I've read the transcript, and I've made my decision: I am never voting again.
Kidding. That was hilarious. Why did Chabot's people not have the sense to at least leave "Chabot" out of their screen names if they want to appear unaffiliated, though? What a trainwreck.
Wow. One need only mention the word "Iraq" and Chabot starts spitting out a string of answers like a defective Magic 8 Ball - and before the guy even asked a question! You have to admire his awesome psychic abilities. Sorry I missed the chat. I would have just kept typing " Iraq" until I got him to say: " Ask again later" over, and over.
That was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. Chabot barely answered any of the questions, except the softballs, and he made up questions to answer so he could get in his talking points:
- Steve Chabot (12:40:25 PM) "Gerry, you had asked what can be done about criminals coming into our neighborhoods..."
No one named 'Gerry' posted a question, no one asked about criminals in the neighborhoods.
- Steve Chabot (12:11:37 PM) "Someone had asked a question about illegal immigrants...."
No, Steve, no one had asked about illegal immigrants at that point. You made that up to get in a dig at Cranley.
- Steve Chabot (12:26:25 PM) "Someone had asked about Section 8 housing..."
Nope - no one asked about it. You made it up.
I guess one good thing did come out of this otherwise worthless chat. It exposed Steve Chabot as another career politician who will say anything to get elected, then do nothing once he gets in office. I don't live in the first district - I live in the second so we've got Jean Schmidt to deal with - but hopefully those that do see through this tripe that Chabot and his staff posted. Please, vote for Cranley.
I have a question for Mr Chabot: at sometime, either this election year or in the future, you will return to the private sector. What kind of occupation will you pursue?
Your blogger Johnson (of 12:03:26) repeated earlier blog assertions that Cranley has "never held any job outside of elective politics," but that Chabot had.
Mr. Chabot responded that his prior real world experience included jobs such as a school teacher, a janitor, a bus driver, and that he had also practiced law as a private attorney.
I wonder why did he didn't mention his other "jobs" such as that of husband and father....certainly those "jobs" must have given him more insight into the so-called "real world" problems that a US Representative faced than those of bus driver, janitor, teacher or attorney.
To Mr/Ms Johnson 12:03:26...I would imagine that you are a young person, and one who might be interested someday in seeking elective office yourself. Your remarks from Oct 29th and 30th express the fear that people only run for office out of selfish, egotistical desires. I think you are wrong about that, and that you are looking for somekind of reassurance that it really isn't that way at all.
Well, here are some real world facts: in the future, people will judge you almost solely by the "last job" you held.
And John Cranley's "last job" has been that of a Cincinnati City Councilman...and also an attorney......and Steve Chabot's "last job" has been as a US Congressman representing southwest Ohio.
I have no idea if John Cranley can or cannot claim some other kind of real world experience...maybe he mowed lawns at one point, or delivered newspapers, or worked down at Mr Morgan's drugstore.
He is now the person who is best able to articulate the issues that matter to the majority of Cincinnati's westside residents.
Chabot has had twelve years to use his office of US Representative for either good or ill. I just wonder, in looking back now, what would he have done differently?
Those answers, of course, he will keep to himself. But he has had his twelve years, and its time for him to move on.
