Boehner responds to ads

The Democrat-leaning, anti-war group Americans United for Change launched a new ad today that will run in the Cincinnati area TV markets attacking Rep. Jean Schmidt of Miami Township for something Rep. John Boehner of West Chester said.

Say WHAT?!

Tiz true, the group says Schmidt should be held accountable for continuing to support "the president’s costly, irresponsible and failed policy of endless war in Iraq." So they are attacking her for comments Republican Leader Boehner made to Wolf Blitzer on CNN's Situation Room on Sept. 12.

Here is the full text of what Blitzer asked and how Boehner responded:

BLITZER: Mr. Leader, here's the question. How much longer will U.S. taxpayers have to shell out $2 billion a week or $3 billion a week as some now are suggesting the cost is going to endure? The loss in blood, the Americans who are killed every month, how much longer do you think this commitment, this military commitment is going to require?

BOEHNER: I think General Petraeus outlined it pretty clearly. We're making success. We need to firm up those successes. We need to continue our effort here because, Wolf, long term, the investment that we're making today will be a small price if we're able to stop al Qaeda here, if we're able to stabilize the Middle East, it's not only going to be a small price for the near future, but think about the future for our kids and their kids.

This is a very important effort on the part of the United States to secure our national interests and to secure our security interests, especially when it comes to al Qaeda, who has been our number one enemy here in Iraq.
Read the whole transcript of the show HERE.

According to Americans United for Change, the families of the over 3,780 U.S. soldiers that have been killed in Iraq and the tens of thousands of soldiers that have suffered severely debilitating injuries might disagree with Boehner that “a small price” has been paid. The group says that Boehner’s remarks are "emblematic of just how out of touch Republicans are with the real costs of this war."

Schmidt's office declined to comment on the ad.

Boehner's press secretary, Jessica Towhey, had this to say:

“Congressman Boehner’s remark referred to the monetary investment we've made to ensure our security and bring stability to a troubled region. Congressman Boehner deeply appreciates the sacrifices made by our troops and their families. Last week while in Iraq, he met with Ohio soldiers to thanks them for their service.

“On Tuesday Boehner met with five Ohio families whose sons had died in Iraq. These families came to thank Mr. Boehner for his commitment to supporting the effort in Iraq because these families are committed to winning and they want to know that the sacrifice their sons made in Iraq was worth something.”

When Democrats are being attacked for something an organization said in an ad, why, Malia, do you find it unfair for an Ohio Congresswoman to be attacked for something said by a Congressman from a neighboring district?

Malia, you are proving to be just another right-wing hack who regurgitates Republican talking points. Here's the ad. Watch it. See what it says. And then show me where it "attacks" Jean Schmidt, or says she "should be held accountable."

The only thing the ad says regarding Jean Schmidt is, "Tell Representative Jean Schmidt to condemn John Boehner's remarks and vote to end the war."

If you're going to criticize the ad, at least have the decency to be honest about its content.

"...these families are committed to winning and they want to know that the sacrifice their sons made in Iraq was worth something.”..."

Whenever any country has to take a life or sacrifice a life there are NO winners, EVER !

It is easy to force your will on anyone i.e., Roman Empire, Nazi Germany, U.S.S.R. but, it is always temporary !

What do we tell the 50,000 Americans whom lost their life, in one day, fighting for civil rights in our own civil war ?

Yet, 3,500 lives were lost in a New York building that housed the C.I.A on 9/11 (legitimate military target) and our total value system has been destroyed !

We have lost civil liberties and we now argue how much torture is torture, etc.

So, those civil war sacrifices were for naught ?

During our own civil war: Could any foreign country occupy our soil and liberate us while exploiting our natural resources ?

Hell, frick'n NO !

So, why are we arrogant enough to think we can encroach any country ?

That is just wRong wingnut whacko !

In the scheme of life, we Americans are as doomed as the Native Indians !

And no one will care !

Retribution !

Thou shalt not kill !

Perhaps, it has come a time to 'turn the other cheek' ?

We say: why do the communist now finance 25% of our debt ?

Have we bought the rope ?

We have climbed into bed with terrorist !

PATHETIC HypocRites !

HAD ENOUGH, VOTE DEMOCRAT 2007 !

