chairwoman and chairman, respectively. The proposed ordinance would increase penalties for violating the city's law against loud car stereos. The new fines: $250 for a first offense (it's $150 now); $350 for a second offense within a year and $500 for a third offense within a year. After the third offense, the ordinances proposes, police could impound the car and charge the owner fees to get it back.

Ghiz said police in Cleveland, Chicago, St. Louis, Lorain, Ohio and Akron already have the option of impound loud-stereo cars.

Law committee meets Tuesdays at 2 p.m. in council chambers.

I really don't mind the loud stereos - it's the vulgaqr, explicit profanity that too often comes with it.

don't they already have a law about profanity on the books?

When is Leslie Ghiz going follow through on her 2005 campaign promise to cut Council salaries?

http://blogs.citybeat.com/porkopolis/2006/11/carefully_contr.html

"One substantive complaint against Ghiz is her lack of action on a campaign pledge to reduce council members’ salaries. When asked, Ghiz has said she’s waiting to introduce such a proposal until sometime in 2007, a council election year when she can leverage support from other members and have better odds at passage."

This loud sound system ordinance is going to catch the same grief that the weed ticket ordinance is getting. How many people are going to get pulled over & ticketed for blaring hillbilly music? Is Dad going to get written up for having the ballgame turned up too loud because his hearing aid is in for repairs?

I can clench my teeth when in traffic with the boom-boom-boom. It's the anti-women lyrics I can't stand. I just roll the window up & push the button to crank up Stravinsky a bit more. It solves the entire problem.

That dude from College Hill in the scarecrow costume & his whiney neighbors who agitated for this are going to get paid back handsomely by the guys with the $10,000 rims on the re-painted junkers with the breathing glass (from the bass boosters). You watch & see.

This ordinance is worthless. All the boom-boom dudes have to do is tell the Judge they don't have a dime to their names & they walk out the door. Judge signs the papers that they are indigent.

Is it really the noise or is it more about sanitizing the culture to make Leslie and her Hyde Park peeps more comfortable?

HOW DARE YOU?!

That "dude" from College Hill has more integrity in his little finger than you have in your entire body. That "dude" VOLUNTEERS tirelessly and continually for the betterment of his community and the entire city and county. That "dude" spends time walking the walk (as a Citizen on Patrol) and talking the talk (as a member of CPOP and Court Watch).
That "dude" has the ears of many councilmembers, county and state representatives, judges, lawyers, etc. They respect him for what he does and the opinions he has.

When you do 1/10th of the work that "dude" has done, then you can come back and criticize him.

Oh, and that "dude" lives in what he calls the "donut" - he's surrounded by the guys in the repainted junkers.

And I am proud to call him a friend.

HOW DARE YOU CRITICIZE HIM WHEN YOU DO NOTHING!

and if it were classical music or jazz being heard from 50 feet away?

Anybody but whiners that sit around on the computer with their head in the sand will see this "scarecrow" as a construction worker though he retired. FWIW, he and his wife have put five kids through college -- two with advanced degrees. Also FWIW, Ghiz lives in North Avondale but was attracted to College Hill. She is also a keeper.

The only thing I don't like about the ordinance proposal is that it is too lenient. The car and $4K wheels should be impounded on the 2nd offense. Many of those rides have guns in the trunk or back seat that also go Boom, Boom very loudly. If you want to play Bach, BeeGees, or Willie Cunningham loudly, the police will gladly impound your BMW, Monster Truck, or Prius. No problem and good riddance. I think the ordinance should also include "crotch rockets" that scream through my neighborhood at all hours.

Finally, let me add that College Hill Court Watch has bid adieu to several drivers of Chevy Caprices with bass boomers and the likes as they head of to prison for a number of months with no conjugal visits by the girlfriends (and I do mean that plurally).

It seems this scarecrow-construction worker doesn't have too many friends in the 'hood, although they claim to be friends.

The dude in the donut has been dumped on & outted.

Someone needs to tell him these are "friends" he can live without -bunch of betrayers. Maybe the Mayor will loan out Scotty on an as needed basis when the Boom-Boom boyz scoop the loop.

Anon 8:42 had it right. The boyz in the boutique street clothes will tell the Judge they're flat broke. The taxpayers will be on the hook again. Everyone, keep your windows up or turn the tunes off. Eventually, we won't be able to fart without getting a ticket & a date in court.

If people are going to be fined for playing their car radios too loud, Leslie Ghiz should be fined for running her mouth too long.

There is something seriously wrong with many many people in the Cincinnati area. To many useless laws, way to many haters. Seriously, you all sound like a bunch of bitter old hags that realy need to get a life. There are so many more important issues to discuss, but yet here we are talking about car sterios being to loud. It's laughable.

Ah - you did actually see the inteview, am I correct? If so, you'll notice that besides the voice over, at the bottom of the screen it listed the "scarecrow's" name and neighborhood.
But believe me, it didn't need to.

EVERYONE knows the "scarecrow's" name in this neighborhood. He doesn't hide behind anonimity as you are doing. He is out WITH the
badly painted 90 Caprices on a daily basis. Walk into any courtroom virtually any morning and you'll likely find him there.

You'll also likely find an "aging hippie" with a long pony tail also in that courtroom. That's my husband and the person that had the timestamp of 1:02pm above. I'm the person with the timestamp of 10:34 above.

The "scarecrow" doesn't own a computer, but we've printed off this posting string and given it to him. He thought it was a riot.

When this Ordinance passes, please send District 3 Police around the neighborhoods to have them enforce the loud stereo problem. Here are some streets ... Harrison Avenue, Werk Road, Boudinot Avenue, Hildreth, Glenmore Avenue, Hanna Avenue (especially going in and out of Mayridge Apartments), Pickbury, etc. So yes, there is a definite problem and THANK YOU, Council Member Leslie Ghiz for attempting to fix it. We will be supporting and voting for you!
