The frantic 48

We'll be doing a lot of blogging on the last 48 hours of the primary election.

On Election Night, the political team will be live blogging from the various parties - from Columbus to Clermont.

Here's a press release from the Bob McEwen campaign about Rep. Jean Schmidt's new ads:

McEwen: Schmidt Knows Ads Are False

Anderson Township-- Less than 24 hours after being reprimanded by the Ohio Elections Commission for a "reckless disregard for the truth," Jean Schmidt repeated those same falsehoods in a massive media blitz. The ads began airing moments after Schmidt vowed on Newsmakers not to make such false claims. Just days after pledging to the Cincinnati Enquirer editorial board not to mention her opponent by name, she violated that pledge took advantage of the weekend to make claims she knows are untrue.

Said McEwen spokesman Michael Harlow, "previously, the seven counties of Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District were represented with distinction by Rob Portman. We were warned by her previous opponents that she would get nastier and more desperate as the race entered its final days. After being found by the Ohio Elections Commission to have a ‘reckless disregard for the truth,’ she airs negative attack ads with claims she knows to be false."

Said McEwen spokesman Michael Harlow, "the bogus, desperate charge concerning lifelong Ohio residents Bob and Liz McEwen is desperate as it is vicious. The issue of Bob McEwen’s voting residence has been cleared up at both the state and federal level, after Jean Schmidt hired Democrat activist Stan Chesley to sue Bob and Liz personally. The bogus charge was quietly dropped on Wednesday. She knows these ads are false and the McEwen campaign is looking into legal action. Jean Schmidt further seeks to distract attention from her voting record in support of the massive new taxes and fee increases which caused Ohio to carry the third-heaviest state and local tax burden among the 50 states."

I hope there are laws against the ad Jean Schmidt is running against McEwen, and I'm glad he is looking into legal action. There is nothing in her ad that shows any basis or referencing for the false claims she is making.

McEwen has a letter of exoneration concerning the so-called "bank scandal," which was a Democrat ploy, the likes of which Jean Schmidt is now trying to pull. McEwen has been cleared of anywrong doing concerning his right to vote and run for office here. The claim about his work is an egregious, libelous claim. To presume that Bob supports persecuting Christians because he did work in, or for Eritrea is absurd. "Schmidt is a Congresswomen for a country that sanctions killing innocent babies, while she claims to love the unborn," would be equivalent to the claim she makes in this ad. I imagine all the people for P&G and other companies who send people to countries around the world, including China, that also persecute Christians would take offense at this reference.

TV stations need to pull this ad. There are plenty of nasty ads being aired, but there ought to be at least some evidence or references to substaniate the claims being made before they are aired.

Is it true that Bob McEwen eats cats?

Collin

Dr. Wilkes is listed by both canidates. He is prolife and has said that he is happy with the stances of each canidate. Bob was thanking him for his support now and over the years. Dr. Wilkes has been a true republican who has not let politics get in the way of his beliefs and who he supports. He has supported Bob in the past and has said he is for both canidates now. Don't try and twist this to something that it is not. Also yes Munoz is right behind McEwen and is fully supporting him. If you talk to him you find that he is a big fan an believer of Bob and what he stands for.
It is a nice ad with no lies in it. Jean's new ad is disgraceful. The OEC said Bob's residency is not an issue( it took them 10 minutes to say that it was not even worth a hearing by the full board) and the lawsuit filled by a democratic lawyer went no where and was out of the courts in a matter of hours. IF Jean really had something she would have filed with the Hamilton County Board of Elections. So the courts and OEC say residency not an issue. So what does Jean do?? She has a ad that says Bob voted illegally. That is a lie and she knows it and the courts have said so. She makes a claim that is just a plain lie, but she does that alot. Then she brings up Bob writing bad checks. Once again Bob was investigated and completely exonerated. Jean is even in the public record saying that Bob did nothing wrong. Then she puts it in her ad. Yet another lie. That is like putting an ad out saying that Person A is a Bank Robber. When Person A was investigated and not even charged with a crime. That is just plain sad.
Jean put this ad on a couple of hours after taping "newsmakers" where she said she is not going to do any negative ads. ANother lie!! LIES AND MORE LIES.

