House Republicans pick Mecklenborg

Ohio House Republicans announced their selection today of Bob Mecklenborg to fill the soon-to-be vacated seat held by state Rep. Bill Seitz, R-Green Township.

Earlier this month, Seitz was picked to fill the 8th District Senate seat held by Sen. Patricia Clancy, R-Colerain Township, starting Oct. 10.

Clancy is taking a job as assistant chief probation officer at Hamilton County Common Pleas Court.

House Speaker Jon Husted announced Mecklenborg’s selection to the 30th District seat, which includes about 110,000 people in Delhi, Harrison, Green and Miami townships. The job pays $58,933 annually.

Mecklenborg must run for re-election next year. Dick Hammersmith, a political consultant who was passed over for the appointment, has said he’ll challenge Mecklenborg in the March 4 primary election.

Mecklenborg, an attorney, is founding partner of Hyle & Mecklenborg and former law director for the city of Cheviot.

A screening committee comprised of members of the House Republican Caucus, and led by Husted, chose Mecklenborg after a recommendation from Hamilton County Republicans. Appointment to the seat is expected after Seitz’ resignation and the OK of the rest of the 53-member House GOP Caucus.

"Bob Mecklenborg’s vast legal experience and dedication to public service are tremendous," Husted said in a prepared statement. "I’m looking forward to having him on the team."

"I’m both honored and humbled," Mecklenborg said. "I am grateful to have been selected by the screening committee today..."

Mecklenborg and his wife, Jan, have been married for 25 years and have three children – Jill, Rob and Laura. They live in Green Township.

Just what we need, another lawyer instead of a real person. Good job Republicans, you never fail to disappoint. Maybe you guys can endorse another tax increase while you're at it?

The Borg supports the sales tax increase and The Hammer does not. Game. Set. Match. No wonder the Hamilton County RINO Preserve chose The Borg.

Real person? Hammersmith has never held a REAL JOB. What is a "political consultant"? Someone who sucks at the tete of government-through campaigns, lobbying, or government payroll. Surprisingly, these types can't find a job in the REAL WORLD (insert heavy sarcasm).

Neither person has made a public stance on the sales tax. Nice try.

Dick Hammersmith is a political hack, through and through.

Let "the Hammer" run in the GOP primary next year. He will lose, and lose resoundingly, because he holds no appeal for most voters. Then he can plot his next move in the weird, little paranoid world he lives in.

Will someone please clarify what a political consultant is?

a political consultant runs campaigns or advises politicians on strategy. sounds like "the hammer" got confused between running campaigns and being an actual qualified candidate.

political consultant

noun 1. a person who cannot find a job but offers "expert" advice; requires no skills or training; synonymous with political hack.

anon 11:00, as a member of the Republican Central committee, I've asked them both directly about the sales tax increase. Mecklenborg supports it. Hammersmith does not. Period. because I don't work for Hartmann, Deters, or a judge, and becuase I do not support the tax hike, they somehow forgot to invite me to the screening committee meeting. but, yes, prior to the party's convenient forgetting, I calld both of them directly and asked them yes or no.

Leave the reporting to reporters. Nothing you say can be legitimized.

He's right. That's like saying that Carmen Electra told me she wants to date me. Take my word for it.

The Hamilton County Republican Party is a wholly owned subsidiary of one John Pepper.

I have heard the screening committee was a standing committee, meaning the gop did not have time to fix the committee in one direction or another, especially with regard to the sales tax. Also, I am told that the committee was comprised of only 4 or 5 (of a 40+ person committee)courthouse employees, and that they were all party activists.

Anon. 11:46, since you so proudly proclaimed that you did some investigative reporting, I thought I would do some of my own. I called one of the candidates, and he said that he has never been contacted by anyone about the sales tax. It is lying people like you that give republicans a bad name and caused sensible people like me to leave the GOP.

Id just like to add some very acute insight: political consulting is a dismal field... imagine doing and saying anything at all (regardless of what you believe) just to make your candidate popular. Dismal.

Bob Bedinghaus supports Mecklenborg, therefore so do I.

Why do individuals who assinate someone's charachter without support of facts, always refuse to identify themselves by name?

The final count was 38 for Meckenborg and 2 for Hammersmith.

Hey everyone look at the bright side at least Clancy is out and you know Seitz will do more in her spot since she did nothing. Hammer or the Borg will get something done.

Actually, the final count was 27 to 2. I am strongly opposed to the jail tax because of the social programs attached. I supported the last effort because it was only for building the jail. I especially like the sales tax approach versus the property tax.

I support Bob Mecklenborg because he has many years of conservative party activism to prove his record. The other guy has no actual qualifications other than being a clone of that ultra-right wing, oppose any tax, Brinkman. Thank goodness he is term limited. Hammersmith is noted for raising funds for candidates and then taking a commission off the top. I wonder if he is taking a commission off the top of the funds he is raising for his campaign?

This is a no brainer:

Mecklenborg 78% of the primary vote. The other guy is toast.

1- Couldn't have said it better myself. The hammer is a neo-nazi hack.

2. Get some sleep!
