AFL-CIO Endorsements

The Cincinnati AFL-CIO Labor Council today released its list of endorsements:

Incumbent City Council members Jeff Berding, Laketa Cole, John Cranley, David Crowley and Cecil Thomas; former Vice Mayor Minette Cooper and former councilman Christopher Smitherman; and challengers Brian Garry and Greg Harris.

All are Democrats except Smitherman, a former Charterite who's running as a member of the Green Party.

Also endorsed: Hamilton County elderly services and mental health levies; Springboro Mayor John Agenbroad; South Lebanon Mayor James D. Smith.

Doug Sizemore, executive secretary-treasurer, said in a statement: "We are confident that the 2007 election will be a victory for working families."

Right now, I am not voting for a single incumbent or former member of any party for Council.

Harris is definitely getting my vote. I am keeping an open mind on Bates, Eby, and Harper. Probably a few others.

Harris is a good guy. I've seen him out and about more than any other candidate. Seems to have a good organization. Policy-wise he's more qualified than any other candidate.

Eby's a good guy. I'd like to see him on council. He should have gotten the AFL-CIO endorsement.

Boo Cooper!

I can't believe they endorsed Garry--a pro-boycott radical with few professional or personal accomplishments. They repeated the same mistake as the Democrats. And Cooper is barely running a campaign and too ill to serve.

It's a shame they couldn't back moderate Republicans like Eby and Bortz.

I think 7 of the 9 candidates they endorsed are likely winners, but if they had endorsed Bortz and Eby, they would've had 9 winners.

I also like Harris.

Right now I'm thinking Harris, Eby, Bates, Harper, Ghiz, and Harris.

Berding is a sellout. How can they endorse him? He stands for big money, not working families.

Eby should have most defiantly got the AFL-CIO endorsement, along with Bortz.

It's a damn shame they endorsed Garry and Cooper. Just a shame.

I'm just floored that the AFL-CIO endorse Brian Crum Garry & Chris Smitherman. What is wrong with this endorsement committee??

The other ones they've bowed to aren't much better. Good grief, what a mess!

Speaking of sell-outs... they were smart not to endorse Bortz, who will soon sell-out Charterites when be buys himself a Republican nomination because his secretary thinks it is a good strategy to run for Mayor. His secretary hates Mallory and somehow he gives her almost ruling authority over him.

This "endorsement" is a good list of who I WON'T vote for. Thanks for the help. "A victory for working families" = another 2 years of all talk no action?

Crowley & Cranley are good folks. Harris, I don't know about that dude...can he EVEN win? I would not doubt the other candidates. There is a lot a good folks this year~

Berding will LOSE!!! I got a call yesterday from Charlie Winburn & he left a voice message encouraging my family to call Berding at city hall because Berding tried to close pulic pools. Berding has a LOT of enemies, I think more than he even realizes...I don't care how much $$ he gets or what unions endorse him, Berding clearly has pissed off many, many people on both sides of the asile.

Yeah, anonymous 2:55, that's the right approach. Because we know all these yayhoos who have been on council haven't done anything like revitalize downtown and help decrease violent crime by adding cops to the streets.

Do you mean 'yahoos' on council? Whatever dude...get your facts straight....Crowely, Cranley & Cole continue to get relected because they do stuff for the communities! Berding stinks, Monzel is okay, & the others....they need to leave asap.

Harris...yawn! Garry....okay; Ghiz....complainer; Cole....bi-polar; Monzel....decent; Berding...dumb; Bortz....confused;
Crowley....sincere; Cranley....different; Winburn....unique; Thomas...intelligent; Smitherman...weird; Eby....untrue; Fischer....okay; Did I miss anyone?

Jeff Berding is for working families? LOL! Only if by working families, we mean Mike Brown and Bob Castellini.

What's going on with the AFL-CIO? Did they not read his questionaire...it's perfect for working people all around. As a member of the local 392 I'm disappointed that we did not endorse Eby. I'm still going to vote for him even though he's not endorsed.

The general disgust with city council, and the jail tax (which will drive up black turnout) will result in Berding, Monzel, Ghiz and possibly Bortz not getting re-elected.

BTW, two internal polls say this. This is why Monzel is suddenly best friends with Cranley, Windburn is smelling blood and going after Berding, and Bortz thinks he needs the GOP dual-endorsement.

If the election were held today, 3 of the top 6 finishers would be challengers (Harris, Winburn & Bates). Cranley, Cole and Crowley round out the six, and the battle is for the bottom three.

Stop the presses! Breaking News!
The Union endorsed Democrats!

Come on people, like this is really a surprise?

The REAL news would have been if they did endorse a Republican.-- but then we would have to wonder what kind of RINO they were.