SorRy (w), I'm the DECIDER !

footnote: The definition of a legitimate target is central to the laws of armed conflict. Additional Protocol I, Article 52, defines a legitimate military target as one “which by [its] nature, location, purpose, or use makes an effective contribution to military action and whose total or partial destruction, capture or neutralization, in the circumstances ruling at the time, offers a definite military advantage.”

Please don't attack Malia Rulon. Personally, I appreciate that she took the time to write this article...

As for Jean Schmidt...

If you rubber stamp the American Dream for millions of people, sometimes, when you neighbor shows their true colors... you get to share in the pain.

The price that Congresswoman Schmidt will pay when they run this ad is literally nothing in comparison to the thousands of American families who now have daughters without fathers and Moms without Dads...

Please end this war.

It is so tragic when the families of our fallen soldiers prefer to believe the propaganda of the GOP war machine over the reality that this Iraq War is about control of mid-east oil supplies/pricing structures, oil profit sharing agreements, the 'shock and awe doctrine", American hegemony and the pursuit of global corporate interests rather than some 'noble cause' as Cindy Sheehan asked. That "they want to know that the sacrifice their sons made in Iraq was worth something” is heartbreaking.

I truly hope that someday the criminal Bush administration and our greedy and criminally complicit manistream media will be held accountable for this 'war of lies' that they have perpretrated on many of the trusting American public.

Just keep this quote in mind when listening to George W. Bush because this is a quote directly from the mouth of George W. Bush: "You can fool some of the people all of the time and those are the ones we want to concentrate one".

Wake up and smell the fascism people before it's too late!

Cincy 911 truth,

I can respect contrary arguments to my beliefs until Cindy Sheehan is invoked. I don’t need to remind you of the company she cavorts with, but I will. Hugo Chavez, a fascist, has had Cindy as his special guest for photo ops. Another one of her friends is Malik Rahim. Who is Cindy's "new friend" Malik Rahim? He is conventionally described as a "veteran of the Black Panther Party in New Orleans," and was recently a Green Party candidate for local office there. But the truth is somewhat worse. Rahim is a Communist. Here is a speech he gave to the Communist Manifesto conference in December 1998; it begins:
I'm here on behalf of two revolutionary freedom fighters that have spent the last 26 years in solitary confinement in Angola, a state prison in Louisiana. I met these freedom fighters as a political prisoner in 1970. I was in a shoot-out with the police in New Orleans as a member of the Black Panther Party.
These are just a few for you to chew on.

Your statement of the administrations mid-east intent is for only oil, is as outlandish as the contention that Roosevelt’s reason in going to Europe was to fix the dismal 20% + US un-employment rate.

You are correct with the statement of “our greedy and criminally complicit mainstream media will be held accountable for this 'war of lies' that they have perpetrated on many of the trusting American public.” Dan Rather certainly has found out.

Usefullidiot,

Your delusional thinking baffles me. I cited a two word phrase from Cindy Sheehan which was based on a question that she wanted to ask W. Bush about the death of her son Casey. Her question? For what 'noble cause' did my son die? How you transferred my words to invoke Hugo Chavez and Malik Rahim are beyond me???

As for this Iraq War being a war for oil? Try looking at the 6-7 pages that were released from Dick Cheney's early 2001 "Energy Task Force". (Pre-9/11 let me remind you.) In those released pages you will see drawings of the Iraqi oil regions divided up with suggested American/British oil companies names there who could gain access to the oil. As for pre-planning of this war... just google "Downing Street Memo" or Project For A New American Century's paper entitled "Rebuilding America's Defenses".

As for Dan Rather? Let's see where his $70 million lawsuit against CBS goes.

As for criminally complicit news media let me point just one example out to you which 'just might" involve a slight conflict of interest between corporate ownership and 'actual/truthful news reporting'. GE (General Electric) owns NBC, MSNBC, CNBC and other news oulets. But GE sells millions upon millions of dollars of electronics, aircraft engines, weapons systems and so on to the U.S. Government. Now here's a tough question for you... when it comes to GE's financial bottomline which division is going to get the top priority? The millions sold annually to the U.S. Government or their news oulets?

I'm open to discussing this. So let's hear your side.

