Republicans launch new Web site

In honor of Tax Day (that's Monday, April 17, the day your tax returns are due to the IRS), the National Republican Campaign Committee has launched a new Web site devoted to attacking Democrats in key Senate races over tax issues - www.DonkeysWantYourMoney.com

Their main target? Why it's U.S. Rep. Sherrod Brown of northern Ohio, who is the Democrat likely to challenge Republican Sen. Mike DeWine this fall, of course.

If you click on Ohio, you can read all about Brown's stance on various tax issues.

To get both sides, however, you also should visit Brown's campaign Web site to read about the issues he's working on, such as trying to get Congress to help lower the cost of prescription drugs to seniros. While on Brown's site, you can also view his new TV ad, which features his wife, Connie Schultz, a columnist for the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

You know everyone would like to pay lower taxes; that is a master of the obvious statement. But think of your own finances - if you knew you would have to spend more money for your kids or home or anything would you do anything that results in reducing your revenue stream? Not many people would answer yes. However, with all the increased spending for medicare prescription program, the Iraq occupation/debacle, natural disasters, ect ect why would we want to lower taxes as much as W has done? And then there is always the arguement of whom these tax cuts benefit the most. And does anybody ever wonder what making these cuts permanent means? Couldn't future Congresses repeal a so called permanent tax cut if conditions in the future warrant that is the best course of action (we keep up with our preemptive strike policy to stamp out POSSIBLE threats to our security). And some may think I am full of BS but this is a fact: when Bush took over the nations total debt was $6 trillion, Congress just had to increase that debt limit to $9 trillion which is a 50% increase in 5+ years! Republican campaign strategy - play to the dumb public (majority of Americans)the fear factor of the terrible 9/11 attacks and to put more money in your pocket while risking the future. Throw in the social conservative BS and we all get stuck with this kind of administration that is floundering with a 60% disapproval rating. God help all of us!!!

i don't think that's an ad. just a message. i don't think he'll be advertising as a "progressive" and i don't think he'll run an ad without "approving this message"

They should also add a section for all the Republicans who want your money. Between Bob Taft, Jean Schmidt, Betty Montgomery, Jennette Bradley, John Dowlin, Jon Husted, Bill Seitz, Patty Clancy, George Voinovich, and Bob Bedinghaus, it could take a lot of time to review all the Republican tax hikers. Tax hikes are no better coming from Republicans than they are coming from Democrats.

Jeff,

You’re wrong about John Dowlin. He never voted to hike taxes. Unfortunately, you've chosen to believe lies perpetuated by Heimlich and Pat DeWine in their successful scheme to replace a good man with a scoundrel because Dowlin refused to be intimidated by Chris Finney (the Heimlich and DeWine master puppeteer).

Dowlin firmly believed that voters should be given the opportunity to decide for themselves whether or not to support quality of life issues. He argued that taking levies to the ballot box is more democratic than allowing two out of three commissioners dictate to the citizens what those two commissioners think is best for the populace.

Finney would rather play the role of dictator and silence the voice of the voters, denying them the right to support or oppose funding for zoos, parks, children services, MRDD, Mental Health, etc.

By contrast, John Dowlin believes in democracy. He backed it up by giving the voters the final authority to decide the fate of levies that the majority obviously deemed worthy of their support.

Finney hates the concept of democracy because as a founding member of Citizens Against Virtually Everything (CAVE), allowing voters to decide their own fate most often places CAVE in the minority.

Since CAVE haven't been successful at defeating every levy on the ballot, they've adopted a new strategy. They now create their political puppets to run for office so they can strip away the right of voters to support or oppose tax levies.

Think about it, as a voter, would you rather have the choice to vote taxes up or down, or leave it up to just two Commissioners to decide? (And if you break it down further, when two commissioners are on opposite sides, which is often the case with Portune and Heimlich, then the third commissioner is the deciding vote -- in essence giving DeWine a defacto dictatorship).

As for me, I'll place my trust in the voters over any dictatorship, regardless of their political leanings.

Dowlin earned a reputation for his honesty and integrity, and was revered by his political allies and foes alike because when he spoke, you know it came from his heart -- with no strings attached.

Heimlich, DeWine, and by extension Finney, simply don't compare. Lies, deceit, distortions of the truth are their calling cards because they truly believe the end justifies the means (Finney has has said so on numerous occasions). And their means are to lie about anyone who doesn't agree with the CAVE mantra: “eliminate taxes at all costs, even if it means denying the voters the right to decide quality of life issues.” And sadly, they’re actually proud of that, as I’m sure other dictators would be also.
