Do hot dogs come with that jail?

Hamilton County commissioners Todd Portune and David Pepper made the rounds to the city's safety committee Tuesday to present their comprehensive public safety plan. When it was time for questions, councilman Jim Tarbell asked "Does this come with a lifetime supply of hot dogs?

"This is the Kahn's site," he reasoned.

"Only if you cook them," quipped Portune.

The safety plan calls for a sales tax increase to fund a new $198 million, 1,800-bed jail on the site of the old Kahn's plant in Camp Washington, and a host of rehabilitation and public safety programs. It was met with interest and support from most safety committee members, though no vote was taken.

Here's some of what some of them said:

Cecil Thomas: "For a long time the philosophy in Hamilton County was to lock them up. The most important hing in your whole plan is the re-entry(rehabilitation program.) You walk in that door knowing you'll do your time serve your time, but that your time will also serve you."

Jeff Berding: "Public safety is the issue we all need to address if we want this community to be a long term success. This plan is bold. It's new. It squarely tackles this No. 1 issue and tackles the status quo that hasn't served us well in the past."

Leslie Ghiz: "This plan has my full support."

Other than the hot-dog issue, Tarbell seemed to like it too.

I bet chrissy monzel is real proud to have sided with Tarbell now. Wonder how much he is paying Bradford to sink his ship.

The first anonymous poster must be posting in the wrong blog entry. This topic has nothing to do with the 8 big spenders on Council wasting our money on the freedom center. This is about the Jail Tax that The White Democrats want to force on us even though we the voters have already said no.

Not surprisingly, Leslie Ghiz wasted no time carrying water for David Pepper's plan. She is owned by John Pepper, and as a Jean Schmidt supporter it must surprise nobody to see her endorse higher taxes.

The only ships that are being sunk are the Barbary Coast fleet of the light cruiser Berding, the tanker Ghiz and the garbage scowl Bortz. Anchors away mates!

1800 beds this gets rid of 2 jails fix the Justice center, and adds to the Juv 20/20. I read the plan on one of the county web sites. Here is my question. Why are we only building a jail to fix the immediate problem? Why not build one where we can do as Butler County is doing and take inmates from other counties. I just did a little math in my head. There are 800 plus inmates at the "Queensgate"jail. 200 at the "Reading Road" jail, 300 plus at Butler Co. Plus the release females everyday down there so let’s just say 50 female prisoners a night. So out of the new jail we are only getting 450 new beds. Why not build it bigger charge other counties to house their inmates and use some of that to pay of the expenses for the new jail? Why when anyone in charge of Hamilton Co takes on a large project they don't look bigger. When they opened the Justice Center didn't they have to start turning people away to do their time at a later date because there was not enough room? I think I will vote no again but it will pass.
