Chabot and Schmidt: High roller, cheap date

If you were Jean Schmidt, you might well think that, sometimes, life in politics is not fair.
Here's her 1st Congressional District colleague and fellow Republican, Steve Chabot, sitting on a campaign fund of $413,932, as of the June 30 FEC reports, and he's holding a fundraising breakfast at the Queen City Club next Monday where tickets go for $1,000 a pop.
$1,000 a pop; and the guy doesn't even have a GOP primary opponent. Schmidt, of course, does, in the form of Phil Heimlich; and, yet, as of June 30, the incumbent 2nd District congresswoman had only $85,169 in the bank, plus a $309,126 debt from the last time around because of the personal cash she lent her campaign.

So Schmidt, with her $85,169 in her pocket, is holding her own Queen City Club fundraising breakfast Friday morning. The ticket price for her fundraiser? The bargain-basement price of $250.

So, it costs four times as much to have scrambled eggs and a fruit cup with the congressman who already has about five times as much money in the bank already as his colleague, the congresswoman from the 2nd District, who not only has a Republican primary opponent but a couple of Democrats who want her job and are already raising a whole lot more money than she has.

Makes one wonder if the difference between the two GOP incumbents is that the 2nd District congresswoman couldn't draw a crowd at $1,000 per head.

Even if she offered an unlimited breakfast bar.

Clearly, Chabot needs a new car, and Mrs.Schmidt is too busy studying The Book Of Platitudes to worry about fundraising. Don't worry, when the time is right, she will have lined up enough support to form a conga line around a flagpole.

Certainly, the use-less idiot of the NAZI party (tnp) would 'blow' the rhetoric !

What was that last post?! Very convincing - hmm.
Heimlich might be the only person in Cincinnati that couldn't beat Sweet Jean. It's sad to think that my former party has sunk to these depths!

anon 3:22 - you should add tom brinkman to that list.

Keep your day job, Howard. As a quip-artist you leave a lot to be desired. Congresswoman Jean Schmidt has plenty of time to raise the necessary money. Heimlich is wasting his time...and the money he has raised, too.

tom brinkman can barely win his state house seat, let alone a congressional seat. The far-right wing of the repugnican party is on the outs!

and the news is what?

i was really hoping chabot would stop being an embarassement to the first district and just stay home and mow his grass and wash his car.

after the locals neocons are done eating themselves, the national party will step in with the money that they need to properly steal the election again.

had enough?

then next time vote.

Jim Parker, Former Democratic Candidate for US Congress in the Ohio 2nd District has sent out invitations to every candidate who is running for Congress against Jean Schmidt. Following are the responses received to date:

Steve Black - Democrat- YES
Tom Brinkman - YES
Randy Longbottom - Indpndnt - YES
Jeff Sinnard - Democrat - YES
Vic Wulsin - YES

Jean Schmidt - No Response
Phil Heimlich - No Response

Each of these responses has been confirmed in writing and forwarded to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Rumor has it Jim Parker is thinking about holding the event in Clermont County.

Here's his website:

Rumor also has it that he's running for Congress if a Democrat doesn't win this time... Interesting... Jim Parker has knocked on thousands of families' doors all throughout the district.

My name is Jim Parker and I beleive that every candidate who is running for elective office should have the opportunity to attend a public forum and answer questions about their plans for healthcare, the economy and the war in Iraq.

I believe that Democrats, Independents and Republicans should have the same opportunity at the same time in the same public setting.

And I believe that the people who think they will win an election to the US House of Representatives without discussing their ideas in front off the people they will be representing is a symptom of everything that is wrong with our government right now.

Some people think this is all about money. I think this is all about you.

I hope that every candidate will accept my invitation to speak about their plans for healthcare, the economy and the war in Iraq. Someday, I will again, speak about those same ideas. I only hope that it's not too late when that day arrives.

Please encourage all candidates to accept, or at least respond, to this offer. Thank you.

Brinkman, indeed. The man who just accepted an award from "Family First PAC" and not-so-eloquently spoke out about rebuking Republicans who do the wrong thing...

Interesting seeing as the very organization he founded & chairs teamed up with a pro-abortion, pro-tax PAC out of Oregon and he sat deliberately silent (which means he condoned their action). That blew "Family First's" credibility all to hell. They & Brinkman are "feel good" hacks who have selective outrage, memory and endorsement policies. That makes them just as poisonous and corrupt to this country as HRC.

Their hypocrisy, inconsistency and "ends justifies the means" mentality has truly ruined the definition of conservatism.

Have you forgotten that our congresswoman was elected by a very slim margin in the 06 election? If I remember correctly, you predicted that Jean was going to win by at least 20 percent. It is true that Jean has been elected to Congress twice; however, you must admit that she loses more and more support during each election. If Jean does survive the March election; it is going to be very difficult for her to win in November. Looking at the data from the past two elections, she stands a good chance of being defeated. I do admire you for the loyal support that you provide to Jean; however, you need to be realistic.

I heard that Jim Parker is running in 2008.

With all the doors he has knocked on in the past 2 years, he just might win.

If nothing else, he would split the ticket.