Typical wRong wingnut whacko spewing the elephant dung propaganda !

We were orphaned at 1yr. old due to a train-auto accident !

The railroad had parked abandoned rail cars next to a crossing !

There were no flashing lights, no gates at that time in history !

Just X-bars !

Our mother working alone that night at a local grocer, could not get the door locked !

Our father came home from working a second shift at Autolite !

They left together to lock the door at the grocer !

Returning from their duty they approached a rail crossing pitch darkened !

There was a train traveling, hidden by the parked rail cars !

One block from our home !

Our government at work:

The wRong wingnut whacko legislature had enacted tort restrictions (a.k.a reform) regarding rail accidents !

The most anyone could recover was $30,000 !

There were five children left without parents that night !

Guess what ?

If that accident were to happen today, the settlement amount would still be limited to a total of $30,000 !

That aside:

Does hampster = hamster ?

We can only assume this is some practice of the wRong wingnut whackos !

We are clueless, but, it doesn't surprise us that you're an expert in that area !

use-less idiot: Need we say more !

Sorry for your luck! Maybe if John Edwards could have gotten 100 victims together and filed a class-action suit for let say 90m,
And got it all, less 40%, less expenses (travel, meals, depositions, jury consultants, paralegal travel, court reporters) of 36m, that would have left you with 10K!

Cincy truth,

There is one reason, in my opinion, of why we should be in Iraq; and that is Lt. Cmdr Scott Spicher, the first casualty and MIA of the first gulf war.

If you were to make a pilgrimage to the gates of the Military hospital in Bethesda Maryland on any Friday night and experience the pain and sorrow that Cindy Sheehan and her code pink followers wrack on the Gold Star family’s that hold virgule across Wisconsin Ave., you might understand.

I have no doubt that profiteering from this conflict is going on, just as the boot makers and harness makers of 1863. I have yet to see this so called Republican controlled media run a story about the disgraced Senator Finstein (D Ca) who was stripped of her chair of the Senate appropriations committee under allegations that she was steering contracts to HER HUSBAND, whom happens to be the second largest, behind Halliburton, American contractor in the Mid-East. When is the Democratic controlled Senate ethics (I know. oxymoron) going to investigate her corrupt ass?

I agree with your statement of US Gov media outlets, and we can thank Bill Clinton and the Telecommunications act of 1996 for that. It’s just that you have the issue of control skewed a little bit.

Let’s get together with three fixes that will have kinetic affect beyond our wildest dreams,

Fair Tax, Closed Boarders, Term Limits.

at 5:42 PM, September 22, 2007 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Usefullidiot,

This may shock you but I agree with you about the damage down by Clinton's passage of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, Feinstein's involvement in throwing contracts her husbands way, closed borders, a fair tax (but not a flat tax) and term limits.

It appears that many of our elected political leaders (R & D) prefer to follow a corporatist agenda set forth by corporate lobbyists. How do the American people fight against the strength of a money/greed driven political system?

Everyone needs to ask themselves a simple question. If the government is concerned with protecting the American people and maintaining national security... then why are our borders WIDE OPEN?

With the massive growth of H-1B visas and no border security it can only point to corporate influence for lower wages. The welfare of the American worker/family be damned!

If I could stress anything to everyone concerned with the above problems (including the Iraq War) I'd have to say "start thinking about what is best for this country and forget about trying to blindly support one political party whether it is Democratic or Republican". That is a false choice used to divert attention fron the overall agenda and is used to divide people. Right v. Left. Liberal v. Conservative etc.

What about what is best for the American people instead?

Considering his misspelling habits we think maybe a third grade education, at best !

Not our luck, nor our lost !

Society is the loser !

Thus; the importance we place on money, that man made illusion of value, results in human life devaluation !

Therefore, the wRong wingnut whackos seek to win that terrorist war on those whom value human life more than oil, drug companies, lead manufactures, quack doctors, etc. !

Statutory mandated maximum recovery !

a.k.a. wRong wingnut whacko maximum recovery tort reform !

We have much in common....the key is for the public to wake up and realize that corruption is rampant on both sides of the isle, and the difference between the R&D power bases is thin.

I still relate to Republican core Issues more than the Democrat.
