Saving the Pools
Some council members felt a little stung by Mayor Mark Mallory's comments in The Enquirer on Sunday, the ones about how Cincinnati can't keep relying on Stan Chesley to chip in and keep city pools open longer. They remember the budget negotiations a little differently than he did, saying they tried to keep some of the pools open until Labor Day.
So after council members voted unanimously Wednesday to accept the $80,000 Chesley gave to keep some of the pools open more days, Jeff Berding seemed to be trying to defend some of his colleagues. "We all recognize," he said, that providing recreation for kids is critical.
"None of us wants to be in this position again...I know if we put ourselves to it, we can get this done next year."

It cost $850,000 to fully run the pools for one summer.
Jeff Berding gave away $800,000 to The Slave Center and wanted to give them $1 million. The money is there for the pools. The problem is we have Councilmen like Berding, Bortz, and Ghiz who waste our money on giveaways to their rich campaign donors.
Berding must be losing his touch, gee only 13000 given to him by various Lindners so far vs the 17 grand he got from them in 05. He'll be taking a long walk off a short pier come November.
This is said every year and every year the city goes begging to someone to fund their pools. Heaven forbid they think ahead during their budget hearings. I only recall arguments about what arts and museum groups would get money. Guess that's always more important than the kids!!!!!!!!
Mallory is the MAYOR! He can find $75K anytime he wants to (he did for his own staff, bodyguard, etc.). Don't beg for CHesley money. Solve the problem (what's the point of being Mayor if all you do, when you need $75K and you have a $1B budget, is beg private citizens for a public service).
The Buck stops at the top.
Does this mean he gets another shot at suing another corporation for the city? They say, one good deed will come back and reward you tenfold. Kudos to you Mr. Chesley, I think you have won another contract.