Democrats like him. Republicnas do too. And Independents think he is the answer to their prayers. I heard that he is going to the Hamilton County Board of Elections to purchase a list of registered voters and plans to start knocking on doors in Indian Hill.

Interesting...

CQ Politics has put both Schmidt's and Chabot's campaigns in the highly competitive Leans Republican category. With any luck, we'll get rid of one (or maybe both!) of them.

"Mean" Jean Schmidt has earned her nickname again. On Tuesday, Schmidt voted against the bi-partisan SCHIP reauthorization bill - turning her back on over 218,000 kids in Ohio and 7 million across the country. SCHIP - the State Children's Health Insurance Program - provides access to healthcare for millions of families who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but still can't afford to buy private insurance.

HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2008 !

Anonymous at 5:52 pm, 9/26/07, I am being realistic to expect the good Congresswoman to win the primary and general next year. Against some daunting odds, some appallingly vicious attacks (by Dems and by the COAST gang) and some difficult GOP-unfriendly circumstances, she won four elections in a 17-month period in 2005-06. She's a fighter, and I will help her fight her way to the top once again next year. Nothing unrealistic about it. And thanks for your kind words about my loyalty to her. She's earned it.

Jim Parker believes in expanding healthcare coverage to the millionsd of American children who do not have it now. It is not a child's fault if they are born poor.

Jim Parker should run for Congress again. We like him.

We heard that he will be in Clermont County again this weekend...

I think I'll send a message to Congress and vote Independent. I'm tired of of the red and blue politics and the fighting between the parties. It wastes a lot of time and money. Plus the Republicans want to send all our jobs to China, and the Democrats want to give all our jobs to the Mexicans. Who is for the Middle Class?

at 6:57 PM, September 29, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anonymous at 5:29 pm, 9/29/07, do you write, call or email your senators and representative on a regular basis to let them know what you think? Do you contribute money and time to get the candidate who best agrees with your thinking elected? The so-called "independent vote" gave us two terms of Clintstone in the White House. We have a two-party political system in this country. Use it to your advantage. Belly-aching accomplishes nothing--unless you effectively communicate your discontent and dissatisfaction to your congress people.

Anonymous at 5:52 pm, 9/26/07, BTW, I have never predicted a victory margin of 20% for anyone including Congresswoman Jean Schmidt. In the general last year I expected her to beat Wulsin by 5-6% until the needless brouhaha erupted about the Piketon plant. My expectation at that point dropped to 2-3%, which turned out to be fairly accurate.

Jim Parker, Future Democratic Candidate for US Congress, is a Healthcare Candidate for the Middle Class and the Baby Boom Generation. He is passing out literature that says THANK YOU to thousands of people throughout Southern Ohio. I heard that he is going to Clermont County tomorrow...

Here is his website:

www.JimPARKER4ad.blogspot.com

Not only does he believe in the people who call themselves the middle class, he and his family are the middle class... The guy doesn't seem to have much tolerance for millionaires, politicians or lawyers...

Dear TNP

Thanks for the lecture, but I can assure you that I'm quite involved in politics. When you have the American people saying no to amnesty for illegal immagrants, and Congress trying to shortcut and ram it down our throats. Well, we have had Tea Parties for less. Same goes for the President trying to push his policy even though the people have spoken. The government is of the people. It's time they represent the people. I have checked out the Independent candidate in my area, and if he gets his name on the ballot he's got my vote! A middle class working man that doesn't have to answer to a party. The 2 party system is nothing but a waste of time and money, and it's gotten away from what government was meant to be.

at 12:32 PM, October 02, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anonymous at 8:28 pm, 10/1/07, you're welcome. You have every right to waste your vote on a third party or independent candidate. It's a free country. And I share your frustration with government in general and the two parties in particular. Mark Twain wrote that in the US there's only one truly criminal class of citizens--Congressmen. That's a bit extreme, but I think he must have been as angry as you are and as I am much of the time when we send people to Washington and to Columbus and Frankfort and to Indianapolis to do the right things and they don't. But I don't want to see our political system degenerate to the multi-party Italian or Israeli model. As disappointing as our two-party system often is, it's not nearly as chaotic as a multi-party arrangement would invariably be.

There are 2 things in this country that will end up creating the chaos you speak of; Complacency and Political Correctness.

If you are as upset as I, why continue backing the same parties time after time. It’s un-patriotic. The American way is to push to do the right thing, even if it may not be the most popular thing to do. While our forefathers sat in a room discussing whether or not to declare independence from England, I’m sure there were people present that were against the idea, because they were afraid of what consequences there might be, and the chaos that would surely follow.

When JFK said, “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” I believe he was saying, get involved, be a voice, and do not become complacent.

Lastly, the only wasted vote, is the vote not cast.

I choose to act.

Anonymous at 1:48 am, 10/4/07, I am involved, all the way up to my eyeballs, in the political process. And the two chaos creators you site have nothing to do with me. I'm a card-carrying member of the "Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy," Christian Branch. You may be also or maybe not. But, it sounds like we're both acting on our convictions and choosing to do it in two different ways. So be it, and all the best to you.

Thanks again!
