Schmidt has left Cincinnati

After voting in Loveland early this morning and working the polls in Clermont County, Rep. Jean Schmidt has departed Cincinnati for Washington, D.C.

Schmidt's office said the congressman is expected to land in D.C. around 4 p.m. today.

Why the rush back to Washington?

Schmidt chief of staff Barry Bennett told the Enquirer last week that she needed to get to the U.S. Capitol for a series of votes scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tonight.

Are these votes really that important?

Actually, members of Congress take their votes very seriously. Those who miss votes have been accused of being "absent congressmen" and Schmidt has only missed one vote in her first 6 months on the job.

Tonight, the House plans to vote on 14 bills. But they are non-controversial bills that could pass on voice votes, meaning that recorded votes might not even be taken. These are the votes scheduled for tonight:

1) H.R. 5107 - Earl D. Hutto Post Office Building Designation Act
2) H.R. 4811 - John Paul Hammerschmidt Post Office Building Designation Act
3) H.R. 4674 - Governor John Anderson, Jr. Post Office Building Designation Act
4) H.R. 4995 - Ronald Bucca Post Office Designation Act
5) H.R. 4101 - Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy Post Office Building Designation Act
6) H.R. 3351 - Native American Technical Corrections Act of 2006
7) H.R. 2720 - Salt Cedar and Russian Olive Control Demonstration Act
8) H.R. 3929 - Dana Point Desalination Project Authorization Act
9) H.R. 3418 - Central Texas Water Recycling Act of 2005
10) H.R. 4943 - Prevention of Fraudulent Access to Phone Records Act
11) H.Res. 697 - Congratulating the people and Government of Italy, the Torino Olympic Organizing Committee, the International Olympic Committee, the United States Olympic Committee, the 2006 United States Olympic Team, and all international athletes upon the successful completion of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy
12) H.Con.Res. 392 - Recognizing the 58th anniversary of the independence of the State of Israel
13) H.Con.Res. 90 - Conveying the sympathy of Congress to the families of the young women murdered in the State of Chihuahua, Mexico, and encouraging increased United States involvement in bringing an end to these crimes
14) H.Res. 658 - Supporting the goals and ideals of World Water Day

Schmidt's GOP opponent in the 2nd Congressional District primary - Bob McEwen - sent out a press release criticizing her departure.

Excerpt from release: "The move comes as Schmidt’s campaign is imploding after she was caught lying on her resume and claiming false endorsements. Schmidt has also taken heat for spending tens of thousands of dollars hiring Liberal Democrat activist lawyer Stan Chesley to claim her challenger is not an Ohio resident. The Chesley claims were dismissed at both the state and federal levels."

McEwen: "I will never abandon the voters on this important day."

What a stupid, stupid statement from the folks at the McEwen campaign! After legally voting [unlike Bouncin' Bob], Jean Schmidt leaves for D.C. to do her job - and gets ripped by Bouncin' Bob's spin machine! Bouncin' Bob McEwen must think the voters of the 2nd district are complete morons. Your last-minute p.r. moves aren't going to save McEwen from another defeat to Jean Schmidt. Just take your beating and go home to Viriginia, Bob & Co. And take that little weasel Mike Harlow with you.

In casually surveying three polling places, worekrs and onlookers have reported to me that an overwhelming number of voters have shown up claiming, "I'm here to vote against Jean Schmidt."

We'll shall see, my friends, we shall see. Lawsuits generally don't impress Republicans.

Just a few thoughts:
Why has this blog become the house organ for the bob for congress?
Don't think a ton of schmidt but think even less of bob.
The constant negatives from the bm campaign are starting to make me think about voting for a Democrat for the first tme ever if he wins.
One question in response to Bob's indignation:
Did you bounce checks atthe House Bank?
If yes go back and be a lobbyist, you have the right ethics for it, if no come straight out and say it. Don't tell me you were exonerated of wrong doing, did you bounce checks???

Constant negatives from the McEwen camp?? I don't get this. He and his people have been pointing out the facts. Jean has raised taxes so many times it is a joke. Jean lied on her Resume and not just this year but she has been lying about having 2 degrees for many, many years, That also means she lied about teaching for 4 years, She lied about have endorsements she did not have. McEwen has pointed those out. Quit saying it is negative when you are saying things about your Canidate that are true. He has made no claim about Schmidt that is not true, The OEC agrees and said that she was lying and needs to stop. Now Jean on the other hand filed lawsuits and complaints against Bob that were thrown out and thne she still claims them as being true. She has ads that say one thing and the courts and the OEC have said another. She has attacked Bob's wife Liz. I have never heard the name Peter( the husband of Jean) ever used. Negative is saying things in ads that are total lies and are mis-leading. By the way there is transcrips of Jean in 1992 saying that Bob did nothing wrong in the House Bank Scandal. She said he had done NOTHING WRONG. I love how after someone is told that they are free and clear and they are told they did nothing wrong that you still bring it up. I am sure that is the way you would want to be treated if you were ever investigated for something and then cleared of it. Talk about being negative.

Matt you have lost it. Read the article those votes tonight in congress are about Post offices, and congratulating Italy for a nice Olympics. It will be a voice vote. Alot of members will be where their primary votes are happening. It is a stunt for her to say she needs to be there. Just trying to look important so she can say yes to building a Post office somewhere. It is a big stunt, but at least it is not a stunt like using a Democratic Lawyer to File a bogus lawsuit. At least when she is in DC she won't be able to lie to us for a few hours.

But it is obviuos that there is something strange going on with the ballots and the vote Clermont County. They can't even run one election day with out something being screwed up. Or are they trying to get the fix in??

Hey Enquirer if you had any sense or balls you would have one of your so called investigative reporters in Clermont demanding to see what is going on and get down to the bottom of what is happening. Oh sorry that might mean you would have to get out and work and actually investigate some real screw ups and maybe some real fraud. We will probably get some real indepth stuff like what color hair bun Jean was wearing today.

Enjoy your last few moments of hate, Bouncin' Bob supporters. Jean Schmidt is well on the way to winning tonight.