At least Bob's ad tells the truth about Jean's lies. Some people say it is negative but everything in the ad is 100% true and the Ohio Elections Commmission agrees.
Once again no class and lies from Jean.

The Bank Scandal was actually exposed by the Gang of Seven, led by Majority Leader John Boehner, and I believe Mr. McEwen's "Letter of Exoneration" says something to the extent of, while we aren't pursuing criminal action at this time, your case will remain open.

Doesn't really sound to exonerating to me.

I can't believe that Congressional Candidate, Lizzzz McEwen (or so it seems), seriously told my neighbor that they "don't need her vote" this morning when she politely told her they're supporting Jean. Smart move Lizzz. Importantly, I'd like to know how Lizzzzz and Bob feel about the widening of Little River Turnpike (near their palatial estate in Fairfax Station)?

We are now less than one day away from being able to express our "appreciation" for what Mrs. Schmidt has been inflicting on the 2nd District. From the ridicule of the English speaking world, after her classless attack on Congressman Murtha, to her lies about a true Congressional hero of the Reagan years, to her allying herself with the biggest Clinton booster in Southern Ohio, to file spurious law suits, to her refusal to give straight answers on issues from taxes to immigration, or why she would send women into combat, her behavior has been an absolute disgrace.

Tomorrow when we vote for Bob McEwen, a lifelong champion of the Conservative values of Southern Ohioans, we will do so with pride. We will also feel a sense of relief, that we are cleaning up the image, that Mrs. Schmidt has tarnished.

Look for in tomorrow's election many democrats switching to the Republican primary to vote for McEwen. As of right now at least 100 votes are switching. Stay tune in for the upset.

Actually I have heard of Dems changing their party to vote for Kraus. Someone that hasn't lied and has been a resident of Ohio all her life. She may not have experience but at least she is one of us. She is not wealthy and is not trying to be something she is not.

the post at 2:15 proves it. these people dont support mcewen. theyre just anti-jean. you people are so pathetic. it's just sad really. youre hatred of jean, wherever it comes from (i know..its hard to get beat by a girl), clouds your logic, and your pure hatred for her prevails. you ladies should be ashamed of yourselves, but hopefully tomorrow, we can put you out of your misery so that we can really focus on the issues. i'm not exactly sure why democrats would vote for mcewen. would that be because they realize he fits in with their "culture of corruption" catch phrase which would make him beatable in the general election? then again, ive never been one to understand democrats. why try now?

wade walker--

Read the letter on bobmcewenforcongress.com.

The letter absolutely states that he has done nothing wrong and that no further investigation is warranted.

To anonymous, and all who think as he/she does:

No one hates Mrs. Schmidt. We are, however, dismayed that she would take a Congressional campaign into the gutter by trying to smear a respected and distinguished former Congressman, who was very, very highly regarded during the happier days of the Reagan Presidency.

We support Bob McEwen, because he is a true statesman; a dedicated Ohio Conservative, with a proven track record in Washington. That he is now prepared to return to Washington to fight for the values that Conservative Southern Ohioans believe in is a cause for celebration, not venom and insult.

Note, also, that while Bob McEwen has responded to the lies that have been hurled against him, he has never attacked Mrs. Schmidt's family. Why have the Schmidt people been making snide comments about Mrs. McEwen, who is a true lady? If that is not beneath contempt, what would be? Nor has Bob seen fit to recruit Bill Clinton's biggest booster in Southern Ohio, to work for his campaign.

Those who are merely lurking on these threads--those still uncommitted--would do well to contemplate these things, this evening.

I hear the polls numbers are close and Rep. Schmidt is going to campaign to the last minute and taking a private jet to D.C. Either way a true conservative is going to win tomorrow and we all will rally around whoever wins. Best of luck to both campaigns.

And a big ditto to

If Schmidt wins, I'll have a VERY hard time rallying around her. She has burned her bridge with me -- way too much lying and conniving to ever get my support or confidnece back.

Bouncin' Bob's spokesmouth Mike Harlow is a weasel. Bob, please take Harlow back to Virginia with you after you lose today's election to Jean Schmidt.
