Fountain Square Candidates Meet and Greet

There seemed to be more candidates and media today at the Chamber's get-to-know-the-candidates event on Fountain Square than there were people actually wanting to get to know the candidates.

A few people asked about The Banks, Chris Monzel said. One man wanted to vote Joan Kaup for mayor.

Here are some more tidbits:

Kaup says to look for her CityBeat ad next week. It'll show two couples - one interracial, the other homosexual. People told her it would never fly in Cincinnati, but she said she went for it anyway because she believes in unity and diversity and wants to make sure her campaign stresses those ideals.

Sam Malone says he'll have a television ad soon that will appeal to women.

Monzel has an ad coming soon too, and Winburn said he'll have another one. He promised it'll be totally different than his first, which emphasized crime.

Justin Jeffre says the city's West Side soon will start seeing his signs and literature.

Winburn says he and Melanie Bates are campaigning together because they're trying to show that they can work together. He insists she's running seventh in polls right now - "she's going to win."

Little Jeffre did a great job. He did seem a little withdrawn. His friendship with the foot-tapping bold typist may be getting a bit too serious.

Winburn is simply wrong on his prediction. Watch for disgraced staffer Scott Gehring to drag the Bates campaign down to thirteenth or fourteenth place.

FakeCincyJeff - real funny. YOu are not fooling anyone. Gehring already knows you are trying to set up someone else with your phony attacks, and neither side is taking the bait. Grow up.

Some people actually care about any of this?!?

I chatted with Pavelish and his three volunteers and he makes more sense than most. The media doesn't cover him much. Looks like common sense is not important to The Enquirer.

We're already seeing Jeffre signs on the West Side: they're popping up all over the place in the public right of way. Nice that vacant parcels of land so support him.

Scott Gehring is a savvy political newcomer who is going to turn local politics on its head before you know it. He is admired by politicos in all three parties, and if the right-wing drunks in the Cow Chip Young Reactionaries can't see that, they will be left behind. This group hasn't done a thing in Cincinnati politics in 15 years. Scott tried to get them involved in actually making an effort to change things in Cincinnati, and they gave him the boot. They are too partisan for the good of Cincinnati.

Let's speculate on who would like to see CincyJeff and Scott Gehring go at it.

Gehring supports Issue 27; Cappel (CincyJeff) opposes it. All 3 political parties in this town support it; COAST and the NAACP do not.

Gehring is persona non grata in the GOP right now because of his defection to Bates and his horrendous tenure as Blue Chip Pres. He also could have gotten Ghiz in trouble for all of his campaigning for his state rep race that he did on city time when he worked in city hall.

Cappel is PNG in the GOP because he is, honestly, a hate-filled, nay-saying loser. He does nothing but complain and attack people, including those in "his" party, such as Jean Schmidt, Si Leis, and, previously, Pat DeWine. Tom Brinkman is the only person to escape the bilous hatred of one Jeff Cappel.

So, I guess it's the HCGOP trying to set this up, hating on Gehring for seeing the light and hating on Cappel because he hates them.

Nice work, Maggie and Jamie.

Nothing Sam Malone does could appeal to women.

Anon 8:08 AM -

Scott Gehring, is that you? Why do you keep referring to yourself in the third person? It's creepy!

LOL @ Anon 7:14! I've noticed the vacant parcels of land in Clifton seem to support Little Jeffre as well. Are you even permitted to place signs n the "public right of way"?
