Wulsin fundraiser not a total bust

Democrat Victoria Wulsin was in Washington yesterday, as we mentioned earlier. And she held two fundraisers – in addition to meetings with folks all over town, including Democratic Party head Howard Dean.

And, yes, the Enquirer’s Washington bureau of one did swing by the event at Tortilla Coast, a restaurant that may not be at the caliber of Cincinnati’s former four-star eaterie Maisonette – or Washington’s new hot spot for Mexican food, Rosa Mexicana – but it’s far from being a “dive bar.” Put it this way: It’s no Common Share, Dan's, Harry's... all bigger dives in DC. And dipping into Cincinnati's dive scene, it's no Head First Sports Cafe either. Plus, the food is pretty good.

That said, here’s what we saw:

Wulsin was chatting with Rep. Jan Schakowski, D-Ill., and a couple other people, including someone she identified as a high school friend, when we walked in. There were about three other people in the far end of the basement room munching on finger food. A table with a big bowl of chips and some salsa was at the other end. Another table held cold beer and margaritas.

After a few minutes, an excited Wulsin came over to introduce herself and we got a second to chat. That's when Schakowski, one of 11 House Democrats who hosted the event, said goodbye to Wulsin. “I can’t wait to be your colleague,” Wulsin exclaimed, shaking Schakowski’s hand.

Wulsin described how she didn’t get as much attention during the primary election, but now, everything’s changed.

“It’s so exciting. My poll numbers are good, the money is coming in, the tide is turning,” she said, adding that it’s a shame that her opponent, Republican Rep. Jean Schmidt, has so far successfully eluded debating her.

“I think she’ll be shamed into debating me,” Wulsin said. “I think people want to hear from her.”
Asked if she is getting the sense that the party is ready to back her, Wulsin said: “The buzz is just beginning here. As people get to know me, they realize that Im not just an anti-Schmidt candidate, I’m a credible candidate.”

Then this: “I really think this race is mine to lose!”

At about that time, the chief of staff for Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, walked in to tell Wulsin that the congressman was on his way. He arrived shortly thereafter.

Alright Malia, fine, it has good food. But you know I'm sure, that the specials in the bar, attract quite a bit of hill folk, especially in the summer when skinterns arrive, that prove for pretty "divish" fashion at the premiere cheap Mexican joint on the hill. I was sad Loreal Plaza wasn't mentioned, their margaritas are a lot better.

Also, you mentioned two names that didn't include Strickland, Brown, Clyburn, or....MURTHA. Did he blow off Vic? Dare I say, cut and run from her fundraiser?

Rulon's headline shows her reich-wing bias, reflecting the paper's slanted way
of covering progressive, Democratic candidates. Did she go to a journalism
degree mill, Bob Jones U, or where? Did Malia stay for the entire time? Might
she have missed anyone?

Sounds like Dr. Wulsin and a bowl of chips attended... that's certainly not a crowd.

Wulsin: "I really think this race is mine to lose!"

She should have thought of that before she went to work for Henry Heimlich!

Part II report on Wulsin's "malariotherapy" fundraising prospectus just went online at the Beacon.

I guess Mexicans don't appreciate the Democrat Pandering.

They should have held it at Alabama's Fish Market.

The article says: Not a total bust...Melia states she saw 3 people not including Rep. Tim Ryan, to me this is a bust....to fly to DC and only have 4 people at an event is not successful. Why doesn't Melia use factual headlines?

you know, i would seriously sell my soul to the DCCC for a bowl of Rosa Mexicana's guacamole. Shoot, that's some good stuff.

Oh yeah, T-Coast is crap. I used to work on the Hill, and served there nights and weekends. Loser candidates held fundraisers there because they couldn't afford anything nicer. Plus, the food was dirty and low quality. Come on Malia, you know it's a dive!

Vic, you have no chance. Turn on your AC and cool your temper down...

The Cincinnati Enquirer discovered that Dr. Vic Wulsin does not exist. Will the Wulsin campaign be found to be illegal. Vic's legal name is Wells not Wulsin. You have to run for office with your legal name. How soon will she be required to take down her illegal campaign signs. A check of the probate court records will tell if she legally changed her name to Wulsin or kept it as Wells. What is she hiding?

YOU CAN CALL ME VIC
If you're not sure what to call Dr. Victoria Wells Wulsin, you're not alone. The Democrat running to unseat Schmidt in the 2nd District has gone by several names.

Last year, she ran as "Victoria Wells Wulsin." No hyphen. In February, she announced at a Democracy for Cincinnati meeting that she's now referring to herself as simply "Victoria Wulsin."

"I've been told that in some parts of the district, the 'Wells' smacks of this uppity East Coast thing, so I decided to drop it," she explained at the time.

But, she said, her driver's license and medical license both bear the name "Victoria Wells."

Look her up in the Cincinnati phone book and you've got a choice, both attached to her Indian Hill address: "Wells, Victoria" or "Wulsin, Lawson and Victoria."

Hamilton County voter registration records, however, list her as "Victoria Wulsin."

"Four names is too many. This year, I wanted it to be simpler," she said, adding that she may just cut her name even further to "Vic" next time she runs.

It doesn't matter if she changed her registration, that makes it more fraudulent. She filed with the FEC under a fake name too. Vic is a fraud. Just because you want to change your name, doesn't mean you can.

It appears that Vic has commited election falsification by providing a false name to the Hamilton County Board of Elections. Had the board of elections checked her drivers license they would have discovered the falsification. In Ohio the law is very clear: "Whoever Commits Election Falsification is Guilty of a Felony of the Fifth Degree" Vic - your in big trouble. When you get married you don't have to take your husbands name. When you run for public office you have to use your "legal" name.

Will the real democratic candidate please stand up! No wonder no one knows who is running under the democratic ticket. How come the blogs did not run this as an article? Is the Enquirer a democratic newspaper?

No wonder nobody knows who she is. She keeps changing her name. The question is why is she lying to the voters? What is she hiding?

Jean must be getting nervous, as she has ordered her little people to trash talk about Doc. You know the Doctor who actually earned her degree.

Where have you found that she is a doctor. I have checked the OMA and the AMA and she is not listed at either medical license site. Her husband is but Vic is no where to be found.

I tried to check her medicial license and can't find any record of her. There is a Lawson Wulsin but no Victoria.

Get out of the gutter. Dr. Wulsin received her degree as Victoria Wells. She continues to practice under that name. This is common, accepted practice. In fact it is the norm across the country. Agree with her politics, or not, at least give her the respect she deserves. Getting into medical school is not easy now, and it was much more difficult for women back when she did it. She very well trained and a credit to her profession.
