Chabot says '93 Buick helped

Cliff Radel reporting:

"They kept saying I've changed," Steve Chabot said in his victory speech. "But as I drove around the district today people said, 'hey that's a '93 Buick. You really drive that thing.' Now I can never sell that thing."

In the crowd chanting "Chabot, Chabot, Chabot" and pumping his fist was Colerain Township Trustee Jeff Ritter. He said, "Steve Chabot embodies the West Side with his values and morals.

Also in his victory speech Chabot thanked his opponent John Cranley for "making this a spirited battle."

When asked what turned around the election for him Chabot jokingly said "when the Enquirer chose not to endorse me. I saw my numbers shoot straight up."

Yesterday I received a robo-call from the Chabot campaign - not a supporting organization. The call focused on Cranley's 'support' for Section 8 housing and then linked that with unsafe neighborhoods. While Chabot may not be a "93 Buick" racist, he apparently has no problem appealing to the fears people have regarding Section 8 and African-American renters.

And then there's the political insert Chabot had for the African-American community that was slipped into his standard 'west side' literature. The west-side literature was squeaky white, while the other featured an array of black kids and elders. It even had a photo of Chabot from 1976 when he was a liberal Democrat. Guess this wouldn't go over so well in Cheviot or Harrison.

Chabot is just another cynical politician who will do just about anything to hold on to power. His reelection is not good for Cincinnati or the surrounding area. The upset in the House will mean Chabot will be even less influential than he has been in the past, and this guy has been one of the dimmer Republican bulbs. No more House authority for Chabot as he fades further in the coming years.

Chabot knows how to cook up the pork, but, he doesn't know how to bring home the bacon !

second note:

cranley should take note and humble himself.

Hey John, the next time you receive "SEVERAL" calls to walk your precinct with democratic candidates - you should, at the least, return the calls ! You are a precinct executive you know !

It is not all about you !

Your arrogance and self-centeredness created "BAD" karma !

There is no "I" in "TEAM".

Time to adjust your priorities !

I guess someone pulled the plug on the wireless router !

I know, for certain, it cost you "given" DEMOCRATIC votes !

PATHETIC !

"Your video presentations, your website... everything is first rate.
It just shows how difficult it is to unseat an entrenched incumbent."

Haha...you idiot bloggers still think a campaign can be won with youtube videos and a website..hahahaha

concerning the 11:23 am or so post...

well, to put into football terms, the "air war" was great....maybe the blogger you were refering to wasn't in a position to make any calls regarding the "ground game"

You can't deny that Cranley has a great speaking voice. Remember when the city council races were going on?

Most of the council had little "audio clips" to listen to. John had (and has) a great speaking voice....just compare it with Pepper's.

The City Council races/Mayors race was a lot of fun too...all references to "Pepper Mallory" made it sound like we were discussing someone's "stripper name."

Then it turned out Pepper and Mallory were actually opponents.....then Pepper lost and went out and got himself another elective race.

So I'm happy he won. But if you listen to his audio presentation...and nothing else.......well, frankly he sounds like some kind of panty-waist.

Nice background,though...Cincinnati Country Day School...the stint with Zbigniew Brezinski etc, Johns-Hopkins and SAIS.

However, he seems to be as much of silk stocking type as, say, Rob Portman. Nice touch, that Pepper's dad was CEO of Procter and Gamble, his grandpa a distinguished doctor, his great grandpa a famous architect...whatever.

Who is out there than can articulate the concerns of the middle class wage earner?

Manufacturing in the Midwest is going to hell in a handbasket. Doesn't anyone care about that?

Hypocrisy Revealed: What Car Will Chabot Drive Next?

Countering the claim that “Washington Changed Steve Chabot,” Chabot argues that he “has been driving the same car” since elected to Congress: a 1993 Buick.

In an October 30, 2000 Cincinnati Post article about Chabot’s reelection campaign it says:

“Rep. Steve Chabot is behind the wheel of his ramshackle 1990 Pontiac, rounding a corner onto Harrison Avenue in Cincinnati.”

Driving a 1990 Pontiac during your 2000 campaign sure doesn’t sound like you are driving the same old Buick!
